I can't stand Dave Mustaine, but Megadeth is a damn good band. Never heard this song; but it makes a good theme song for Helicopter Huntress Sarah Palin...

Interesting Fact about this album: "Countdown to Extinction was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 1993 Grammy Awards and the title track of the album won the Humane Society's Genesis Award, making Megadeth the only heavy metal band to be given this honor."

I agree, amazing song all round. First Megadeth album I bought.
But if you ever see/read about Dave Mustaine being interviewed these days, it's best to just ignore anything he says.

LOL This album brings back some rather fond memories. Freshly out of HS, and lots of THC and trippin.
This and Cypress Hill (self titled) album were pretty much the trip night out rotation while playing copious amounts of Super Mario Kart.

Good times indeed. :D

Because he is a bloody git. I think his most recent tirade involved claiming Obama was behind the Batman shooting so he would be able to pass a law outlawing guns.

But of course :)

He just comes across as a moaning douchebag in most cases, from conspiracy theories to deciding not to play certain songs anymore because he's a born again christian and they go against his beliefs and blah.

Great band though, no denying the mans talent to write killer riffs.

Dave Mustaine is such an asshole. Plus he hasn't written anything good since the early 90's. So he is a talentless asshole, the best kind.

I just got the fact that you misspelled 'Extinction' in your thread title.

I LOLed.

I read it as Extrication the first time. You know you've been spending too much time with the Firefighters when...

I disagree. He fell off for a decade starting with Youthanasia, but

The System Has Failed
United Abominations
Endgame

Were all good albums.

Nah, they only seem good because the previous three albums were so crappy in comparison. If The System has Failed was released after Youthanasia, the suckiness would be much more obvious. Even Chris Broderick can't save Megadeth from it's current never ending cycle of monotonous and uninspired riffing.

I mean, they are still better than Metallica, but does that really say much?

Now that my friend is laughable!

Sure Metallica may have 'sold out'. And sure, (now that I am older and wiser) I feel sheepish for once touting Lars as the GOAT of drummers. But better than Metallica?

Mustaine had some moments as a songwriter, but as far as a lyricist?
Buahahahahahaha

Case in point - 2 (identical) Megadeth/Metallica song(s) from the OG.

Mechanix vs. The Four Horsemen

Identical songs (save bridge) WAY different lyrics.
Metallica wins.
Game over (Speaking of which... This makes me digress back to my Nuclear Assault days)
Then again, I listen to them nowdays and wonder what the fuck I was thinking back then too...

I'll also have to disagree with this. The newer albums are obviously not as good as earlier ones but he can still write a decent riff and bust out a good guitar solo, the ending of Burnt Ice springs to mind. The lyrics can be a bit cringey and his live voice is awful but...

Dave and crew played in belfast on the so far so good tour and played "anarchy in the Usa"during which he proceeded to tell the crowd that Ireland belonged to the Irish...:uhoh: bad move. The venue was almost destroyed and Dave had to be removed from the venue under armed escort.Peace sells but whos buyin:peace:

Sacred Reich ignorance that was an album:) still very relevant and gets regular plays here. D.R.I.dealing with it another one.and billy racist milano OmFg was he serious, We idolised the Bay area and most of what the USA put out then.
