Herb Grinders

That's because you don't go through 1-2g/day like many on here do. A hand grinder can become a royal pain in the ass to maintain/clean. And for those that don't reclaim (me) can also be wasteful. I always "pulse" but it's just as violent flinging off crystals as not pulsing IMO. Those crystals can just easily be added back into the herb.

wonder if a hand cranked grinder (has a leaver to hold onto to turn the blades) would be better? seen a few on the net, some are for coffee and some are for herbs. but you're right, 1 or 2g lasts me months. not complaining. picked up some last night that looks like its covered with mold but its actually crystals. proly need to grind again this weekend. don't like too much sitting around preground.

Ya I wish 1 or 2g would last me a week let alone months lol How do you do it? Maybe you don't have an addictive personality or medical needs?

I'm interested in those hand cranked grinders too, just think they could become gummed up as well?

never smoke more than i need to get a good buzz going. some people keep toking and toking and i know they are just as buzzed as i am or more but they keep on toking. the more you smoke the more you need. same with booze. medically i've cut way back on the one pill i'm supposed to take every day. now only take it about 3 or 4 times a week. also cut way back on drinking not that it was more than once or twice on the weekends. only real reason i toke is to help with meditation. once i learn how to meditate i wont have to medicate anymore. or as often lol

Wow, you got that right forsure. I'm one of those who would vape after vape, but now i've been 4 weeks cannabis free, and will try the same approach you take. That's awesome about the meditation, when I get more time i'll PM you about that. With meditation, it's like being stoned? lol

look into singing bowls and try one next time you're stoned. without weed it takes you to uncharted territories. with a little medication its unbelievable. back to grinders, if someone has a medium or large grinder it shouldn't take any more that 30 minutes to grind a zip. whats the rush?

Singing bowls?

It's not about the rush, it's about the maintenance/cleaning... i've nearly thrown hand grinders threw drywall before! lol I know I know, anger management...hehe.

I posted some pics of a hand crank grinder a while ago waaayyy back in the thread. The results are pretty good, although I wouldn't get the plastic model I used below. The Mouli Parsmint (or similar) is much better- it's all metal and stronger and less likely to wear. I used to use one years ago, before the hand disc grinders were widely available.

It's pretty maintenance free- the blades/handle pop out for cleaning. A bit does accumulate around the spindle in between the blades though. Once it gets to a certain critical level no more can accumulate and it operates fairly worry free, but if you're a clean freak who wants it spotless after each grinding then it might be an issue for you. At the very least you might want to use it with a toothpick on hand to clear between the blades each time.

You need to take a little care also- too large a stem can bend the blades (though you don't want to be vaping stems that fat anyway IMO)

Well I've been playing with yet another grinder- a kitchen 'Herb and Nut Mill' this time; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260863922511

Inexpensive at £4.75, and with a bit of modification it works well!

dscf0433u.jpg
dscf0434bf.jpg

It's a bit like one of the old style 'Mullamatic' grinders, but with a catching container built in underneath. The unit also fixes to the worksurface with suckers on the bottom, which is quite handy but doesn't change my life. It does mean it has a 'home' place.

dscf0435y.jpg
dscf0437s.jpg

Unfortunately out of the box the bottom part of the grinding mechanism (the flat strips) doesn't meet closely with the shaft of the cutting wheel, and as a result the bud just gets jammed up in there. With bone dry material it might work OK, though I doubt it, and for certain modification is needed to effectively grind buds. As you can see I simply caved in the strips at the bottom, pressing with a screwdriver to remove the gap between them and the shaft. Hard to explain verbally, but I hope you get what I mean.

dscf0439b.jpg

(the coin is a tiny UK 5p. No idea on the international size equivalent)
Ugly modification done and this actually produces a really good fine and uniform grind. Better results wise than many hand held grinders. I've got it fixed to my shelf with it's suckers next to my ssv and it's actually OK overall. I like that it's kind of a 'fixed installation' and grinding it into the little drawer. It's also bigger than disc grinders and handy for grinding several grams at a time.

On the negatives, firstly it's clearly nowhere near as nice to handle or use as a metal CNC built grinder. secondly I'm not too sure about the attachment of the grinding spindle- of course there's no bearing and it's just the spindle resting in the plastic holes (square spindle in round plastic holes! :o) - over time there's bound to be some wear on the plastic, and who knows where that will end up. No sign of wear yet though after a few uses, and it's not likely to be any meaningful amount of plastic IMO, but I know that it will be a big negative potential in the eyes of many.

