I did the Saturday delivery as well. Should be here in less than 17 hours. The anticipation level is akin to that of having another child. I'm either going to go to bed early, or I'll stay up half the night obsessively watching the same 5 or 6 existing Pax video reviews over and over. Most likely the latter. At least I have my Solo to wait with me...

Yes, this will be my first vape and I am very anxious as well.
Looks like tomorrow there will be a bunch of new Pax owners around here.

Who's waiting it out for the other colors? I was thinking about waiting another 2 weeks for the blue one but decided to order the black one this morning.

I have enough capes and enough patience to wait for the purple one. In the meanwhile I'm giving my Puffit a thorough test.

Hey what do you think so far? I am digging my Puffit. If not for the initial plastic tastes I would have rated it a 9.5

Hey Kuroth. I love the Puffit and don't have any plastic taste. I'm anxious to give it a head to head test with the Pax. Only a couple if weeks to go.

On the VW site they say it isn't available till Aug 15? Is it available now? What's up with the preorder msg on the site?

Love my Puffit but want the Pax for home use.

For new readers of this blog who want a summary of what to expect, this is my summary of the PAX describing how I've used it and my experience.

Form and fit:
It's very well engineered (it's missing an Apple logo). It's brushed metal; has a nice weight and a great feel. It's very very portable and fits into a shirt pocket - in fact you could probably fit in 3. You can take it anywhere, any place, any time .... and that's my only criticism of the device, which I'll get into at the end.

How I use it:
I'll fill up the 'oven', which is a little stainless steel oven compartment on the bottom of the unit. Depending on the setting you select, it gets heated to 370 to over 400 degrees F., via the Lithium-Ion battery. When you suck air in through the top mouthpiece, the incoming hot air goes through the herb causing the cannabinoids within to sublimate. This is what causes the vapor which is inhaled through a stainless steel tube that goes into the mouthpiece.

I fill the oven full with an amount that I would normally use for a small joint. I turn the unit on, wait for the green light (30-45 seconds), then I take about 3 - 4 drags then shut it off. That's enough to get me nicely high (I have very good herbs).. Smoke more and you get more blasted. Then later on if I want to continue the buzz, I click it open and its good to go in another 30 seconds; I take a few more hits and I'm good again. Very very simple, easy and the affect is as good smoking it. Each full oven will last 3-4 sessions with 3-4 draws each session. I may stir it after the second session to mix up the green (weed that hasn't been stripped of THC with the gold pot which has).

Regarding battery life - After About 4 sessions the battery indicator went from green to orange which indicates more than halfway to go. It goes red at about 25%. So, battery will never be an issue.

The best part is that this thing is always ready to go within 30-45 seconds. The next night after my first one, I just started it up and it was ready in 30 seconds. No mess, no fuss - no matches, pipes etc.

Notwithstanding the health benefits, the main difference in usage between smoking a joint, pipe or bong and using a PAX is that you can't really pass the PAX around. You could share it with 2 people but more doesn't work, because multiple people drawing on it continually would cool the heater down faster than it could keep optimal and that would affect the vaporization.

The smell is minimal but is very different from burning weed. It kind of smells like popcorn. Also there is a very distinct taste that vapor people know about. After a few minutes or so the smell dissipates completely. Using it outside produces nothing that indicates it's weed - its actually hard to smell anything - unlike burning weed. Neighbors smelling something funny is now a thing of the past.

The social impact: If this PAX or PAX-like vaporizer type becomes common, the tradition of 'passing it around', may be a thing of the past.

Conclusion: I am totally impressed with the PAX. For me, this has completely changed the way I get high. There is absolutely no going back. Think of the iPod revolution (I never went back to records/cds - in fact I threw them all out).

And therein lies my one and only criticism. It is so flipping easy to use that one can be continually tempted; the PAX makes it just that easy. I think it actually talked to me yesterday morning as I was leaving. I swear I could hear it saying "Daddy, aren't I coming?"..........

This is the cat's ass baby. You gotta get one.

I'm in Australia and really interested in getting one of these. Emailed Ploom last week to ask when it would be available here and it doesn't seem the power voltage is the reason for the hold up. They replied with;

"Thanks for the interest. We fully support ditching combustion in favor of vaporization! Unfortunately, we simply are unable ship overseas due to permits and customs etc., but are working on getting Pax to you as soon as possible. Hang in there, it will definitely be worth the wait!"

