Looks like the Pax needs high maintenance to keep it functioning properly, I'd say clean it before every charge, it may seem like a pain in the ass but for the price you pay you may want to do it, just to get your moneys worth, if there's no build up then there's no problem, and as far as wax and concentrates probably bad idea since they have a lot of resin and could gunk up the device.

I wonder if the kinks are just because this is the first round of Pax shipments, maybe the second round of shipments may have better function? I don't know but I just cancelled my order with Vapeworld which won't have the pax in cobalt till Aug. 20th and black and purple till Sept. 10th, way too long of a wait...I ordered it from vapor store, I called them and they said they have purple and black in stock and my Black Pax will be shipped out today, only thing is they don't have replacement parts for the Pax at vaporstore.com extra screens and lids and mouth piece will come in handy from the comments I've seen here, anyway my Pax is on it's way, for those who bought the Pax on vapeworld and are waiting, if you decide to cancel your order it says it will take 24 to 72 hours to be credited back, so you decide.

Thanks for the heads up!!! The only reason I ordered a blue was because they were the only color in stock. First choice was black because im all about the stealth aspect.

VW cancelled the Pax part of my order, and will ship the rest of my order (screens) when they come in.

And of course, I got my black pax order in @ vaporstore!!! Hopefully it goes out today!!!

Again, mad props for the above post!!

vaporstore.com is who I purchased through. Very nice people. My first unit the tracking number hasn't updated in a week so I called expressing my concern that my unit could be lost in the mail and they sent me a second unit. They just told me if the other one shows up reject it. New tracking number is updated took a day to update, very excited now.

edit: although curious as to how they are saying shipping all colors. Also noticed no link to buy replacement parts like screens and mouthpieces.

Sweet! Vaporstore has sent out my Pax! If all goes well ill have it this weekend to try out. Is it possible i wonder to use it with a waterpipe withour turning it upside down? Im wondering if that had anything to do with boob's button getting stuck. At least we have a super nice warrenty to back us up when stuff goes wrong

I'm thinking my MFLB waterpipe adapter and my Cloud's Hydratube should work

Just got off the chat with ploom, their solution was cleaning the mouthpiece more frequently or they might have to replace the Pax. They said opening the Pax for anything would void the warranty(they don't care if your an electrical engineer)

I didn't clean it thoroughly after it put to much oil and let it sit upside down as it cooled. I'm going to do a thorough cleaning around the air-path and see how long it lasts.

Slim can you comment on the mouthpiece sticking? I don't think you have used concentrates if im correct, how are your results? Longest before having to clean?

Seems like having to open up the pax to clean an inassesable spring that get coated by the vapor path when the spring is depressed is not the way to go about things.... A sticking mouthpiece seems to be problem número uno, battery charging at a second. Any new device can have problems, but a device that can't be fully 100 percent clean seems inconvient especially when we were told all separated vapor path. For 250 dollars and the hype, waiting and testing they said they did, you think they would have noticed something as essential as the mouthpiece not holding in the slot do to resin build up...

I'm pretty sure these sticking mouthpieces are some kind of defect, mine has gone through more than half an ounce and I've only done a single cleaning of the heater and inside of stem, I just wiped the top of that spring outside the stem because it was only barely yellow. I wonder if the spring is binding or twisting or something and that's what's holding it closed, I just don't see liquid resin build-up holding the spring back...

I called them and they said the replacement parts are not available at this time, they said they would try to get them today or hopefully by the weekend, but they still would have to update the website to make them available, funy thing is speaking with Vapeworld and the Vaporstore over the phone, the demand for the unit took everyone by surprise, they didn't have enough units to meet the demand and so replacement parts had the same problem, though you can still get replacement parts at Vapeworld come Monday the 20th, or get them at Ploom.com but they will charge you tax and shipping.

Thanks for the heads up moneycheeba. I notice vaporstore is located in utah, but my tracking for my ploom is originating in SF, CA.

yeah I think that's the same place Ploom is located if I'm not mistaken, in San Fran. but honestly I think the vaporstore is actually located in Cali, actually all over the united states they have affiliations all over I checked there location listing and there are a lot of stores, looks like they can get products from boutiques and ship them from there, interesting if that's the case

I also found this:

Vapor Store

Man I want that larger battery in my Pax so bad... but the value of a 10 year warranty... I might have to ask them, if something unrelated to changing the battery happens, would they service the Pax for a fee?