Overall it doesn't do a bad job for under £5. With a little redesign it could be perfect as a home grinder. However, it's clearly not a design for everybody and has no stealth or portability aspects to triumph, so I won't bother redesigning it and bringing it to market. :2c:

Snapped a pic of my Space Case family. Left to right it's the small 4 pc w/ "titanium" finish, standard small 4 pc, small 2 pc, then on the end is a small stash container and a pollen press. Yes I very well might have a SC fetish! I have a couple generic grinders that I'm giving away to friends, but I didn't feel like including those.

Are the hole sizes the same on the 4 piece small and medium? I figured the holes are too big, but I suppose grinding upside down will get the herb as fine as you want it?

Also what do you think of the titanium vs standard?

Medium is 6mm (for sure) and small is 5, if I remember right. Nothing w/smaller holes unless you get the 4 piece Scout.

titanium vs standard?
For durability there's no real world difference, and the appearance holds up better, long term, on the plain aluminum, unless you handle the ti with care and avoid scratching it. The biggest difference, aside from the look, is that the ti finish requires a little less cleaning due to the anodized coating.

Unless you're going to collect kief you're better off with a 2 piece model. Much better buy. In fact, I'd get a pollen sifter box from Puffitup, and a 2 pc., vs. paying the high price for a 4 pc. SC.

Max pretty much covered it... I don't think I'd get another "titanium" finish grinder because the finish just doesn't last. But it's nice to look at, so it's a show piece of sorts. The raw aluminum seems pretty solid, and it looks a hell of a lot better scratched up than the darker finish. See the 2pc in my pic, it is pretty beat up but still grinds like a champ!

Thanks guys, I think I may pick up a medium 2 piece standard aluminum. I just feel like the holes may be too big in the 4 piece, and the cost is too much. I considered that mendo vape specific 4 piece with the smaller holes, but again can't justify the cost.

Hey Steele, I have a Space Case 2 Piece Medium and it's great, but I find 2.5" kinda big for grinding more conservative amounts. Do you think the Small 2 piece 2" would be more suitable? Would it provide a better grind at all? I prefer fairly fine grinds. Thanks, BTW your Steele Water Pipe looks real slick!

Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy me a grinder for my magic flight launch box. This means the grinder must be able to have an extremely fine grind.

Currently I'm looking at these two but I'm not sure which I should go for.

The first is a mendo mulcher but is a 1.75" diameter which seems to be made especially for vapers in mind. I like the smaller than usual through holes they have decided to use, and also the amount of teeth this grinder has.

http://mendomulchers.com/product25.asp

The second is a 4 piece space case mini/small SCOUT grinder.
I like that this is a space case as I've heard how good they are. I like the size, it's 1.25 " diameter so a bit smaller than the mendo mulcher vaper grinder. What I'm not sure of though is how fine does this grind? Can it compare with the grinder above? How do the through holes compare?

If anyone can help me choose between these two I would be very grateful. Also I'd love to hear from people who own either of these, or if anyone has any recommendations similar to these.

Thanks all!

static electricity is the culprit imo. find a way to zap the static and the material won't stick to the grinder. with coffee i'd use a damp paper towel then toss it. don't think you'd like this option huh?

I have the 2.25" vape mendo 4 piece and like it a lot and it does grind pretty fine but for MFLB why not consider these?

1. coffee grinder. less than $15 you can make it as fine as you wish. Lots love them, I own one but I like the manual process of fondling and grinding my herbs.

2. Why not the MFLB nano grinder?

Hi Ru_frothi,

I already do have a MFLB nano grinder but find as soon as my material isn't the driest it will jam up very fast. Trying to grind material for my next trench and having to struggle a bit with this thing kind of ruins my buzz a little bit.

I don't want a coffee grinder just of yet as I'm out quite a lot.

Have you tried using the mendo mulcher vape grinder upside to achieve an even finer grind? I can't make my mind up between the mendo mulcher and the space case 4 piece scout (MINI).

Can you please talk more about the vape mendo? You're the only person I've come across who has one.
Thanks!

Thanks man. I just checked out the small 2 piece 1 7/8" dia. If you have questions you should send space case or the amazon seller your question.

I remember a thread here where people said the small or medium ti Space Case were both great for vaporizing. Either one should be just fine :)

Space Case rocks! Also mine has no paint chips or any BS. Just as nice as the day I got it.

Sometimes it helps if you want something to start a money jug. I like those big water jugs. Any time you get change, it goes in there. Any time you can spare a dollar, throw it in the jug.

water-jug-1.jpg

It's kind of a psychological thing, but you will be surprised how much money you will save. It also teaches you saving discipline for the future. If you are saving for something, don't you dare touch that jug! I recently emptied mine and had $175 worth of change, cha-ching!

This technique goes for Space Cases, water pipes, clothes, tv, those expensive ass hybrid kittens etc. If you want the item, in time you'll have it.

:2c: (pun intended, hehe)
