Easy ABV Coconut Oil Recipe(Crockpot)

Coconut oil has many health benefits and is one of the best oils to cook with. I also find its one of the easiest and most effective to infuse with cannabis.

Materials:

Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil(Obtained at health food stores)
Crockpot(Could substitute for double broiler on stove but crock pot is safer)
ABV/Fresh(You can use any amount, the ratio should be "just enough coconut oil to cover the herb completely")
Strainer/Cheescloth

Method:

1. Coconut oil solidifies below 76F, so if its solid start by melting a small amount in your crockpot. Add finely ground or powdered herb. Then add just enough more coconut oil to cover the herb.

2. Cook on low for 6-12 hours. The longer the more you extract. Just dont let it start boiling obviously, keep temps low or medium.

3. Let cool a little but strain with a cheescloth or strainer while its still in liquid form.

4. Let harden and you have strong cannabis infused coconut oil. Keep in Mason Jar. Doesn't need to be refrigerated. It should be the same texture as before but just green instead of white.

Can be used for stirfrys, eggs, baking, brownies, in coffee, in place of any oil basically. I like to fry rice and vegetables with it but I would normally blend in a smoothie or just eat a spoonful plain, it doesnt even taste that bad. If you water cure the ABV before it wont affect the taste and it will taste just like cocnut oil.

I would also recommend to anyone who is planning to always cook with your ABV, just get a crockpot. You can get one under $20 even. Its good because you can leave it on overnight and not worry about gas and flame. Also the low setting is good for most infusons like this. :peace:

Oh dude I have been looking to make up some canna-coconut oil for a while now, I frequently use it for cooking and this would be my first time infusing it. Really like your recipe here, very similar to when I make cannabutter. Definitely going to get this made now!

@BigDankNug. Grind it to a powder! But a normal grind will work.

@Boulderado. Water curing would be soaking the ABV in water for 7 days, changing daily. That would suck out all the bad flavor and taste, leaving just the goodies. There is a thread here about it but you can find some guides by just googling the term.

hey thanks. might have to try that next time, though it seems like too much work for too little benefit. found the guide if anyone's interested: http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=3596

Is there a reason you must use "Extra Virgin" Cocnut oil? Is it a must or can I use the cheaper "refined" type?

Just thought I'd post that I used the regular, cheaper coconut oil and it seemed to to out fine. Yep, good stuff.

Refined coconut oil, just like refined olive oil, has a much higher smoke point and much less of the positive health benefits.

But they both have the same % saturated fat that makes it so effective for cannabis.

Finally! After searching and searching. I finally found what I believe is the easiest way to reuse ABV. Thank you. I have commented on other ABV threads on FC but never have I ever seen something this easy. And EASY is the most important thing to me regarding using ABV. Someone should sticky this thing so new bies do not spend the time I did looking and looking, or sticky this till someone find a diff more easy way.

Interesting. I have 80 grams of avb that is still pretty potent and not very dark... This sounds like a good way to use it before it starts degrading. I think my crockpot might be too big to do this though.

I don't put the oil in the actual crock pot. I put it in a mason jar with the ABV... then place the mason jar in crock pot or saucepan of water. You can put a dishcloth/washcloth under the jar also. Coconut oil is great since you can do so many things with it (topical, cooking, baking, capsules, etc).

You stated that you, did something different, but you did not state any reasons why.

I was just wondering, if you would be kind enough to tell us why going through the extra work of using a mason jar and a washcloth is, so that we may all learn.

Thank you for anything extra you can teach us. And for sharing your wisdom, you did not mention any use of a cheesecloth, I was wondering if you consumed it when your done without any straining and consumed the plant and not just the resin? And if so, I was hoping could you teach us why that is better then straining?

And not criticizing you. I only want learn.

lol.. No offense taken. There are a gazillion ways to do things and there is no one answer, just like with most cooking - a ton of diff techniques/recipes for similar dishes.