Anyone have any idea what permits etc. they would need?

Not sure I can handle an indefinite wait - might have to look at a mail forwarding service and buy a voltage converter!

Love your write up.... And funny but I too was thinking the same think as you.,, With my Pax and Puffit it is so Damn easy to use I have already found myself medicating more then I use to... In the past I was a lazy ass.. Oh I got to get the bong out and set it up.. Oh I got to roll a few, or even oh I got to get my PD or Da Budda out and unpack it and set it all up... Not anymore...

Love my Puffit but want the Pax for home use.

The Onyx (black) Pax is ready for shipping from both VW and Ploom, when I chatted with Ploom yesterday they said they need to update their website. The other two colors are not a available until about Aug 15 along with all the accessories.

Update, just received my pax, I'm giving it a full charge and can't wait to test it out with some girl scout cookies :) yum

can you cite a source that says "new" lithium-ion batteries (same chemistry at work..) won't degrade from heat and aren't susceptible to any damage due to heat? i'm not saying there aren't plenty of devices that heat up with batteries. i'm merely asking the question if there is concern over battery life and safety. you don't think this is AT ALL a concern? great. then i have your opinion, i'd love to see facts supporting said opinion to quell any concern. i've tried researching this as if heat + batteries = bad is a "superstition" and find nothing to support your viewpoint.

Heat is bad for batteries. It speeds oxidation which is the #1 killer of batteries. People often think its heat that kills batteries - negative, heat speeds oxidation very rapidly and that's what kills batteries. if you used your battery in a o2 free room for it's life, you would get battery lifetimes toward the decade mark no matter how hot it got. (relative to a derivative of the tensile strength of the cell package - i.e. foil or mylar or ect...) theoretically you should be able to heat a battery up to 1347.0 °C (1620.15 K, 2456.6 °F) without any issues so long as there is no oxygen in the air and the lithium holding cell can handle the pressure heh heh heh. this is the boiling point of lithium.

You can look up articles about lithium nano tube battery technology in the Christian Science Monitor and ASA publications. Other scientists have also done research on the issue of "heat" in the same publications.

So I have decided on doing a new post saying I decided i would give it a shot and I did! Pretty much you need the down time between hits! My unit gets hot even when it is in the sleep mode so maybe my unit is faulty I dont know. So if you take your time with this unit it does work good but if you are looking for huge hits then smoke a bong or a blunt but for single use this works good. Also I say single use becasue that other person you will need to teach them the tips and tricks of the PAX!

Sorry for the first post I did I just was stressed paying that much and not having it work right away for me but everything takes time.

So all in all iM keeping the pax it is a good unit for one person you do need down time between hits or the unit gets hot and also when I said the mouth piece would get super hot as well ... I was pulling to fast on the PAX. {slow fish pulls}

So again sorry for the hate in the first post I did and yeah my bad.

Welcome back.. And no need for sorry.. We all have our likes and dislikes.. You have your right to like what you like.

So far I am loving my Pax.. It does sometimes get hot to my lips but what I do is either

1.. Shut if off for 5 min
2. curl my lips like an old person with no teeth(only why I know how to describe it)
3. Something I just tired last night (Warning Vape Porn) take the mouth piece all the way into your mouth to were your lips are down at the bottom of the mount piece.. Like when my lady gives me deep throat... :o

I found just pulling in slow works with no warming on the lips and then when you are done click it off and wait a few then click back on works good! Still dont know why the unit still heats the oven when in sleep mode? Anyone know why?

ilovebOObs

can i stick my male joint in there?
sending my pax in for a replacement for the button problem, other then that still loving my pax. did a herb/hash/oil bowl last night, friggin rocked my world. hahha

The sleep mode sets the unit to a lower temp as to not vape your material when not in use, but it is also there to conserve battery. It takes way more power to warm up the oven to operating temp from off then from the sleep mode temp.

Anyone know the temp sleep mode is set at?

Also, people with new, unused units, can you guys do the off-gassing test. Heat up to high for like 5 minutes empty, take a led flashlight and go to a dark room. Take the oven off and angle the light so its only hitting anything coming out of the oven. Can you see anything?
