I just loaded it and dumped it onto my scale and it came to .11g. That is a normal load for me.

I prefer to run it at 360F, as hotter than that seems to irritate my throat.

Is in so far as quantity, I was wondering if you leave the grind loose in the chamber or pack it down & load more

I've never packed the bowl. Besides being unnecessary IMO, it would be a pain to do since the flip up top doesn't give you a clear shot down the bowl to give it a good packing.

I purchased my DV about 3 weeks ago and absolutely hate it! This thing is a toy; the vapor is weak and thin, the temp gauge is a joke and not even close to accurate. Also, why do i see vapor coming out of places that vapor shouldn't be coming out of. From a design standpoint, I couldn't think of a more cumbersome device. JMHO folks!

I'd say there's something wrong with your unit... Found that elsewhere on the internet I dunno exactly who's video that is, but that is far from what I'd call weak vapor.

Anyways, my DV didn't arrive on Friday, have yet to have the delivery man come by today but I haven't been downstairs to check for a delivery notice since noon, hopefully he comes today!

Sorry for the double post, but it came today! Was very, very excited, plugged it in and did a couple burn off runs.

The first run, I had a very thick, noticeable vapor coming off the unit, it was almost gone after the second one, but it's still there now. I was talking to the guy at my LHS about it (they just got it in there too), and the mystery vapor and he said it was likely just production fumes since it was pretty much gone after the second burnoff and said I shouldn't worry about it and that it'd probably go away.

What do you guys think? Did anyone else have this on the first couple burn offs but it went away? I would be more concerned but it pretty much stopped after the burn offs.

my unit burns off vapor past 250 and will not go away no matter how much I 'burn it away' in my view this vape was not ready for production.

So finally we get some type of vague recognition from the Manufacturer.

While there have been some instances of people complaining of mysterious vapors, the amount of complaints to units sold on the market are overall, very small.

Its a known fact that only a small percentage of Customers will raise awareness to a problem and the vast majority will literally "bite the bullet".

MCFunkyJ, the Davinci was thoroughly tested and there were no problems in the test phase. Of course we'll continue to tweak and change some things. It's all about listening to customer input. We can't make every change suggested, but we do take all feedback seriously and want nothing more than to be the best portable vaporizer on the market.
To "tweak and change" something would indicate a problem in the first place.

We hate the fact that even one unit has a problem, but in manufacturing something like the DaVinci, there will always be problems.

That's reassuring!

every once in awhile something might slip through, but I think that with a close-knit community like FC, views can get distorted and let's say 10 users on this forum are owners and 1 has a problem. That's 10% with a problem, which is bad, but if that 1 problem is relegated to all of the units out there (there are currently over 5000 units on the street), overall, it's a small number. Overall, we're at the 1% mark on returns and we're proud of that mark. It's not easy when dealing with a unit such as ours.

What might slipped through? And to respond to the distorted views by a Close-knit community. I find that offensive as I've just joined FC to be apart of the discussions and because I had questions that needed answers. I would actually consider these guys more experts than anyone else. Just because you got 5K units on the street doesn't mean that's the amount of customers. And "if that 1 problem is relegated to all of the units out there" your gonna have a bunch of pissed off custies!

We constantly work on improving all facets of our company from product, to service and even to the packaging materials.

If ain't broke don't fix it! What is it that your improving in the product exactly? Also why change the "packaging materials"? I was reading a possibility that the foam may of been the cause of the Mystery Vape.

I'm very meticulous about what I put in my body, especially my lungs. I was on the verge of getting this device until I started seeing YouTube vid's and reading about this Mystery Vape issue. This issue has been on unopened units, used and cleaned ones as well. I haven't done the math to see how many but I know its enough for me to hold off and wait for something else that will meet my needs.

I also want to point out that some of the newly joined members posts on this Mystery Vape subject lead me to believe that their Davinci reps impersonating customers. Main reason leading me to that conclusion is because the wording is similar. I think some IP's need to be ran!

mod note: Thanks for telling us how to do our job here at FC, but since we've already uncovered some competition on this thread pretending to be 'just plain members', I'm pretty sure DaVinci knows that we can spot obvious frauds. Now that you've expressed your opinion on this product and company, you can move on to something that meets all your qualifications.

Its a known fact that only a small percentage of Customers will raise awareness to a problem and the vast majority will literally "bite the bullet".

The problem here is that we only have 5-6 instances or so of people actually doing the test properly (telling it the unit is fresh out of the box and unused.) We have just as many (probably more) people that ran the same test and found nothing. Not to mention at least 1 of said people that 'did' see mystery vapor was in fact a competitor.

To "tweak and change" something would indicate a problem in the first place.

No one ever claimed the DV is a perfect device, that would be ludicrous. Minor over sites such as the latch making it difficult to clean was what he was referring to.

You should already have enough proof to know that is an incorrect allegation. Unfortunately, you're showing an extreme bias and only seeing the side you want to see. There are plenty of members on this thread defending the DV, members old and new.

