Ack ANTS! They are all over my coconut oil. Luckily the oil was solid and a good rinse got rid of all the ants. Just odd that they went straight for the oil and don't attack anything else.

I made a double batch of cookies last night and I always use a few tablespoons of coconut oil in the ABV extract. I like to use all sorts of veggie oils as long as they are not hydrogenated. I am always scared to use straight coconut as it is so powerful.
pure fat is the most energy dense foodstuff around, and ants are all about efficiency

Depending on the price of coconuts near you (and if you can be bothered), it might be worth just making your own. Youtube has some instructional videos and it's really easy to do.

We need healthy fats, and organic virgin coconut oil is part of a healthy diet.

I for one LOVE LOVE LOVE coconut oil. I use it for so many things, like as the only skin moisturizer i will use, its good for open wounds of all sorts, its great for making your own toothpaste(mine consists of organic virgin coconut oil, premium aluminum free baking soda from the brand Bobs Red Mill, and himalayan pink salt. this works amazing as a toothpaste), and SO many other things. The health benefits are astounding as well!

Plus, and of course I made some canna coconut oil :) which I sometimes call my "green oil"
Its amazing stuff, not only is it great to eat(and doesnt upset my stomach like butter does), but it can be easily applied topically for pains!

Heres a little article with 160 different uses for coconut oil! http://www.riseearth.com/2012/06/160-uses-for-coconut-oil.html#.T_10G5lS-qY.facebook

You're cool :)

I make my own deodorant with coconut oil and it is by far the best deodorant I've ever used. 5 tablespoons organic coconut oil, 1/4 cup cornstarch, a bit less than 1/4 cup baking soda and add about 15 drops of your favorite essential oil, mix it all together and that's it.

the BEST, Jerry! the BEST!

Just found out my go-to deodorant is the kind that uses aluminum particles to plug the sweat pores...
:tinfoil:

Gonna look into homemade now. Or maybe just aluminum-free Tom's brand.

Actually, something wrong with Toms. It was bought by Colgate Polmolive and the formula for everything has changed. A friedn of mine used a Toms fluoride free toothpaste recently after all the products change and she got blisters all over her mouth. My mother had a lot of allergic reactions to other Colgate-Polmolive products, and I have as well. Bad company, dont give them your money. Best just make your own things like this when its too hard tofind a packaged one that is good and pure and safe.

Thanks Polmol, you are pretty cool yourself.

And I second Mountainroseherbs.com! Great site, all sorts of good stuff including clays and essential oils.

You can usually find a very good coconut oil in a local health food store(or even a Whole Foods Market). The best I have found were Dr Bronners brand(the whole kernel with the brown label, not the white kernel with the white label) and Artisana brand makes great raw organic virgin coconut oil and organic raw coconut butter that is very good, best coconut butter IMO :)
And just be sure the oil you get is organic, virgin, unrefined coconut oil.

is there any preparation needed? As in, should the heat up the coconut oil with the other stuff before cooking the final recipe?

Anyone got any tips on how to do the cold fusion of herb w coconut oil?

Should it be kept a liquid through the whole process or is it fine if it solidifies?

Instinct is telling me that liquid state is best...

I dont know much about the cold infusion process, but I think it would be best to keep it fairly warm(over 90 degrees) so that it remains liquid, and you can agitate it as you feel is necessary.

can I have your recipe? :)

oh and do you mean to say that there's aluminum in some brands of baking soda?? I didn't know that...

Sure thing! Its super simple. I usually just eye out the measurements, I just throw the 3 items together and its always great.
Yes, Arm&Hammer baking soda is tainted with Aluminum. Also when I tried to use it in this toothpaste recipe it stung my mouth, but the higher quality, aluminum free baking soda from Bobs Red Mill didnt do that though.

About a pinch of salt(about a dime sized amount of ground salt in your palm), a tablespoon of baking soda, and a tablespoon of coconut oil and just stir it up in a small condiment dish or bowl. oh and since the oil will melt to complete liquid when its in your mouth, take some more on the brush for each set of teeth(top+bottom). Enjoy :)

Lets put aluminum aside, even, and I can tell you for fact that the Bobs Red Mill brand baking soda is MUCH much higher quality then A&H

Wanted to share my experience with using coconut oil to make some AVB brownies.

I came in using about 4g of AVB and grinded it down finely. I submerged that in 1 cup of liquid coconut oil (virgin and organic). I chose to try the cold infusion method since no one minded actually eating the AVB in the brownies.

Unfortunately, the oil managed to keep solidifying in my apt due to the AC unit simulating Alaskan climate conditions. I tried countering this by placing the container with the infusion in warm water for hours at a time.

After 3 days of infusion, the oil took a brown, tinted color and I figured it was near usage at this point. Now, the infusion wasn't a sludge since I used more oil than AVB. Maybe that was a fault? Either way I continued on and made the brownies using only half the brownie mix.

1/2 brownie mix package
1 cup infused oil
1/2 cup soy lecithin
1 egg
1/4 cup water

The brownies came out moist and tasted amazing.

Sadly, after eating about 1/3 of the batch, I only ended up with a slight light headed feeling and no real high.

My partner got high, but not couch locked. Hers was more of a buzz which I can probably account for because she's smaller than me.

Others there only had one brownie and they claimed to have gotten high, but I'm thinking the placebo effect kicked in.

Oh well! I think I'm combining cold
Infusion w/ maybe some low heating on a skillet next time around. I should also probably collect more AVB next time, as well.

4grams of ABV is about one big dose or two moderate sized doses, use A LOT more next time.

And why use organic virgin coconut oil when you are just adding GMO soy??? This is dumb

GMO free soy lecithin is widely available, how do you know that's not what they used?

cause when you specify one thing organic and not the other, its pretty damn obvious. anyway I believe personally that all the soy is contaminated and should be avoided. just my :2cents:

You "believe" that other foods labelled as organic, such as coconut oil, are correctly labeled, but for some reason "all the soy is contaminated"?

Guess you can't argue with beliefs...

Yeah I figured it was too little.

I did use organic soy. Not sure what you got out of saying it was dumb when you had no idea if I did or not. Making assumptions and standing by them like it is fact is pretty dumb too. ;)
