From previous posts it seems as though the grey model is alright. Does anyone have a gray model that off gasses? And do orders through amazon void warranty?

Well so as to not sound like the "the end is near" person, this will be the last time I post about this.

All I'll add, for anyone who cares to look, is that this vapor is VERY subtle to see and requires a bright flashlight, calm air current, and setting the unit to over 400.
If you're just "eyeballing" it, between bowl hits, I doubt you'd see anything.
Following the process above I'm able to see the vapor every time, and all the time. At no point does it subside. So this is not just (veg) matter (or machine oil) burning off. Something else is.

It may not bother some that these things appear to be shedding some sort of mystery vapor under high heat. It, however, bothers me so I'm sharing my experience and process to recreate the conditions for yourself. This is the second unit I've had that did this. The chances of two random units having identical "one-off" defects, in my mind, is minuscule.
If that's not a big deal to you, then happy vaping.
Hey there, Geo.
I have to respectfully disagree. If you'd read this whole thread, you should have read that plenty of people that DID preform this test and found nothing. No mystery vapor or 'off' taste. I was one of them. I even took it to an extreme, I was very upset as my unit was on it's way when I came across anything about the DV off gassing. I won't get into everything I personally did to make sure my unit wasn't doing this, but if you really care you can go back and read my posts on it.
You seem to have a fallacy in your argument about two units having the same defect. I don't what to come off sounding pretentious and apologize if that's how it sounds. But you can't make the assumption that all these units are off gassing since you've had two that had the same problem. If anything, you can only question how common of an issue this is. In all likely hood, it may be very common, but still know that there are units functioning exactly as promised by Da Vinci.
Now, I don't know how I really feel about any of the units having a problem like this... But I can hardly care since I already own mine and have zero issues with it.
Other issues people have with theirs that I have not experienced at all include:
-Unit getting too hot to hold (I can put my hands on the vent and it won't come close to burning me!)
-Buzzing while battery is charging (my is silent as can be!)
-Brushes melting while inside a in use unit. (burned to ~420 with brush in there before)
-Unit becoming hard to draw from (I am very proactive at cleaning mine, probably why)
-Shit charge (I can get ~9 sessions with mine, from what I'm told that holds up against the solo)
-Odd taste from vapor (I posted earlier I only have a DV and an iolite for vaporizers but I have a lot of experience with vaporizers, so I would be able to taste anomalies)
-Unit becoming deformed from use (Solid as the day I bought it)

As you can see, my unit is exactly what the DV is suppose to be. And I hope all these issues aren't something majority of people experience, but I'm happy either way because this thing is so perfect for me.

I hope your issues get resolved.

Edit whore back in action, didn't want to double post, sorry.

I actually have a grey Da Vinci. I remember reading that but not sure if that was an official post.
As for the amazon order, I believe their are vendors on there that won't void the warranty, but there are a lot that will void it. You should see something like "official DV vendor" in the description, probably something about the 2 year warranty, also.

I'm uncertain if the gray ones are any better (mine is black).
If you do decide to buy one, I'd avoid amazon. There were/are some shady sellers who are violating DVs distribution model and making it pretty difficult for DV to honor warranties.
For their sake, and your protection, I'd buy directly from DV or one of their (known) authorized distributors.
Basically if you're spending much less than 250 for it, you're probably buying from a grey market dealer.

Ok im not worried about this warranty business so much anymore, but it appears that people with grey models have not had problems SO FAR. Whoever has a gray model please report how yours has been.

There could be some strange problem with either the black material being of slightly different composition or the dye used.

I received the Davinci 3 days ago and I tested the unit for the mystery vapor while it was brand new. To my surprise I could see the vapor whenever I increased the temperature to 410F and above. The vapor isn't very easy to see, you need to put some light on it to see it properly. I also recorded the video and I can upload it if anyone wants to see it, but it's basically the same video like the one posted previously on this thread. Hope someone from Davinci's team clarifies this problem.

Edit: I have the grey model.

Well there goes that theory lol. Anything below 410 does not have that problem though? I dont think id vape that high so should that not be a worry?

Don't know if this helps at all, but I have the white one. Mine does have a slight noise when I am charging it, but once I turn on the TV I can't even notice. I never had an issue with weird tastes, although when I first got it, it did have that robot "fart" smell, if that is what you guys call it. Mine holds a pretty long charge, I can get some good long sessions off of a full charge. Also I am a very clumsy person, and I have dropped mine a few times and I have had no warping or dents or dings. I use it quite a bit for many herbs, and there hasn't been any warping from heat either. I have been burnt by mine either. Just my two cents.... Maybe I have missed a couple things but that is all I can think of right now that have been issues.

I have mine for about four months or so. It is black and I only see what you call off gassing when dirty. I have no issue with the battery charge. I only noticed the buzzing noise after I read it here which means it isn't loud at all. I have to put it to my ear to hear it. I do have a chip on it and I have never dropped it so there is a white speck looking small, very small chip on the black. It is hard to clean but I just use a q tip and leave it at that. As long as I can draw I am good. If it gets to dirty it needs a good cleaning or it gets harsh. I am by no means an expert since I have only started vapping a year ago so take this as a newbie review.

As far as smell it is bad. I can have it in my bag after use and someone would say to me what is that smell. I would put it along the lines of having a roach in your bag. the MFLB smells about the same with a used trench. Unlike the MFLB the davinci smells big time on warm up. There is a distinct herb smell so if you use it in your car beware. I have had people come in my car after vapping and they report no smell so that is good.

The thing I hate the most is you have to use the full session or you are wasting herb. I wish I could take a hit or two and move along and then again in 15 minutes. When I am around the house I actually just have the hole unit hanging out of my mouth by the straw and have had no issues with that. You can't get burnt on what you don't touch lol. The vent side is hot but there is plenty of other places to hold it so it isn't an issue while using but it does take long to me to cool down.

You should be contacting the company and returning it instead.

As for the vapor being "incredibly thin" and needing a flashlight to see, if that's the case then all the more reason to claim a defective unit. Thin vapor from this, unless you're comparing to a big hitting home vape, ain't what I get. Certainly it's thin at times, as any vape is, especially one with such a small herb chamber. But I've been impressed with some of the eye watering hits I've gotten with this vape.

as far as i can tell, my unit works exactly to spec just like everybody else's, so i doubt a return would do anything.
Either the vape isn't suited to regular use above 400 F (can't imagine needing to go that high, since my ABV is quite dark at 385), or you've got a bad unit. Why you wouldn't contact the company and complain about your issue is beyond my understanding. Throwing away this kind of money without an effort to get it resolved is crazy.

I've been using various portables for about 6 yrs. now, and all things considered, the DV is the most satisfying model I've used. Certainly some will perform more like a home vape, but you can't put those in your shirt pocket. Anyone not happy with this model, IMO, either has unrealistic expectations of a small stealth vape, or a unit that needs service/replacement.

on second thought, decided to follow max's advice and contact the company for a return and stop "complaining" needlessly here. thanks, please delete.

I did forget in my review that I do use this vape daily and do love it. I just wanted to address the complaints and added one of my own about not being able to take one hit. I was not disappointed about that since I had no expectations from the specs that the vape would be able to do a few hits then wait for later to finish, so therefore I was not disappointed. I got exactly what I payed for and read all the reviews on here first. I am happy with my purchase.

When I had issues I called them and they helped me right away and were very helpful. If there are issues there may be some problem with the unit itself, and they can send you a new one or fix the issue somehow... I love mine and use it all the time, and promoted it to the point that I was accused of having an ulterior motive, and I am picky about the things I use. I don't like to spend needless money, as I am sure most people don't. I know that everyone has different tastes and maybe you could look into some other vape if this isn't the one for you?

I've been stalking the forum on the new Pax vape and read the tail end of the DV discussion. I've owned this vape since it came out and I love it. I own the original Iolite and the WISPR and they've only collected dust since I bought this one. Laying out another $250 for the Pax seems somewhat unnecessary and wasteful, but it looks so cool. Plus, to charge it in 1hr and have 2hr of use with a larger bowl seems pretty solid...not to mention the smaller and less conspicuous size.

I have the greatest tip ever for those who have black DVs and have dropped them and ended up with white spots....wait for it...a black sharpie with a fine tip!!! I know it sounds basic, but I dropped my in the street and it ended up with a host of white pock marks. I almost cried. Then I came inside and whipped out a sharpie and voila!!! Almost good as new.

As far as the one hit concern, why can't you? I'm confused. I fire it up on the reg and only take a few hits and then turn it off. I would assume that if I only wanted to take one, I could do that too.

My question to the group is about cleaning the bowl and inside the unit. Any tips? I've used a q-tip with alcohol and the brush that comes with. Both do a decent job, but it seems like sooner than later I'm going to need to do a more thorough clean and possibly a screen change out(?). Help would be appreciated.

I would assume that if I only wanted to take one, I could do that too. You can but by the time the thing cools down it is ABV. I have tried to do that dump the chamber and it was brown done vaped. I wouldn't want to use the davinci that way since it would taste bad and more then likely used up what I need for meds in the cooldown. I will still point out that I didn't expect to be able to use it that way just wish I could. It is hard but I manage to use the whole chamber lol.

I've been really busy lately. I received my DaVinci about a week ago, but haven't had time to give it a try. Looking forward to putting it through its paces this evening. I'll post my impression vis a vis the other vapes I own after spending a bit of quality time with the unit.

Could you please test for the Mystery Vapor and let us your know what you think? (record a video if possible)

To test, just follow this:

I'd like to ask other davinci owners to do a little experiment.
Try running yours completely empty, and as clean as possible.
Set it to about 410-420.
Wait for it to get to temp, then set it still on a table (the vapor is more difficult to see due to air currents if it's being moved around).
Take a bright flashlight and shine it directly at the fully open loading chamber (occasionally slowly moving it back and forth for better lighting).
Mine starts a very thin wisp of white vapor about 30 seconds to a minute after reaching about 410 degrees.

Note:
It's important to not induce a lot of air current movement (by waving the flashlight back and forth quickly, for example).
Holding the flashlight steady and slowly moving it will allow the vapor, if yours is doing it, to show within a few seconds of holding the flashlight steady.

Sorry, did see your message before I used it, so didn't do the test. I had a little bit of "sneaker" taste but really quite mild. I still need a bit more time to test and gather my impressions. First take is positive, but I want to spend more time before I write up a review.

my unit has off gassing past 390~ very clear visible vapors under a flashlight. Have had it for awhile now and no amount of leaving it sitting at 430 will make it go away. I'm positive the unit it smoldering something internal. Edit: when I ordered a friend a brand new one from karma; before anything was loaded, the off gassing was occurring

Since DV isn't going to address this issue w/ the mystery vape I think I'm gonna pick up a Pax. Plus I don't really feel comfortable w/ all the switching up the design last second and all. Makes me think its janky product!

you guys are retarded and clearly cannot recognize the brilliance of an herbless vaporizer!

mcfunky...I disagree with your assessment of the last minute changes. I have yet to see a vape enter the market that didn't have at least a few revisions, and usually more, from Arizer to this new startup company. It happens all the time. The mystery vapor, however, has me running for the trees! I'm staying away from that shit.

Watch how ya talking sun sun! I don't care whether or not you agree, don't go popping off.

Should it be Vaporizing without herb or something loaded in it??

These are issues that should of arose during the testing phase and I don't wanna end up paying just to be a Guinea Pig.

I will wait for DV2 or 3 when all the Mystery Vape clears!