If you actually read this thread, you would have an idea of what to expect for version 2. A detachable latching hinge to make the unit easier for cleaning, possibly the removal of the storage department, etc. Also, I highly doubt packaging materials is causing off-gassing from the chamber, that doesn't make sense at all to me. I suspect they just don't want the units having a 'new shoe' type smell directly out of the box.

So you admit to not being really sure of the suspected amount of units having this issue. Let me ask you something. Out of all of them, did you make different considerations for the (quite a few amount) of people saying they were getting the off-gassing but after the 2nd or 3rd 'burn in' run it was almost all gone vs. the people that straight out said it was off-gassing and just disregarded the unit completely after that? I doubt you did, this statement only confirms the bias I believed you were holding.

I INSIST my IP is checked and it is confirmed on this thread that I am NOT a DV rep. Just someone that loves their unit, and maybe I just got extremely lucky and got a unit with zero issues that others have been experiencing. Doesn't really matter to me, because I am not an unsatisfied costumer.

Since I've used two DV's with no issues at all, and heard from several other buyers who have had no problems, your view, which seems to say that your problem is representative of all units, is just plain in error, and I'd suggest contacting the company for resolution of your problem.

First of all, even if your IP address says you're posting from Siberia, that doesn't guarantee anything. Leave it to us to spot people who have an agenda.

As for mcfunkyj, he's also stated his opinion and made it clear that the DV isn't for him, so I don't expect to see a response. You've both made your points and if you'd like to continue the discussion, please use PM/Conversation to do so.

thanks for the suggestion, I have contacted the retailer I bought through and have returned my unit. I do believe it could just be mine thats defective. But the fact I did buy one for a friend saw the gas, and returned, maybe it was a used unit being sold as a new, and was ABV inside. Or maybe i'm just that unlucky. Never the less I returned. So at last I returned my own personal white unit., along with a detailed letter, a flash light, and a link to this thread. Hoping they will be providing me with a replacement that is up to par. If it is, I might be compelled to give another impression and disregard previous posts warning about an issue, that, no matter how you look at it, could be a possible hazadard to health. You never know with these things.. since as I'm sure over time particulates and dust will fall down and also into the air holes, and will settle and possibly combust, but it could be those wires near the heating chamber, as shown in a picture earlier in this thread of a tear down. At any rate i'm excited to know the decision of my exchange and and a new unit. Thanks for understanding my situation! :peace:

on another note, if anyone has the white unit, has anyone noticed browning around the chamber?

Alright so just to follow up, I've had it two days now.

The first day before use I ran a few burn in runs, saw some VERY noticeable mystery vapor off an empty, unused chamber, which significantly diminished after the 3 burn in runs. After this, I said fuck it, popped some herb in the chamber, and got veeeeryyyy lifted. It's amazing how big of an improvement this is over my MFLB.

I've gone through about 6 or 7 bowls now, and this morning ran another 4 burn off runs, and again, at the end of it, still some slight vapor coming out. Now I plan to give everything an ISO wipedown/wash and go from there.

Which brings me to my question: How exactly do you guys go about cleaning this thing (specifically the straw)?

I'm assuming I take off the straw, and screw off the bottom part of the top chamber, take out screens, and wipe down the top and bottom chambers with a q-tip dipped in ISO, then let the screens and bottom part of the top chamber soak in ISO. But apart from that, what do I do with the straw? Given that it's plastic, cloth AND metal, I really have no clue. Should I just throw it in the bowl with the metal bits and let it soak?

And after everything is done and I put it back together I'm assuming run it at a high temp to let any remaining ISO evaporate?

sektr,

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
I guess I am not on the cleaning crew. I soak the top screen in the cap of iso bottle and still wipe it with the q-tip. I don't remove any screens since I am sure I won't be able to get them back in. I blow through the straw and have not had an resistance so left it alone. I do try to get the q-tip in as far as I can shove it but haven't even bothered with a pipe cleaner yet and I have used this thing daily since I got it months and months back. The chamber I just use a few q-tips since I clean it about every 4 or so bowls. It gets dirty but not clogged up. The only screen that clogs IMO is that top inside one so if you are not a cleaner like me and don't care about the smell in warm up that is the only one that needs to be done a lot.

Feel free to correct me if I am totally or even partly wrong.

I've just finished reading this thread, and ordering a unit to try out so I guess that describes my 'take' on a lot of this. I see a lot of folks I know and who's opinion I trust supporting it, but was (and I guess still am) concerned about potential problems.

I'm very meticulous about what I put in my body, especially my lungs.

Statements like the one above, even in the midst of some otherwise questionable stuff, catch my attention. They speak to a sincere guy with serious issues. Then I noticed the fellow's sig:

Papers: aLedinha, Bambu Hemp

Blunts: Backwoods, Dutch Masters

So, here we have a health nut that not only blazes, but smokes tobacco lecturing me on being careful about what I might be vaping in?

