So I'm assuming you take the pliers, pull the ring towards itself, insert on half of it, slide in the other half, and slowly release the pliers? cool :)

Most bigger outfits do not like to use USPS for shipping so the higher shipping costs for smaller items.
Just Curious as to why???

1st...
Since in the Rural Route areas, in EVERY State, FedEx & UPS Trucks drop off packages at corresponding USPS branches, to be delivered to the homes by the USPS Rural Route carriers!

Plus, as a consumer who buys a great deal on-line, I wont buy if FedEx is the only option offered. They screw up too much. There are several places online w/ LONG threads on the subject.

So, though this may not EXACTLY be the place for it...I HAD to ask!
Thnx! ;-D

The reason they do not use USPS, is that they do not do pick up. I worked for a company that did a fair amount of shipping. UPS was the only option. They did daily pick up, supplied the shipping software, and provided shipping supplies. No need to load up multiple vehicles and pay people to get them to the PO.

EDIT* - I stand corrected. USPS does pick up.

not true -- USPS will pick up Priority Mail shipments at no charge to the shipper.

EXACTLY! You just have to call & they WILL come!

Plus, there's the Flat-Rate boxes, & services now available to buy postage in house too!
After the 2011 Christmas Delivery mess w/ UPS...??? It's why I was curious about the statement!
Thanx! Cheers `*>`[

Wow I never would have thought it could happen but it obviously did. I only hope now that my PD never needs warranty work. and i had 2-3/4 years left on the warranty. I purchased it due to the rep and warranty and now were left holding and praying it doesnt fail.

well if it does it does i still have a tt and a crz which are my main vapes anyway I use them more since the stems are compatible, the pd i use on occasion in the car.

PurpleDazed,
Guys, now that the PD is no longer in warranty and repairs might be needed, can we get part numbers on all the internals possible? Specifically I was looking for the female power jack. Any one know a part number or mfg on this? Id love to replace mine.

How do you guys clean the stem when it gets clogged with all the plant matter and resin?
I've removed the screen and circlips, and replaced them with some screen that I've just jammed in there. Airflow is now better and it doesn't seem to clog as easily. You can also adjust the size of the dose. I got the idea from somewhere in this thread, can't remember where unfortunately.

If you want to clean the stems with alcohol, don't bother with the standard isopropyl stuff from the supermarket, it's not strong enough and it leaves a lingering smell. I got some Polish Rectified Spirit from Dan Murphy's. It is quite expensive but at 95% alc/vol it does a great job of cleaning, and you can drink it too :ko:

hazy,
I've found that soaking in 91% iso does a decent job of loosening up material that's clogged in the screen, but for me, it doesn't dissolve it off completely.

So, after soaking, I leave the screens in the tube as normal and clean them with a Sonicare toothbrush. Any electric toothbrush with bristles long enough to reach the screen should suffice.

Also, I've found that the main thing that contributes to screen cloggage (<- not a word) is leaving a packed bowl in the heat port for too long. It's OK to leave it in for a minute between hits, but if you plan to take a hit or two now and save the rest for later, remove the bowl in between hits. Once the bowl is cashed, blow it out immediately while it's still warm. Never leave the stem "cooking" in the PD with used material, this clogs the screen quickly.

Please be CAREFUL...Isopropyl is HIGHLY Toxic! So rinse WELL!
I'm not sure what "Polish Rectified Spirit" is but I can recommend 151proof Rum or 190proof Grain Alcohol!!

I've a few questions too...
How can we replace that wood "Resetting" tool if needed?
If I purchase a glass stem from UD...which size for PD? 3/8 or 1/2?
AND...
What exactly should I ask for @ glass store to get my PD stems to work w/Glass Water Bong? I THINK I remember "Glass on Glass Down-stem"? What's the size again? Sorry if that's been over-asked, but I cant find it!)

Thanx ALL...Cheers `*>~[

MagicBartender,
"If I purchase a glass stem from UD...which size for PD? 3/8 or 1/2?"

