Those of you who have been using the pax and have used other vapes like the MFLB in the past, are you finding the amount of herb you use has increased using the pax ? I keep reading its a great vaporizer and I think Im keen to get one but I've noticed a couple of people say you use more.

you can pack a trench worth in the Pax, or you can pack double that amount :)

I've had the Pax for a few weeks at this point (bought it on release date) and there are a couple things I think are worth mentioning.

1. The Pax doesn't work as well when lightly packed (.1 grams), it seems the key to this device's efficiency is to increase the contact surface area to the oven walls, the only way I know how to achieve this so far is to pack the hell out of the oven, I'm talking about .5 to .8 grams. The upshot is that I can have two separate sesh's with two heads and get us both very medicated. The downsides are that it makes the oven impossible to clean out without some kind of poking/scraping tool as well as making the draws much harder. The downsides are very minor when compared to this unit's overall performance. Just to reiterate, you will not be very satisfied with this unit if all you plan to pack it with is .1 grams. Better to go with a MFLB if you plan on using smaller amounts like .1 grams

2. Second, the unit sometimes "fizzles" when on for about 5 minutes on any heat setting. I am hoping that this is just caked up resin on the SS tube and that it is simply just "boiling" off from the heating element. The fizzling does not effect taste. I am hoping someone can share their experiences with this if they have come across the same thing. I suspect it just means the unit needs to be cleaned (I admit I'm a bit lazy and haven't cleaned it in over two weeks).

Overall extremely pleased with this unit. I bought a second one so that I could use this unit everywhere including home. I haven't used any other vapes in my arsenal since I picked up this unit. that includes the plenty, volcano, davinci, omicron, persei. The main reason for this is because of how much easier it is to setup and vape with the pax compared to the other units mentioned. For convenience, the pax can't be beat in my book. Only thing that could be improved on this is to figure out a way to more evenly vape in the oven, make the battery last longer and hold more herb in the oven and add the option to put in stainless steel inserts for smaller loads.

Only one day in of use, been cleaned out a couples of times already (dry pipe cleaners while hot) and my mouthpiece is starting to pop up slow, so I am guessing next step will be to soak my mouthpiece in iso for a bit?? Seems too soon for this to be happening. I guess I can contact CS and ask for a new mouthpiece.

I know stock has not returned to Ploom just yet, so the next batch may be better, hoping for the rest of the people looking to buy one anyway. I don't have any problem getting the Chat and finding out if this is a mouthpiece issue. I have seen a few random light changes while it should be "green" when hitting it. Saw it do a rainbow flash a couple of times, and it's gone into telling me what heat level i am at when the mouthpiece is still in, but doesn't stay that way for long.

jambandphan03,
Just a quick tip to keep your Pax running without problems. After a heavy sesh with a friend or 2 or after a few single sessions I take a q tip with the full swab intact and run it through the mouthpiece portion, its a tight fit but does an awesome job. Then I remove most of the swab from the other end and from the mouthpiece side I run it down the stem into the oven. I did this the first time I felt the mouthpiece sticking and problem resolved! No ISO needed.

I also found that the smaller cocktail stir straws fit almost perfectly into the stem piece. With the oven still warm I run the straw down the stem piece and when its pulled it out you will find the resin has been scraped from the stem walls and has been drawn up into the straw. There was enough resin to get a few nice nail hits from, you just have to make sure the oven is warm not hot or you will melt the straw!

VaporsVaporizer

On the Stoop
I'm wondering how long you can leave it on the charger? It takes about an hour to charge, but is it safe to just leave it there?

Mine stays on whenever it's not in use but having one slight problem where any time it's green, I take it off the charger put it back on, or just accidental not grab it all the way and falls back on the charger either way it will flash yellow at me even after just being green. Don't really know if I want a replacement..

Even if you don't want a replacement it is worth a phone call to find out what is causing it and if it another bug they can have the opportunity to work it out in there next production. :)

That's strange, a friend of mine JUST ordered an Onyx from vaporstore, and got his order cancelled by vaporstore, and they suggested he go to vapeworld to purchase... wonder what is going on. He ended up going to the Ploom site... don't forget PlanetVape also carries the Pax, they are in Canada, but have super fast shipping, and excellent customer service as well. I have purchased many things from them in the past few months. They are currently out of stock as well, but are looking into designing some kind of gong adapter for the pax. I hope they can figure something out.

I charge every night, just like a cellphone. Usually, the Pax lasts me all day long! (Many bowls.)

it makes the oven impossible to clean out without some kind of poking/scraping tool as well as making the draws much harder... Second, the unit sometimes "fizzles" when on for about 5 minutes on any heat setting.

The proper packing force for the Pax is becoming somewhat of an art for me. If you pack a little bit harder each time, and then pack a little less hard when you get a bowl that won't tap out, you can find that sweet spot between vapor density and draw restriction.

The fiz is water (condensation in the tube falling down and) boiling! Don't you feel the vapor get hot? I think you already found you can avoid this by not leaving a fresh bowl too long without drawing. Properly dried herb will also really shine in the Pax. (no fiz and thick vapor)

Does anyone have any experience with putting a very small amount, say .1 in the pax?