I use the mason jar as I'm generally working with smaller amounts (1-2 oz of ABV). Crock pots range in size but generally in the several quarts and up range (mine is 8 quarts). The jar keeps what I'm cooking contained to a smaller area which is all that is needed for these smaller amounts... it also makes for less loss as it's easier to empty a small jar than it is to empty the large surface area of my crock. Easier clean up as well.

For straining... I've mentioned many times I don't like to use cheesecloth as it eats some of the product. I have used in the past but have completely switched to strainers that aren't absorbent so....less loss of product. I use 2 very fine stainless mesh strainers for larger amounts and for smaller batches I use a nylon tea strainer basket. Both work very well and don't absorb any of the liquid.

These are the types of strainers I prefer:

Again....there is no right answer, this is just my personal preference. I think you experiment until you find methods that you prefer :D

I'm going to give this recipe a try. I'm water-curing (just to see) about 4.5 onces of ABV. I'm on my second day. It's not as gag-inducing smell as the first dunk. Since I've never done this before, all I can say is , wow, probably smaller amounts are easier to work with.

Do I need to dry the water-cured ABV before the coco-dunk time or will the water steam out of final product?

How long will I keep this up until I just say, "Fuck it!" and pour it all down the drain? By the look of my kitchen...
...not long.

lol.... well Macbill.. I guess that depends on your patience. I don't water cure but I do see why some do.

If you keep lid off I would guesstimate that much of the water may evaporate out but can't guarantee it. If it was me I would probably dry the abv in the oven on the keep warm setting with the door propped open with a towel rolled up/wrapped in foil to allow steam to escape (same method I use to dry herbs/peppers/etc from the garden).

I too find smaller amounts are much easier to work with. Though I have OODLES of ABV I usually do about 1-2 ounces at a time for ease of straining, etc.

I use a jar in water as it is way easier to make sure that it never gets too hot (212F tops), and with a lid on the jar, it keeps the "goodies" inside (reduced smell).

The oil does not need to be "cooked" you see, only warm enough to easily absorb the cannabis elements. This is nearly identical to making "herb infused oil" - like garlic, peppers, truffles - for culinary purposes. Like a bottle of olive oil with a rosemary sprig in it (look at the grocery store shelf for this), we're infusing, steeping, alchemy.

I can see no real reason why one couldn't just toss a nug into a bottle of oil, and have it in the fridge, like the herb olive oil. Except coconut oil works best, and it's HARD when it's COLD. :)

Anyway, check sig. There are multiple threads on how to make ABV stuff on FC, including my recipe.

It's the third day of my experiment: ultimately I want to make the ABV/coco oil, but I'm water-curing the ABV. I have my 4.5 oz of ABV in a 12 quart soup kettle, and I have changed out the water 4 or 5 times over these last days. I have an old window screen around and I'm thinking after 4 or so more days of curing, I'll squeeze the water out and spread the material out on the screen and leave it in a bathroom tub in the spare b/room until dry. Vamos a ver.

Anything to keep from having to clean out my garage.

Actually, I could see this as being worth it maybe in smaller amounts if by water curing it makes ABV oil taste better or at least neutral. I've done butter and ABV and subsequently made brownies, but they were gag-worthy (but very couch-locky).

I'm a little baffled about some peoples fear of the law still. I know a guy who smoked pot and liked it when he was a teen, and now that he is almost 50 and is still a virgin, he will not enjoy weed or grow it even though he live in a secluded tree area. He does not drink, he does not have sex and he does not smoke or even consume chocolate, and the one thing he can do for fun, he will not because it is against federal law, even though it is state legal for medicinal use and it is decriminalized where I live. This poor guy will, live rest of life without any thing to give him pleasure. All cause federal law.

And yet here we are not only enjoying this stuff, but finding ways to enjoy the ABV. Sometimes it makes me wonder why some people follow every specific law to the letter, and for what in the end? Time living a life that could have been spent unlawful and lived to it's fullest.
