Herb Grinders

Regarding only electric coffee grinders, what do you guys consider "the best"? I just use a black&decker but find alot of inconsistency, not sure if it's the blades. I can get fine/course/nugs all in the same grind. Wondering if some are more "suitable" than others, and price is no object.

I got myself a 2 piece grinder... pretty much identical to my 4 piece Space Case. I really do not like 2 stage grinders. I don't like having to spin it. I appreciate the extra length on the 4 piece grinders, it makes it easier to spin. I also find my desk had allot more crumbs on it with the 2 piece. I find I am dumping the stuff out into the 3rd stage of the 4 piece grinder. I can get a finer grind because it does not fall though, but I could just turn the other 4 piece over and it would work just as well. I think with my big hands I just appreciate the 4 piece more.

Hey SLiM, I totally agree with you! I couldn't stand my 2 piece medium Space Case, and depending on how dry it was, small amounts wouldn't get a very fine grind at all. My biggest issue was having to "dump" it out into or on to something else and I would have kief kinda everywhere, I just didn't like it, too messy and would gum up quick due to the herb having nowhere to go. Although I found my old 4 piece sharpstone had a tendency to stick as well, I think i'll give the mendo a shot, but I still think coffee grinder for ease of use, cleanup, and kif collection is where it's at. Just need to find a good quality one with removeable grinder bowl.

I really think you're right, it's taken a beating and ofcourse the plastic piece that is the "button" broke off, just like it did on a past one. This is why i'm in the market for something good, that works well with herbs (I don't drink coffee lol).

SD_haze, I believe i have the same one. It says Mr. Coffee on the side. The bottom of mine says MODEL: IDS77

If I can recall I think I purchased mine at Target or Wal-Mart for around that price.

I've had it for several years, it's got the removable lid and it's a quality unit.

EDIT: Oh, it is the SAME model lol. There is IDS77 right in your URL.

ok so i'm going to buy the Mr Coffee IDS77 for my coffee grinder. Is there an advantage to purchase the Mendo vaporizer grinder too? It's $65+ with shipping which is pricey for a grinder and just wondering if it's worth the money if I already will have the Mr Coffee.

Also what about the Mendo vs space case med. 4 piece? I suppose the space case is maybe better quality, but has bigger holes?

you can get a quality grinder for less than the two luxury brands.....

mendo and space case are luxury items....

Kelly's Great Products on Ebay, Puffitup, Otherside vapes, vapeworld all have far more affordable grinders than those two.

It just depends what your looking for.... I love that mendo but is not 3X as good as my other grinders. I do like the smaller holes and the overall size and made in america.

try the coffee grinder first. Many of us here have like 10 grinders to go with the 10 vapes we have so I doubt we are "normal"

That would be kellysgreatproducts. I've bought a range of grinders from him, and IMO his Titan models are the best buy. The 4 piece models have removeable screens and the small 2 piece is a great buy. His other 'all CNC' grinders are good but price wise I've done much better here- http://merchantswholesale.ecrater.com/p/10961827/5-piece-silver-smart-crusher-25-premium

Mendo Mulcher's design is a poor one for a fine grind. It cuts through bud quick and easy and is fine for a coarse grind, but even their smallest two piece doesn't do for fine grinding.

Lots of people like a cheap coffee grinder for a fine grind, but personally, I can't get into that method-just personal preference.

Two piece grinders are a good buy, even Space Case. If you want a 4 pc., I've found the name brands like SC, Mendo, Cosmic, etc., to be way overpriced. I'd rather buy one of Puffitup's sifter boxes and a 2 pc. grinder, than shell out the big bucks for a 4 pc.

I agree with you except about the Mendo. Their vape grinder does produce a fine grind. I posted A/B comparison pics with the PuffItUp two peice grinder and my sharpstone and it does produce a finer grind. The monster 3" from Kelly's produces the coursest grind of the ones I have.

RE: the mendo, like Ruforthi said they actually have a new "type" of grinder on their website that wasn't there even a few months ago, when I bought my mendo, called a "vape grinder" that they say has smaller holes for finer grinding.

Its still very expensive, but its only 4pc.