The available stem sizes from UD include 3/8 and 1/4. For the PD, you'll need 3/8. I purchased a UD glass stem to go with my PD, and while it does deliver significantly better airflow than a standard PD stem, and definitely delivers vapor, I found two problems:

- The 3/8" silicone mini bowl that's supplied with the UD stem is a somewhat loose fit around my PD heat port. The PD and UD heat ports MUST be slightly different sizes, because there's discussion in the UD thread about how UD owners have to "pull and twist" their silicone stems off. When a UD stem is on my PD, you have to be careful or the stem will simply fall off. I have one of the shorter glass stems from UD, and anything longer would be even more top-heavy/precarious on my PD.

- With a UD glass stem, the packed bowl sits just above the PD heat port rather than inside of it. Therefore, the material doesn't get quite as hot (farther distance from the heat source/total loss of conduction). I find that my standard PD stems get the ABV a lot darker than a glass UD stem can. This isn't a problem with current UDs, which based on reports from UD owners run much hotter than a standard PD.

My observations should be taken with a grain of salt because A) I only own a PD and not an actual UD, and B) other PD owners have reported much greater success levels with a UD glass stem. It's possible that my PD just runs on the cooler end of the spectrum, due to material (black walnut, though I don't think that's an especially "cool" wood), line voltage (wiring in my house is ancient), etc.

Ooops...my bad! LOL
Plus, Thanx...much food for thought! I may just skip it.
A friend will be placing an order w/UD soon. So, I thought it'd be some cool personal "bling" for my PD to grab! And, if a different "variety" of hit came w/it, well...BONUS!
But, I don't need it at all. Nor do I wanna waste money. So I'll have to consider it!

Thank you VERY much for your thoughts!

How can we replace that wood "Resetting" tool if needed?

The classic 'shade tree mechanic' technique uses a socket (from a socket wrench set) of the correct size, I'd guess something like 3/4 inch?

Some guys will also use a large pin punch to 'walk it down' by small amounts around and around the ring with small taps. If you have snap ring pliers you can also collapse the ring and while loose force it down on the backside (opposite the opening) with a screwdriver while pressing down with the pliers as you release it.

In that case, it might be worthwhile to make some kind of arrangement with your friend. All of the new UDs come with a 3/8" core, so any 3/8" stem will be compatible with both the PD and the UD your friend is ordering. I haven't heard a single negative thing about using a UD glass stem with an actual UD.

Perhaps you could suggest that your friend order a glass stem with his UD, then try it to see if you like it with your PD. Or just pay for it yourself with his order, and hope that he'll be willing to buy it off you if you don't like it with your PD.

Again, other people have really enjoyed the UD stem with their PD, and Dave from UD offers exceptional customer service, so the last thing I want to do is turn a potential customer off of his products.

I don't know if Dave is using different silicone, but I got a few of his basic silicone stems about a month ago to use with my PD. The stem is a tight fit on the PD, and seems to hit even harder than the standard stem. However, I don't really like the feel of the silicone on my lips, so I only use it with my bubbler.

Having said that, I think my PD is running hotter than some others, probably because my power supply is delivering a higher voltage than the standard type. If you've got bad wiring etc, I would suggest getting a variable power supply so that you can dial up the exact voltage you want, regardless of the input voltage.

Dave uses a different size silicone bowl with the glass stems. It has thinner walls than his regular 3/8 stems and is not as tight of as the standard stems are. I use the thin walled stems with glass and the regular stems when taking direct draws.

My friend JUST got her UD. And we got our toys together for comparison last weekend. And found her stems worked in my PD, but mine did not fit in hers! (she soon wants to place an order for another for her Son when Dave's back from his trip. So other than that xtra stem for me, his sales are safe! lol & I honestly, am not thrilled w/the idea of a silicone bowl anyway.)

So we'll see! Thanks So Much! :peace:

Correct, PD stems do not fit in UDs or HIs or TTs. Not sure about CRZs. I do know that UD stems and certain HI stems fit the PD. Alan of TT/HI has a wide variety of stem designs available, so if you're looking for alternative stems for PD, he might be one person to talk to.

The PD stem does fit into the CRZ. The CRZ stem does not fit the PD.
