I'm definitely with Makai about the particulate matter irritating your throat. That's a very strong possibility, especially if you grind your plant material very very fine (I do!). I see a lot of little particles in the water, so I can definitely say those NOT being in my throat helped tremendously!

I think I made a post on the last page about dryness/irritation and I can say I completely resolved it by just making a vapor bong with my ssv and a normal 14" bong. :)

I'm using a Phire beaker bottom bong with my surfer, guess you guys aren't reading too closely, there is ZERO particles getting through there I'm pretty confident of that.

^^^ a2medsurfer, Are you drinking liquids while vaping? Water cools the vapor down a bit, but your still sucking in hot air. Keeping hydrated is key.

When I switched to vaping I never had any problems, but my friends who try my vapes end up coughing a bunch from what I would consider a week hit.

But I'm guessing it is exactly what you think it is, a clearing out of your lungs from years of combustion. It should go away after weeks of switching.

I think it's more like years of combustion reduced the ability of the lungs to deal with the vapor (absorb and clean the residue). But yea, it'll most probably go away after a few days/weeks of not combusting anymore.

Quick question for you SSV gurus, I just received my standard whip and standard heater cover and I have a perplexing problem, the screen will not fit properly. The bubble is too big, so the screen sits in flat and still has room around the edges. My first load left tastebuds all in my mouth and then my bubbler.

Should I just send it back to the vendor and ask for a new one?

Or should I just spend a few bucks and buy some bigger screen hoping they fit the bigger bubble?

If I choose the first, then all of my current SSV screens would be able to be used, but I have to wait longer,. But if I choose the second, I'm afraid the bigger opening might have a negative effect on the vapor to air ratio.

From the little digging I've done today, the SSV screens are .625 SS, while the EQ is slightly bigger. Maybe one of them would fit?

Interesting problem... I was looking at my whip to see the bubble you refer to and didnt find it..... The screen sits right above the colored part on standard wands... Theres a groove in the wand you can feel where it sits. Sounds to me your doing everything right....maybethe screens are too small. Id say just pick some up at a LHS instead of waitng for some to be shipped.

That's what I'm referring to as the bubble, a tokin daily coined word in his changing SSV screen video. In
the same video he mentions running across a wand that a screen just wouldn't fit and I guess I've found one, :(.

So I borrowed a EQ cyclone screen from a friend (much bigger than the SSV screen) and with a bit of trimming I got it to fit. It was a pretty tight so I'm not sure I wanna go this route as I'm constantly removing/cleaning my other wand's screen

A bit of good news though, I've found by wading through this thread that my Spherical GG piece works like a standard wand, but will hold a bit more. I :love:this forum.

^^^^well im glad to hear you found an alternative that works for now. Hard to tell if its the wand thats messed up or just the wrong size screen.

I took this pic of the screens i get from 7th floor for my spherical GG wand that fit perfect, in comparison to a US penny.

Maybe that can show you if yours were too big or small, or something to compare to.

I just had a last minute thought, what if your not from u.s. and have no pennies to compare to? Lol!

ha, this is a genuine issue! USA coins are often used and it means nothing to me- I'm none the wiser. A 14mm or 18mm ground glass joint however is pretty universal :brow:

Are you kidding me? I'm penny rich, ;) .

Yeah all of my screens are exactly that size and fit my other two wands just fine, making a dome shape. I think if my screens where just a bit bigger, like the size of the penny, that it would fit perfect.

So I take it this is not a common problem? I haven't seen or found too many others with this complaint.

My screens have always been too big. By that I mean the screens always have a gap around the edge and you can spin the screens freely (regardless of whether I dome the screen or not).

I would prefer a better fit as too many bits get through. I could let a resin build up solve this issue or run it through a water piece.

Does your screen dome naturally in an effort to fit into the glass "bubble"? My screens aren't even touching the sides of the glass even when they're completely flat and have no chance to dome unless I would force one myself. But on the wands that my screens fit perfect, none of them can spin very freely, they do not move with just the force of stirring.

All of my wands let tiny little specs through, enough where I can see build-up on the GG piece that attaches to my bong. Is yours worse than that, like actual chunks of debris.

Hey guys, first post..I made my way over from GC...Im 24 years old from Ontario..I have 2 SSV's..One is a basic silver/black base and has GG..The other is the Full Blown Stone WRS edition which I just picked up this morning..It is #4 of #150 and has SGG..This thing beautiful I was blown away when I opened the bag..

The standard I will use for vaper bonging (because of the GG) and as a daily driver..The WRS is for weekends and special occasions..

I'm curious about standard vs SGG. I got a standard originally and I quite like it! There's some fresh new glass on SSV's site and some SGG pieces caught my eye. 7th floor seems to say that the SGG is a newer design, so are there big improvements or is it up to personal preference?

