Am I high or just oxygen deprived? :0)

Any folks out there experience this, especially as a newbies with any new gadgets, where you've been puffing and tugging away at some piece, say the mflb or tv or both, trying to get a decent hit without burning it and you just aren't able to grab ahold of it. Other times you've had the knack. But today you are vape retarded. And you feel kind of light-headed, probably high..but you wonder how much different you would feel had you simply held your breath.

The thought has occurred to me from time to time, but as a one breath, how many laps can you do
in the pool champion, I know that the highs are much different eventhough they can be combined to make your ass sit down and try not to black out!

Holding your breath gives you a quick and brief head rush. The weed head rush is slower but much
longer lasting. Combined, as i said, they can be briefly debilitating.

I'm a flute player, so I've experienced oxygen deprivation quite a lot of times, and definitely the feeling is really different from just being "high". I think people associate the two because, well, it happens a lot while smoking/vaping, but single handed I would say it is more of an uneasy-i-feel-weird sensation than the rather pleasant effect of Miss MJ.

One day I took a huge hit with a water pipe and hold it way to long while searching for a mirror to see the vapor cloud (still sitting down). About 30 secs -without luck- later I got up off the chair to use the bathroom mirror, and damn, I simply colapsed; everything went black and I fell right of to the ground. Seconds later I was like "WTF just happened" D:

I've long felt that oxygen deprivation is at the heart of the "cough to get off" nonsense.

I wrote my above post at like 6AM this morning. Since then, my situation has improved with both the TV and the MLFB, though the MLFB continues to be tricky to master. It's funny, when you aren't getting it, you oversuck (not a word I know) which, in general, is exactly what you are not supposed to do. Maybe my problem is that I have 2 vapes that work in completely opposite ways. As a beginner, this may be throwing me off. The TV ends up being more forgiving though.. a long heat up with a slow, steadily increasing pull, letting go before the final pull... is my method.

Try reading Usage & Technique in the MFLB entry in Vaporpedia, if you haven't already.

Thanks, I have check it a bit. It's a tome. So, it will take some more quality time with that page and my MFLB. I have got some skills that I'm able to use to some degree (fish lips anyone?). I've definitely caught the bug. I just want more consistency.

Also, I've noted that eq and mflb combo used by other old hand vapists.

So all this time I've been wasting money when all I needed to do is hold my breath?

Its offensive to suggest that being deprived of oxygen is at all similar to being high on pot.

I've always believed the reason lots of people arent high until they cough is because of the composition of the membranes absorbing the active ingredients. Like spray painting a closed accordion, open it up and see all the gaps you missed. stretch your lungs and you expose new surface area

Dont forget the old saying "if you have to ask yourself if you're high, you're not"

No, holding your breath doesn't make you high. It does eventually result in oxygen deprivation which in turn has symptoms that people can confuse with being high, such as dizziness.

I don't know when this "cough to get off" idea surfaced, but I do know that when I started back in the 60s and through the 70s, nobody I knew ever talked about this. We all hated coughing, we all avoided it as much as we could, and we all got pretty high. In fact coughing was the sign of a noob and usually got you ridiculed.

I'm not sure how coughing is supposed to allow the lungs absorb more. Coughing is a reflex that is meant to clear the lungs. When you cough, you expel whatever is in there in a hurry. Tough to absorb THC that you just coughed out. If you can point me to the science that supports the idea of expanding lung membranes to absorb more, I'd love to see it. Whenever I tried to do research on this, all I ever found was stoners arguing over whether it was true or not.

My science is just homeboy hearsay honestly, never put much stock into it, but since turning to vaping,I actually like to have one good harsh hit that i can't hold in, to start things off right. The cough comes with that, as does the draining of my sinuses and often a healthy feeling sweat.

With the other common argument, of whether holding your hit is a waste of time or not, and whether or not you exhale active ingredients, all I know you dont have to hold in stronger samples longer to get higher , which kinda leans towards proving that our lungs dont need any help absorbing more cannabinoids. e.i. if danker weed absorbs at the same rate as cheapo weed, then would a 40% thc strain have any trouble fulling absorbing in the same time frame? it shouldnt i guess

Back in the ole combustion days, coughing was like exhaling razor blades! :o We would hold that hit
and pray that we could handle it.

Vapour is easier to hold in if the temps are low; as the temps go up so does the harshness and tendency
to cough. The vapour cough is mild compared to the combustion cough. IMO :2c:

I have a tendency or habit of holding each pull for at least 4 seconds often longer.
My buddy with the volcano always tells me to stop holding my hits, but some habits are hard to break. :ko:
