Obtaining Everclear?

Howdy everyone,
So my state (Washington) officially does not sell Everclear 190 proof.

Do any of you all have any ideas on how to get it here? I had wanted to try making some Green Dragon.

I had thought about having someone from another state ship it to me but I'm not sure how reliable that is or safe. Not to mention i don't know who I'd ask (Damn. I need to make more friends apparently).

Any thoughts?

I believe 151 proof. I know it should work but I'm pretty anal about following recipes.

151 will be plenty enough, master wu himself uses 151 bacardi

im in ca, we can get everclear but only 151 proof, everclear is primarily reccommended due to its lack of flavor and high proof but when it is unavailible any high proof alcohol can be readily substitued

Really? I guess I should've looked more carefully. So 151 will have no distinguishable difference?

you are lucky... only thing I can get here is denatured 70% medical cleaning alcohol for about 6 euro for only 200 ml or so, foodgrade ethanol is only available online for ridiculously high prices

I went to one liquor store here that stopped carrying it, but I am going to go to this other one that sells EVERYTHING! Even at least seven varieties of Absinthe, so I should have no problem...Used to be able to buy it anywhere when I was in high school! Strange...

i used to go across my border to get 190 since i cant get it here but honestly, use the 151. after going through many bottles of both you simply use more of 151 in your mixes to get the alcohol percentage where you want it. the content is the same its just the concentration that is different and you can make up for that with different mixtures (measures).

the 151 is plenty potent for what you are trying to do, can actually be done in less soaked longer.

not anywhere where I looked... (I needed it last year or the year before when I wanted to keep ants, and you can make a barrier from alcohol and talcum-powder where they can't climb over)
I could only get it at the pharmacy, or online(online brewerstores or a shop specialized in all kinds of stuff for in labs)
actually never thought of looking in a drugstore for it, but considering the prices at the other places I wouldn't expect to find it any cheaper there, and it wouldn't be foodgrade but medical denatured just like the pharmacy(I think we have very high taxes on drinkable alcohol here, just like on other 'bad' things like gas and tobacco)
there's probably also 90% or so available in medical alcohol, could be 70% was better for the antbarrier or maybe they were out of stock, don't really remember why I got 70%(I asked for alcohol without additives like perfume, since I wanjted the ants to fall not to die, but the alcohol I've got reeks of perfume...did work for my purpose tough)

A little off topic Djonkman BUT... You can use cinnamon as an ant barrier as well. They detest it and avoid it. They will also warn the other ants to be wary of the scary cinnamon ;) You need the ground spice not the flavoring. Can also sprinkle where you see ants trying to enter your house and it will deter them. Useless fact # 12,003 ROFL!

On topic ;) Everclear is sold here in Florida though many liquor stores choose not to carry it :(

most liquor stores in MD do carry it. taxed to the gills, but it's available.

well it was ment for keeping an antcolony indoors, as pets, to observe them, and talcumpowder+alcohol makes a paste you can apklie on vertical(or horizontal but upside down) surfaces, the alcohol quickly evaporates and leaves a barrier of talcum powder, the ants grab a grain of talcumpowder if they want to climb over it, the grain falls of and takes the ant with it, keeping them inside the enclosure without needing a lid(wich would promote mold), it keeps working for a few weeks or months(till too much grains have fallen off)

I just remembered btw, I did get my alcohol at a drugstore, not at a pharmacy(the drugstore in a town closeby), I did go to pharmacies to try to get test tubes to house the ants(the nest part, the barrier is for the part where you place the food for them and where they will deposit their waste), but no pharmacy I tried carried test tubes, so I had to order them online(I still have a shitload of test tu bes even tough the ants are dead, maybe I'll collect new queens this fall, if you know where and when to look they're really easy to get, the common lasius niger at least)

they have plans on how to build a stove-top pot-still, and while making ethanol is highly illegal, because the government WANTS those taxes, it is pretty easy, though the still that can produce 96% ABV costs a little more to build

pot still can be made for about $125, and is capable of producing 85% alcohol
column still with automatic reflux control costs about $250-$300, and can easily produce 95-96% alcohol with just the slightest taste of burnt sugar

in california I believe you can get food grade ethanol from a pharmacy, or my uncle supposedly got some for my grandfather to make limoncello out of that way.

In Illinois 151 proof everclear or rum is available at just about any liquor store. Chicago does not permit anything stronger than 151 proof. I get my 192 proof grain alcohol at the local independent grocer (Shop'n Save in Des Plaines) which has a liquor department and caters to the local Polish population.

Pure ethanol is illegal in NYS without licenses, so we go to NH or Vermont for it (Everclear 190). I think it is illegal in all the other states around NYS. I could be wrong.

Why use ethanol when you can make a glycerin tincture. Glycerin/Glycerine/Glycerol (same thing) can be found at the pharmacy. There are lots of recipes online and you can dab it under your tongue, smoke it, vap it, cook with it and eat it. Dry it out and it becomes hash.

Because ethanol, 151 or 192 proof, is a superior cleaning solvent. It dries fast, leaves no residue and does not contain any of the toxic properties of denatured (iso) alcohol.
