Does vaping work for pain?

Howdy guys! I usually don't make my first post anywhere a question, but despite searching these forums and Google i came up short handed.

Is vaping any good for pain? From my understanding vaping primarily releases THC-v and THC which are useless for pain. While a vape can release cannabidiol it is in much lower concentrations and much less effective than when smoking because of the high THC-CBD ratio? Please enlighten me as to if and how a vape can be effective for treating chronic pain. My grandpa has horrible arthritis and I was hoping to buy and share my da buddha (once i buy it) with him.. If not I might have to invest in a good ice-bong. I doubt though i could get him to smoke anything...

Thanks guys and if I end up buying a DBV i look forward to becoming a member of this community :)

Welcome to FC man. I use mmj for pain and vaping works well for me. If i really hurt i eat some of my stuff thats already been vaped (ABV) its fully decarb'ed and has any left over unextracted cannabinoids. Good luck i use a Silver surfer (ssv) and i love it. Fuck Combustion

That's great to hear! I'm sure my 68 year old grandfather would much rather inhale vapour then a thick cloud of smoke! Even i have troubles at times.. haha. Also totally forgot about ABV, i guess that must be uber concentrated in all those secondary cannabinoids.

Funny I put "thc pain" into google and came up with a plethora of studies and documents all concerning THC and pain relief, not sure where you are getting your info but here are basic temp refs. Also FMRI proves humans experience pain both as a tactile sensation and as an emotion, probably why cannabis treats some pains better than others and also why it can treat many kinds of pain, sometimes kinds you wouldn't expect.

I have two different kinds of pains. From some past surgery shit, I ended up with 9 scars on my back, sides, and chest. For the most part, they're fine. Don't bug me, look cool at the beach, even helps me get girls once I tell them I fell down a tree saving a litter of newborn kittens :brow: All silliness aside, it doesn't happen often, but I get a really really sharp pain on them. Usually it's just the two big ones on my back, sometimes it's more... but NOTHING helps me more than the strongest sativa I can get. Not even indicas help with that kind of pain. It dulls it a little bit but it's still very much apparent. For my other aches, primarily my joints, indicas are the way to go and sativas don't usually do much. It seems to me at least that sativas are more for nerve pain, and indicas help with my swelling, aching, joints. Maybe I'm just crazy, I'll need to test this out some more :science:

for sure! i imagine you would have to be vaping an indica (better for pain ime) but it definitely does the job very well.

You can get most of the cannabinoids with vapor, but you'll probably want to go high temp. Most people seeking pain relief have gravitated to the high end of the temp range. This is an old video but has good info and the narrator is familiar with vaping for pain relief.

I've been vaping for pain (this is day 2). I was a heavy combuster. I have IBS and severe stomach pains.

So far I start out vaping at 190 degrees celsius and go to 205 degrees celsius, and it seems to do me justice. I put the ABV in my newly created jar just for ABV :-).

I hope I'm not wasting or not getting all I can get by just going up to 205 degrees celsius on my Extreme Q but that seems to be a good temperature.

Heh, ever since switching over to vaping, I don't worry about "wasting" anything. I'm vaping 1/3 of what I was smoking, instead of smoking a g+ a day, I vape .6 tops. The ABV is excellent for pain/sleeping as it's mostly CBD for me.

Thanks for the knowledge bomb guys, i always thought THC was terrible for pain, hence why the THC pill they made isn't any good (from what i hear anyways).

t-dub could you post the link to where you found that info? I'd love to read into it a little more, interesting stuff!

So, for me, I find that if you use an indica and a slightly higher temperature it's better for pain. I medicate for terrible back pain, and I use sativa during the day (it works, but not as well) and indica at night. With the right indica I can sleep without much pain at all. If I actually have an attack, edibles will knock it back and then some. When both of my disks bulge, forget it- nothing helps.

So, yea I use vaping to combat pain and I think the variety makes a big difference. I can't do indicas during the day, I get too sleepy and burnt feeling. So sativa works for daytime, but if you want to vape away pain, go with the indica :)

Heres the original study
http://www.scribd.com/doc/29666084/...-Extracts-Greater-Than-the-Sum-of-Their-Parts

I think marinol is not as effective as cannabis cause THC and CBD are synergists and help each other. While most of the benefits from the cannabis plant come from the dozens of cannabinoids and how they interact with our bodies various endocannbiod receptors activating different healing processes throughout the body. I feel that THC potentiates and helps the CBDs effect within your body. I feel more pain relief when I vape a fresh bowl then just vaping the last of a ssv wand from a unfinished previous session. IMO this is because thc potentiates and adds it's own amount of pain relief even though most studies say the majoritiy of cannabis pain analgesia comes from the CBD receptors.

Edit: took way too long to make this post quetz beat me to the chart haha

Haha, sorry buddy! Here's the top link in your post, but in .pdf for offline viewing:

And on the topic of your comment regarding THC and potentiation of other cannabinoids, I am of the opinion that pure THC is just bad bad times. I think that it's the CBD that runs the business, telling the other cannabinoids how to act. I saw this video a while back, the lady was given an IV of THC and had a horrible time, but as soon as they added more cannabinoids to the mix, she was laughing until she cried.

I totally agree high doses of THC alone is no bueno. You are much more likely to get side effects that can seriously scare somebody, anxiety, paranoia, disassociation, etc. It's all a balancing act my favorite night time pain med right now is a Sativa topped with some wand hash. Oh talking about pain relief that wand hash is great but it's for night time only for me cause it is lights out afterward haha

Interesting vid man thanks for sharing

I kinda miss wand hash. It was nice to collect and keep it for severe pain because it was so potent. Sadly, I don't use a vaporizer that uses a whip/wand anymore, so no more wand hash for me. :(

High temps if you need CBD, but you may even want to approach combustion temps depending on what actives you're after and how quickly you need some/all to hit your bloodstream. I usethe VHW for herb and ThermoVape DART for extracts - both dial my neuropathic pain (8-10/10 shooting nerves on fire) down to zero in seconds, they work best for me.

I think it's amazing how despite the sheer amount of research that goes into trying to demonize the herb, we still know very little about it.. I have no doubt within 20 years some of the best medicines in the world will be cannabinoid based. After watching that video and following-some links (bad habit) i found this study that shows cannabis positive babies suffer fewer moralities. Amazing stuff!

I think you mean mortalities, and maybe you could post the link.

Also, I just wanted to say this thing handles reclaim oil well. Pushed a little nug through, and set it on top of about 1/3 of a trench of stuff I had taken 3 hits from and crumbled... went for 65% power, let it cook a few seconds, inhale... and then the nug just started expanding like a rose blooming in about 5 seconds! First hit, felt it within the minute. Second hit, feel it in my eyes. Third and fourth were mixed in with fresh material for a full trench.... I can feel it in my temples now.