0.1g is a bit small (just a thin layer on the bottom of the oven) so you'll get 1-2 tasty draws and 1-3 thin draws. I think you'll find you like packing 0.2-0.4g and turning it on & off and hitting as necessary, the vapor is fuller and more flavorful. you could try three sesh's with 0.25g maybe

PlanetVape also carries the Pax... are looking into designing some kind of gong adapter for the pax. I hope they can figure something out.

I hope it utilizes the metal tube from a spare mouthpiece... I've tried many things on the plastic shaped mouthpiece and they are all a bit awkward...

just got back from the post office and sent my second pax back for replacement. Ploom said i may have voided the warranty trying to push out the mouthpiece out from the oven side and breaking it but they told me they will have a look at it and maybe replace it even if i did fuck it up to bad so i am hoping for good news hopefully the third time is a charm

Been here since 2009
I think they'll be fine with fixing this. New products don't need bad voices out there and they know we're all posting our thoughts.

Hey guys, so I already pre-ordered my PAX from VW, but now im getting second thoughts. Not because of the small problem I have heard of, I'm pretty sure reading this whole thread has let me know how to handle it, but that I might be leaning towards the solo now. If I could I would like to have both but it looks like I can only have one.

I had a few questions for those who have both ( and I don't want to start a solo vs. PAX battle like the MFLB one earlier in the thread). Which one (solo/PAX) do you use at home? Is the solo a "better" desk top unit? Also, if my main focus was to conserve while at home, but also to not have to worry about packing many bowls while out, is there one that can do both or should i just give in and get both?:ko:

I just found that some of my stretchy food grade, high temp SOFT silicone tubing stretches around the end of the mouthpiece, and fits perfectly in a 14mm fem joint. It was just a bit of a pain getting it to stretch on there, I was being careful not to put pressure on the SS tube, didn't want to bend or warp it. Once it was on, it seems to cling, and is staying in place. I'm using it in my 14to18 expander. I don't remember the exact size of the tubing, but it's most likely 1/2" ID SOFT bought from: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/116/121/=j5w211
I found putting the tube on there gives much better connection to my piece than the black cap I was using, it's more hands free, and it lets me be a bit more conservative.
I can warm up the Pax, get a couple of rips, push the mouth piece back in to turn it off, and continue to pull vapor from it, also cooling the oven faster as I draw. Less waste. To charge, I am pulling out the mouth piece completely, then setting it on to charge. Getting orange/green charging light so I am guessing all is well.. Eventually I plan to have more than one mouthpiece, so I can switch them out. They do sell the tubing in black, blue, clear/white... oh, it also doubles as a mouth piece extender for dry use. It will do for now...

Ok I lied, cleaning the mouthpiece is the only time I like to use iso on the Pax. Drop it in a ziploc, add a little iso, shake and swirl for 30s or so, empty, rinse with water and clean with a paper towel, perfect mouthpiece in under a minute.

Now, I think I might have an interesting project/experiment for the mechanically inclined. Since I did my post on how the mouthpiece catch worked, I've been thinking about how to improve it to avoid sticking, and today I did my first try:
5tIW5.jpg

Can't see it?
oRTjS.jpg

Well, I realized we might not be able to do anything about the ring getting rough or sticky, but we can do something about increasing the grab on the catch that pulls the ring down. So I used a needle file: https://www.google.com/search?q=Needle Files&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS492US492&sugexp=chrome,mod=7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
needle_files1.gif

The half-round one specifically, and I filed the notch to look more like the casing on a bullet. The flat side of the file is smooth so keep it at a / kind of angle and use the edge of the file to grind the left ridge only!
28AJR.jpg

This way the little metal hook inside the body has more of an edge to catch onto and can pull down with more force on the little ring which should reduce sticking and give you a better chance if it does get stuck. I cleaned my mouthpiece right after I did this so it will be a while before I can say for sure, but it does feel and sound like a more solid mechanism though. I do have one of the original serial number mouthpieces and it has got sticky in the past so it should be a good test.

Last but not least, if you unexpectedly find yourself in SF (god help you) don't get frustrated; just make your way over to 1256 Mission St. where you'll find SF Patient and Resource center. They have better deals than east bay dispensaries right now with Harborside and Elemental keeping all their strains in the $50-60 an eighth range... and they are have surprisingly cheap pre-rolls, with a buy 5 & get the 6th free deal. Check out this discount on a top shelf strain:
Z6kWP.jpg

LkO0d.jpg

Their personalized rolling paper tempts me to combust... must resist because it's perfectly ground for the Pax!
WL4KI.jpg

So five $7 joints plus a free sixth one (they came to about 0.6g each) gives 3.6g of top shelf 20% for $35, not too bad imo... I also picked up some 17% sour flower shake (with decent little buds) for $30 a quarter! Smells kinda like shake but it has a deep purpley hint that tastes spectacular in the Pax :spliff:
I think it must be a perfect cure or something... thick vape and beautiful abv

So ploom's going to send me a new mouth piece in about a week or so, and I'll have something to play around with and mod. That chat for customer service/tech support is great!