I guess my noticing skills are a bit off. CA it is! @ anyone who has opened their device.. any kind of stickers rip or alarms go off? Or do they just take the pic from a NASA satellite and put you on the naughty list? :tinfoil:

Especially if this 'voids the warranty' I'm still ploom less over here though so I can't really comment but on the experiences of others. A sticking mouthpiece seems to be problem número uno, battery charging at a second. For 250 dollars and the hype, waiting and testing they said they did, you think they would have noticed something as essential as the mouthpiece not holding in the slot do to resin build up. I'm sure tobacco makes resin too, especially with the fruit sugared version of tobacco available (which it was made for) I don't think we are having this issue just because of the herb we are using.

wow. thank you. i was writing about this mouthpiece button in the early pages of this thread before i got my pax. i'm kinda feeling like a should have stuck with my gut on this thing and held off. its uber cool, but even if it has a 10yr warranty.. if this does turn out to be a design flaw then i'm not sure what they'd do. i feel like this will be the achilles heel of the pax since the mouthpiece vapor tube *clearly* goes over top of the vapor path in the body of the device. in the nature of actuating that button you are going to push debris/oils along that shaft. SliM actually did say his button was getting sticky but that cleaning it free'd it up a bit. i'm curious to know if that has come back and persistent on his unit.

No stickers or anything, the little red lines wore off on the magnets from handling them, so maybe that. The silicone gaskets maybe if they are warped. Make sure to slide it out oven first. They used talcum powder to slide it in originally. I wiped it all with iso inside and just slowly slid it back into place.

Ive cleaned mine very well now so were back to perfectly clean. For me its not a big deal. Ill see how long it take on normal use(not letting a bunch of oil run up there when it was hot).

This thing had amazing design and I love it. I think a daily wipe of inside the mouthpiece is doing to do the trick.

besides shipment issues, (a bit off topic for the thread, sorry to start it) anyone else loving their ploom or any more bubbler action shots?

kushcabbage,
A great tool for people asking about a tamper, stirrer, etc... Is a pipe tobacco tool, just google that and youll find a ton and they are cheap. Most local tobacco shops should have them. May even find them at WalMart, Target, etc...

Any chance of getting your 10% off code from your order confirmation email from Vaporstore (at the bottom) if you are not using it? Would like to order one as well. Please PM me.
Thanks.

I've had the PAX since Aug 1st and here are my impressions. First, this is a fabulous device and works beautifully. I clean the PAX after 2-3 loads and have had a minor sticking problem but not significant. It disappears after a cleaning.

Someone asked why they put a screen image on that piece of metal at the bottom of the oven. If you look at it carefully, the metal piece is not entirely flat, it goes up ever so slightly. That's how the vapor enters into the mouthpiece. So, it's important to clean it thoroughly top and bottom and replace it with the 'screen' side up. As has been pointed out in another post, if you bend the metal more, the draw would increase but then you'd probably suck in some particles which could also get stuck in the mouthpiece pathway. That brings up another point. Although some people suggest finely grinding up the herb, the risk is that particles will be sucked into the path of the tube and block it up. If the mouthpiece gets blocked up, it's hard to clean as the pipe cleaner doesn't go all the way through the opening in the mouthpiece.

Regarding flow of the pull, I think the PAX is perfect and the bend of the metal has probably been calibrated to get just the right amount of vape per pull. It should not be compared to a free flowing Vape like the Volcano. As other have said, if you pull on it like a joint filling up your mouth and breathing it in, it's perfect.

What works well for me is to use ground up herb with a standard grinder, load up the oven, pack it down and toke. I'm able to go 3 sessions on one load. That's about 4-5 pulls per session. I will stir it only after the second session and I always use it on Medium. Sometimes my session can be the same day or often the next. Although I've been smoking regularly since the 60s (yes I am an original), I'm a relatively light user in that I use it till I get medicated and don't go beyond. (I believe most people use much more than they need.) However, if you're a huge user and go through an ounce per week or two, then you'd probably be best served using a Volcano or some other industrial table top.

I like the PAX more than my Solo and I've only taken the Solo out once since having the PAX just to do a comparison. The PAX holds more than the Solo and its ease of use is not in the same ball park. I was at a play with my wife over the weekend and prior to opening curtain, I was sitting outside in the open air lounge. There were a few tobacco smokers and others taking in the evening. I pulled out my Pax, toked on it a few times and no one even glanced at me. This is so stealth that I would feel comfortable using it anywhere. If I had pulled out a joint and lit it up, you can imagine the reaction.

Every time I clean the PAX which I actually really like doing - it's like cleaning your new car or bike or toy - I fill it up, pack it in and put it on it's charge stand. The next time I'm ready (usually the next day), it's ready and waiting with it's green eye looking seductively at me.

By the way, someone brought up a great point. After using the PAX, make sure it cools down completely before inverting it for charging. This eliminates the possibility of any oily by-product making it's way up the mouthpiece air pipe.

Treat your PAX as you would a relatively delicate electronic unit. If we take care of it, it should never let us down. If you're more into massive usage and don't want to bother keeping it in tip-top shape, then the PAX may not be for you.
