Only thing I wish about the Pax is that Bloom was on here and posting and talking to us... Anyone know why they are not?

Update: I just got a call from VapeWorld a couple of mins ago. My new Pax will be here tomorrow. I can't wait.

The level of customer service at VapeWorld is staggering. It's my first time buying from them, but it won't be the last. I've talked to two employees, and both of them have been pleasant, eager, helpful, and informed. Hooray for a vape- centric management style!

OH NO!!! Third day with PAX and I noticed a lil defect in mine!

DSCF0360.jpg

There is a little crack in the plastic where the magnet makes contact(red line). The crack is starting to get bigger as I cleaned it and noticed it today, you can see it in the pic, looks like a lil white hair coming from the top of the rounded part.

Gonna give VapeWorld a call(got it from them). Hope they're not to busy with new orders!

Love VapeWorld Ellen already got me my RMA# and should have my new unit sometime next week. Now for a PAXless weekend:cry:

Hi im a long time fc lurker and this thread made me post for the first time too. Is the pax that good for big hits compared to the solo? Because with amazon prices I could get the solo+mflb for the same price as the pax. Which is more worth it in your opinion?

Hey- I can confirm that The Pax is awesome for big hits. I was pulling nice clouds on medium setting..switched it to high...even nicer.

lithium batteries do not require cool down to recharge. heat from lithium batts are created by positive ions being transferred to empty cells that "change" the polarity of the ion to negative via the lost electrons used by whatever device the batt is powering.

Many in the industry feel it is more beneficial to charge a lithium battery as soon as it is depleted. Lab tests show that a battery charged immediately after heavy use actually cools down faster than a battery left in ambient temps. The reason being, those volatile ions that were forced to become negative are now allowed to become positive again and thus reduces the cause of battery heat (volatile negative ions) is taken away and thus the battery cools down faster.

With the ago old notion of keeping batteries cool, the above simply continues this logic in an attempt to prolong battery cell life.

I work on this stuff in a university research grant (lab assistant). I might not be the head honcho there but I learn a hell of a lot about batteries.

i think you need to ask the head honcho on this one boss. otherwise please cite what you are saying. i've searched and can't find anything to substantiate that heat is not a concern with lithium-ion batteries. maybe your lab work is with some special heat-loving batteries.

lithium-ion batteries both degrade more quickly and are a risk to cell destruction (combustion in extreme cases) when exposed to heat. this is why electronics manufactures implement overheat protection! hence my curiosity whether ploom has any such safety measures. Here is some info: http://prowiki.isc.upenn.edu/wiki/Lithium_ion_batteries
"There are a number of different reasons that a Li-Ion battery can fail, but the most common is exposure to extreme heat. If a battery is allowed to sit in extreme heat, such as a hot car, or in a computer under heavy use on an insulating surface, the likelihood of failure is increased, especially if the battery is used before it has an opportunity to cool off."

I think it's maybe because they've defined themselves as serving the tobacco market. Reading between the lines I wonder if it's been something to do with securing future investment- I read an article with the owners somewhere online where they were speaking of the difficulty they experienced in getting investment even for a tobacco vaporizer. If I remember correctly I think the article said that lots of the investors they approached have ethical investment policies that prevented them investing in anything smoking/tobacco related- I'd imagine these policies or similar stricter ones extend to marijuana paraphenalia. If they're guys thinking of this for future expansion then that might be why keep their distance from direct participation in the MJ scene and present their device distinctly for tobacco (despite the fact it's obviously in our vape shops rather than the tobacconists)

weird you just mentioned that, just a minute ago i was using my pax and i shook it to check the battery life, the green light flashed once like it was telling me the battery status then it changed to orange like i had taken out the mouth piece. simply poking the mouthpiece downward fixed the issue, and it hasn't happened again since (i've tried a few times to make it happen again).
Looks like you may have turned on the party mode that was mentioned earlier?

To those having the issue with colors and the unit acting up, further diag. with ploom tech support has deemed it to be a defective mouth piece spring. Only prevents use/ gives issues some of the time. Now the mouth pieces don't come in for 2 weeks, so they are offering an replacement should I chose not to wait for the mouth pieces to come in. Just though you guys should know.

I'll probably wait, as I can deal with it for the most part, and the pax kicks so much ass I couldnt imagine living without it again lol.

thanks for the info, its not really a big issue at all for me either. once the unit begins turning its self on when i don't want it to i'll begin to worry :D

edit: also, only did it one time for me, and it barely even took touching the mouth piece to correct it. i don't think mine is defective, however i guess i'll have to see what happens into the future.

Well lets consider the fact that many portable vapes have a ~400 degree Fahrenheit element, if not adjacent to the power cells than very close near by. For example, the arizer solo, where the heater is literally right on top of the battery pack. The fact that these designs have worked successfully for years without one noted pack venting or random failure of the battery packs is testament to how well Li-Ion batteries can handle heat. That's not the only one either, davinci, inhalater and pretty much every other one I can think of get their batteries extremely hot.

Protection circuits exist because the battery itself becomes the heating element in the event of a short circuit or overcharge, and get much hotter than the ones in our vaporizers. That's when the explosions and damage happens. Sub knows what he's talking about, and the site your quoting from has this at the top:

"Important note: this page may contain information which is outdated or obsolete."

There has been a lot of headway made in Li-Ion technology over the past few years.

By all means people can wait to charge their unit whenever they want to if they think it's going to make their unit work better. But it's not. These batteries are extremely flexible and you can charge them right after you turn the unit off if you wanted too. Most battery superstitions just come because people apply old battery chemistry techniques to new ones because they don't realize there is a difference. I still meet people who tell me I need to charge a new gadget I get for 6 hours or something before I use it or I'll ruin the battery.

There is a party mode... if you get a bunch of weird flashing lights on your unit... you probably activated party mode.

For those of you who don't want a spoiler then don't watch this video...

Here what it looks like, and how to activate it:

It might be strange the first time, but your unit is not acting up. I asked them about the battery life if party mode is activated. They said it does not change the longevity of the device.

It does not change anything about the settings or anything... just a little fun Easter egg.

can you cite a source that says "new" lithium-ion batteries (same chemistry at work..) won't degrade from heat and aren't susceptible to any damage due to heat? i'm not saying there aren't plenty of devices that heat up with batteries. i'm merely asking the question if there is concern over battery life and safety. you don't think this is AT ALL a concern? great. then i have your opinion, i'd love to see facts supporting said opinion to quell any concern. i've tried researching this as if heat + batteries = bad is a "superstition" and find nothing to support your viewpoint.

My god are you my college teacher or something? My cited source is the fact that we are using batteries in high temp situations since far before the pax came out and they are working just fine. It's up to you how much thats worth...

Cool. I did watch the vid SliM put up. Just curious if anyone has had to clean it yet? I'm only a few days in...Thinking I might give it a clean after tonight.

Nice! I'm jealous, my tracking number doesn't seem to want to work yet..

edit: I chose the free shipping, that must be why

Tracking number acquired. Maybe if I go to the FedEx site and just keep hitting refresh it'll get here sooner? Maybe I'll sleep on the front porch tonight...

VW is shipping all the Pax orders overnight for free. If it shipped today you won't have it until Monday because FedEx doesn't deliver on Saturdays. When I placed my order I told them I want it tomorrow and I had to pay $17 for FedEx Saturday delivery.