Preference, if you can afford to try it why not. I've tried standard and gong, it's the only reason I can conclusively say that I prefer the standard wand to gong, one day I'll try the third variant.

Someone can correct me, but my understanding is that it's the least desirable of the three. But, seeing as it's an opinion there's no way to tell.

I'm curious about standard vs SGG.

IMO, the SGG is just a combination of the GG and the Standard wand in one. You get the clean airtight connection of ground glass but with the ability to hold the wand from any angle and still make a tight connection.

The biggest plus of the standard original wand is actually the Heater Cover. It works well with any of the three wands, the standard, GG, and SGG. I actually prefer using the GG wand with my standard HC because it holds a bit less and is so much easier to keep the screen clean.

All in all, I don't really have a preference on which one to use. The hands free GG is actually quite nice to have, as I'm the only vapetender and it gets old holding the wand.

I just think its the newest of the three so there isn't as many adopters. My SGG holds quite a bit more than my standard and way more than my GG, so for bigger groups I like to use it.

I bought a volcano for that reason, also people want it to look like smoke and burn bowls too frequently

turtles,
I may pick up the SGG just for the fact that it seems to be better for multiple people. My bf is a long time toker and doesn't seem to like vapes as much, and with tolerance as high as his, my standard Wand holds too little for him and there is a tendency to brown the meds a little too much. He cant get medicated on tiny pinches of herbs like i can. Maybe the less concentrated air path and slightly larger load potential will work better for times that we use the SSV together.

If sooner get a fatty standard wand. When you say browns the herbs too much, are they burning? If not I fail to see an issue

They don't burst into flames or anything but sometimes they end up looking like instant coffee. I'm sorry, I'm kind of new to the whole thing (less than one year) but I was under the impression it was less desirable to get it to that point for some reason?

So I take it he still burns? IMO, he will never realize the benefits of a vape high until he completely gives up smoking for at least a week. Funny you mention tolerance, when I recently had to go without a vaporizer for a few days, I swear I couldn't get high from smoking (well not the same high of course). I just felt lethargic with a scratchy throat and was coughing up phlegm. Not fun.

I say vape it till you either can't stand the burnt popcorn taste, gone too far and scorched it, or if you are not getting any vape when you exhale.

Maybe the less concentrated air path and slightly larger load potential will work better for times that we use the SSV together.

I may also caution that each whip is made slightly different from the next, so I'm not sure how big your standard wand is compared to mine. I'm guessing though that the SGG is more universal in size because of the GG. If you like I could take a comparison photo with a SSV screen or something for reference.

as long as it's not burning/blackened you're good
dark brown is fine, try stirring more

Hi all! with both great excitement and disappointment I received my SSV last Monday. Excitement in the sense that, well, I'm still pumped up as hell by the thing, and I works so fucking great (no the state that it is) that I don't think I'll ever by using my LB anymore while at home (I was my first big vape, since I only had the MFLB) I also moved away from home last week, so the SSV was the perfect for an official opening for my apatrment.

...and the disappointment is because my wand (GG) arrived broken :( it was split just where the ground glass ends and the normal glass starts. This, of course, crushed all my excitement the day I got it. Good thing sometimes frustration leads to creativity, so after cursing everything because I couldn’t use the vape at all, I tried like all the ways possible to fix the wand. Tape and glue where discarted, since I'm afraid of some chemical being released, so I tried putting a screen pretty much everywhere in the wand, but it wasn't practical (no way to hold it still), I also tried letting the ground glass bowl sit on the heater and just put the rest of the wand to inhale, but the bowl got way to hot and baked after a while. And finally I broke the whole wand on desperation...

But hey! the key was on the mouthpiece! I managed to stick a cluster of screens on the narrower side of the mouthpiece, so it could be hold as a semi wand, and surprisingly it worked, and quite well! I've been able to use the SSV that way, and in fact it produces some good vapor clouds, but not as thick as I've seen on various videos. I think the main problem is that the path from the heater to the weed is to long, and it is also hard to pull once loaded, but well, it works and gets my higher than everything I've tried, so by the moment I'm happy with it while the replacement arrives. I'll post some pics later :p

And as for the replacement, I had to buy a new wand, since VapeUSA required me to send the broken piece back to get the new one sent, but I had already tear it to pieces, and also, sending it from Costa Rica back to USA will turn out way to expensive (more than the wand in question), so they kind of just gave me a $5 refund, lol.
I'm also planning on buying a standard glass wand/heater, but from their site says that you have to "see if your heater stand is perforated or the solid stainless steel". Mine seems to be steel, with 3 screws and a small metal piece holding the heater. I don't know if there is a way to tell exactly which one is mine?

And another thing... is it normal for the heater element to decrease it glow while pulling? or is it just that my improvised wandpiece is sucking to much air?

Anyway, so far I'm loving my crippled SSV. I can't imagine how much it will improve once I get a proper wand.

Cheers!