I love my mendo, but largely because it was only $20
(Plus i don't have a vape like MFLB that requires an ultra-fine grind)

this is why i like my small 4 pcs chromium so much. the holes are much much smaller then the holes on most standard grinders. provides a much finer grind as well. some of the prices on grinders are insane. i see no real need to spend more than $20 to get a quality 2 or 4 pcs grinder.

I got one of those Mr Coffee Grinders. I used it once. I went back to my SpaceCase instantly. It does grind pretty fine, although no more then if I turn my 4 piece grinder upside down. What I really do not like is how much of the material gets plastered against the side. I feel like I am loosing allot of the good stuff to the side of the container. I also feel like the cleaning might be more of a chore then my 4 piece grinder. I would have liked using this grinder when I had a broken hand. For that reason I will keep it around, so I can use it if I ever need an electric grinder.

The size of the holes does make a difference, but it's the tooth design on the Mendos that makes 'em crappy for a fine grind. They only give you two edges-front and back. Once they slice through the bud, they just keep going through the same path. There's nothing to move the herb around, and even if you shake it up, it just slices some more. Makes for a quick but coarse grind-fine for a lot of uses, just poor for a fine grind.

cleaned all the nooks and crannies in the grinder yesterday with a wooden tooth pick and saved the pile of sticky goo for last night. Holy smoke! that really kicked my butt. need to find plastic tooth picks, wooden ones didn't hold up.

My pictures don't lie. The results I achieve daily and comparison shots I posted does not jive with what you are saying....

what are you recommending for a finer grind?

read somewhere that after grinding turn the grinder upside down and continue to grind. supposed to get the ground herb back into the grinding chamber to grind it finer. never had a need to try this but sounds like it will work.

I'm with you frothi, I don't think Max has tried their vaporizer grinder so I don't believe that the teeth don't grind fine, ESPECIALLY based on your personal and photo evidence. I don't take any chances with grinders and will only buy the "luxury" ones. I don't wany any metal filings, etc. so will more than likely just go with the Mr Coffee grinder (I was happy with cheap coffee grinders, not sure why i wouldnt be happy with the mr. coffee) AND also get the 4 piece mendo vaporizer grinder. I'm avoiding the spacecase simply because I think the holes are too big.

One thing I have learned recently though is that even though I get AAA+ quality herbs from compassion clubs that are cured impeccably, I need to let them dry out in the air more. I was always paranoid of "oxidation" and reduced potency but apparently that isn't an issue? How long can you let it air dry without losing actives?

SLiM, I understand losing kif to the sides of the grinder bowl, but that's what a nice brush can take care of.

I did that. There are some parts of the grinder that you can't quite brush out. Some loss is inevitable. There are these three plastic arms around the edge of the bowl. I think you can manually spin them to loosen up the ground coffee. I am kind of talking about that area, and the area under the grinder blade. Those parts rotated around freely. After a couple sessions they are getting stuck in place. I assume some material is getting caked in there and stuck. It is nothing major. I am also extremely resistant to change. Just changing from a 4 piece to Electric makes it different enough for me to be weary. I want to keep it for situations where my hands are too sore to turn the 4 piece grinder. I also think I would recommend it to the cancer/arthritis suffers. I think it would make it easier to grind for vaping then a grinder would be.

cleaned the aluminum grinder the other day using a wooden tooth pick. smoked a small amount of the sticky stuff a couple times and wow, that stuff is potent. ten times more kick than the weed that was ground. can't wait until the grinder needs cleaned again.

Was at Walmart yesterday and I think I found my coffee grinder! It's a kitchen aid with a stainless steel bowl that is removable and dishwasher safe (as is the lid). Very nice and sturdy (3 lbs i believe), and I think the SS bowl will be good for kif not really sticking to it. It's probably overkill though lol

don't forget to pulse the grinding when using a coffee grinder. pulsing might not fling as much crystals off imho. definitely faster and less work than an herb grinder. personally couldn't use one, have a small aluminum grinder that can grind enough for a months use in a couple minutes.

That's because you don't go through 1-2g/day like many on here do. A hand grinder can become a royal pain in the ass to maintain/clean. And for those that don't reclaim (me) can also be wasteful. I always "pulse" but it's just as violent flinging off crystals as not pulsing IMO. Those crystals can just easily be added back into the herb.