I'm sorry, but that amuses me.

I'm thinking now that what I at first took to be all too typical rude and confrontational prose really fits into a pattern. I just can't bring myself to take him seriously (something I assume he didn't intend), it's surely not the way this fellow would wish to be treated. I don't think he's looking for answers or trying to help others as much as just making trouble I guess. Too bad.

Thanks to all who honestly post their experiences and opinions for our collective benefit. You've helped me decide to try out what seems to be 'an electric, adjustable temperature, Iolite'. I'm looking forward to getting mine and forming some first hand opinions worth sharing.

OF I am really glad you are joining us in getting one of these devices. I trust your methodical approach to your testing with products. Will you be doing the off-gassing testing before you run anything through the device? I am extremely interested in your findings on that issue.

I tend to agree with you. I find it funny when people talk about caring about what they put in their body and being smokers. It is like poeple that go vegan for health reasons and lecture me on the benefits of being vegan while chain smoking American Spirits in my face.:rofl:

I have been pretty impressed with the performance of my DaVinci. I have not experienced any of the issues others describe. I am so interested to see how your experience compares.

Thanks for the welcome and vote of confidence. I hope to live up to both. One thing sure, I'm not likely to be all too shy about sharing what I find.....

Yes, off gassing is on the list of things to look into, but as others have said that so often becomes subjective...not a strong suit of mine. As you point out, I tend to the nerd end of things, too much science for too long I guess. Too late to change now, for sure.

In a way it's too bad there have been posters playing us for fools both ways, I for one like to trust folks initially. However, IMO it does get us to do a very important thing....question the source of your 'facts'.

Now, to figure out a way to amuse myself until my new toy shows up. Any suggestions?

Thanks again.

OF,
I, too am glad you will be trying this unit out. I respect your even-handed (I almost said "level-headed", but I caught myself) approach to vaporizer evaluation.

Since you say you've read the entire thread, I suppose you have seen that I have mixed feelings about this vaporizer. I did experience some of the mystery vapors (I actually exhaled the buggers :uhoh: ) during the initial burn-in cycles that I did prior to loading the unit. However since I do much worse things to my body on a daily basis - yeah, I still can't kick the cigs - the mystery vapors didn't really bother me and I soldiered on and began using it.

The initial tennis shoe smell is totally gone now from my DV I'm happy to report. Taste is not quite as good as some other portable vaporizers, but I didn't buy it for taste; I bought it to be a rugged portable that produces reliable vapor with little fuss.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts.

Thanks, but please watch that 'even handed' stuff, that kind of a label can stick on a guy you know.....

Damn straight I caught your stuff. One of the perspectives I trust....sad as that reflects on both of us. In fact it was your 'tennis shoe smell' comment that got me to thinking this was a multi faceted deal.

I also agree, what you're happy with is a personal thing. Try as we might, we all end up comparing such gear to others we know. I'm not expecting it to perform like a T1 taste wise, even at the Evolution level. My standard will probably be the Iolite (which I like despite what many see as serious faults). I think it might be an 'electric Iolite' in much the same way T1 and Evolution are VG like in terms of how they work.

I also got to wondering if it would do as well with a 'spiked load' (say 50 or so mg of bubble in with 125mg of bud) like I'm so fond of with the Iolite. Even if it doesn't I see great potential with at least one friend who can't deal with the Butane but does seem to keep his cell phone charged.....

Thanks again, but yes, I did note your (as usual excellent) input....my spending yet more money on hardware I could be buying false drugs with is your fault. Again. Some day I'll get even with you for that. Maybe.

I'm not so sure you should put a lot of your hard earned money on that......

Like I said, lots of this stuff doesn't reflect very well on either of us. I've also got a couple Iolites, even more MFLBs and a couple Vapmen (I think that's the correct spelling when you have a Vapman and bjy another?) around here real handy..... I'm sure you don't really want to open that closet up, do you?

Come to think of it, maybe it's 'a pair of Vapersons?

OF what colour unit did you get?

Black. I guess I didn't buy into the 'gray is better' idea enough to want to end up with that color? Although the Iolite I use most is white..... But that's just a label, not the whole unit.

curious because on my personal white unit, had browning around the heating chamber. Not so sure if it's visible on the black and grey units. Just something to think about, cheers

Hi folks, now i feel like goldielocks, returned my DV to the store I purchased it from because I was not getting much vapor. Picked up a new unit & it combusted at any temp, the abv was black as tar. Picked up another new unit, which by the way came in a box that wouldn't close completely. I am getting a whole lot of smoke, not sure if it's vapor. My wife said it was like smoking a j. Is this the way it should be? I contacted Karma, but they never acknowledged me. So far I hate this thing, piece of junk

3 bad units in a row? With that kind of luck, I wouldn't be booking any flights soon.

Are you sure the store is selling legit units? Seems like pretty long odds to have 3 units fail like that.

Can you post a pic or video of the unit?
