Small water pipe Suggestions Please

Who makes the best small water pipes? I've been thinking about getting Cheech 7mm Double Beaker Perc, Hoss 7mm Mini Perc/Beaker or SSFG travel beaker/tube and maybe their mini inline down the line... but I always like knowing my options. Obviously I like that SSFG is a small, family company.

I just really don't need a tall bong. I'd like something a little more discreet that I can travel with if necessary. 8-10 inch max. Any ideas?

Is Black Leaf worth looking into? They seem to have a few smaller pieces.

I'm also not adverse to a bubbler, but I think I'd prefer a bong.

Edit: also really liking the Hoss 7mm Mini Perc and Cheech 7mm Double beaker perc also, though both are larger than what I originally wanted.

For value I'd go with an SSFG travel tube, but since you mentioned 7mm twice, for durable quality I would definitely go with the 12 inch 7mm beaker on bitfreakglass.com by US Tubes

Only catch is its quoted @ $220 (#51)

7mm is probably more gimmick than anything with the two companies I listed. I'm sure it's 7mm at the thickest point and +/- elsewhere.

$220 is well above what I wanted to spend, even if it's a really nice piece.

Yeah, that is exactly why US is that expensive, its one of the few glass brands with truly uniform thick thickness. Their 9mm tube is well over ten pounds haha

You should be able to get 20% off the price of both or so, they usually have coupons floating around the net somewhere. That'd be a tough little travel tube.

Thickness doesn't necessarily equal strength to be honest, what you really want is a nice quality of well cured stress-free glass (not saying that that 9mm isn't just that btw, just making a point).

With the size you describe it can only be a 100ml Ehle me thinks. I believe Fred(eric Mcguire) still has his for sale in the classifieds.. Not sure if it comes with a diffused downstem though, but if not there are plenty of those available.

^^Whilst what your saying is definitely true, I can't say I agree here where the difference in thickness is so significant. A 9mm piece vs a 2.5mm (ehle)? That's glass saucepan thickness and weight; The 9 will be stronger in the vast majority of cases, e.g. an accidental small knock against a sink or faucet, small drops, table knock overs.

I've an inexpensive 9mm HVY travel tube that now comes to multi day music festivals and has been rock solid through all its drops and bashes at the hands of tripping people, the german Roor that served before it died quickly from an easy mistake. It's a lot easier for me having a 9mm with a low profile stem for travel, I throw it in the car casually and don't baby it or worry about it when there's chaos at the campsite like I would with a non prodo piece.

I have heard nothing but good things about US tubes. Excellent quality to price ratio IMHO.

I have been buying small waterpipes in local convenience stores in my area, i usually only spend like $10 and if i accidentally drop it... then oh well I just go buy another one, no great loss...

I have found over the years that you buy glass to break it, no matter what. When you put your money down for glass it is with the assumption that it WILL break. $10 is an acceptable loss IMO

They are not super thick and don't come with brand names or anything like that.. but TEN DOLLARS is the convincing factor for me...

I've bought gas station glass before, but I'd rather go with something a little higher on the quality scale this time. Who knows what the glass is made of in those shops?

And yeah, I'm sure it will eventually break and drop. Still, if I'm careful I might get a good year or two.

Nice suggestions Cereal. Both links have very affordable glass. Those ZOB straight ice tubes look great for a buck twenty. I love how there are so many more options these days than 10 years ago when if one was looking at scientific it had to be ROOR, iLLadelph or Ph(x).

I was going to wait until I got the gear to update, but I went with the SSFG Travel Beaker. It's 7.5"+ which is exactly around the size I wanted.

I also just picked up this a/c to use in the interim while I wait for the tube, and while I decide if I want the inline a/c from SSFG, or go in a different direction. They also blow a chubbler, which interests me and I might just get one when they have time.

In the mean time, does anyone know of a good small diffused a/c. On my bucket list would be a removable diffuser. Ideally something 3.5" or smaller.

Even at 4", I worry this will look too large/be too heavy for the 7.5" travel tube.

Could y'all post some pics of these waterpipes from gas stations and convenience stores? I'm very curious what you're talking about---absolutely nothing going on like that around where I am. :shrug:

There's nothing to post really. Some convenience stores and gas stations in Southern Ontario sell glass pipes and waterpipes. Mostly china glass. I distinctly remember the gas station near Durham College being like that.
