This is embarrassing but I cannot seem to remove the stem from the box. I've tried pulling as hard as my grip will allow.. are there any tips or tricks? I don't normally push it in that hard so I have no idea why it's jammed in there like this.

ETA and of course, 2 seconds after posting I get it out. lol

Try using a vice or get a wood screw and screw it into the stem, then use the screw to give you extra grip and pull it out (Although it will damage the stem)

Have you ever cleaned the trench?

Yes , I have , but too many accidental combustions has darkened the trench permanently .
I have openly admitted to that , it does take some experience to get it right .
Even the most experienced have combusts , even with the PA .
I'm still waiting for mflb's reply about the warranty .
Thanx stuey :)

It might remove easier after a session .
The heat will loosen up the "resin" holding in your stem at the opening :)
I've learned , if you're in to Vaping , have lots of ISO around . ( for cleaning )

Some have combusted, but IMO not many. And I think you pretty much need a PA to do it without some truly heroic efforts using batteries. Turning the PA up too high will definitely do it. Where there may be a big difference, however, might be the 'too many times' part. Most that do manage to combust by accident (I did with a box vape then later with a VG....one time each) try to never ever repeat.

Still, I'm sure MF will take care of you if it's out of spec. and not abused.

Good luck.

So far, fingers crossed (and it doesn't matter now, I just jinxed myself)... I've yet to combust with my PA and the new box. Breaking it in, like I've finally learned to, after enough people telling me how.

Dialed that PA way down, 25%, before I started in on it... and surprisingly I was getting good vapor off that level, for 3 days. I'm going through the settling in period now. I used my old box, to clear it out... to send back. Couldn't figure out why it suddenly wasn't working. Oh yeah... need to double the power, for the gunked up box, criminally abused with poorly cured bud (for vapor use).

Do you think you could unclog it a bit with the PA? Or at least clean it up some?

Typically I keep the screen pretty clean. The gunked up stuff is mostly below. However, since it broke... I haven't cleaned it. I'll do it this week, when I ship it. So yeah... its a little gunky.

Seems to me that's what the 'dry burn' is for? Only there it's controlled by the battery capacity. I suspect you can use the PA to wreck a good box this way?

I hope not. I've heated it with my PA at about 66% for over two minutes at a time. I think it would take a lot longer to do any damage, but I don't know that for certain.

I usually keep my PA at about 40% because I like the flavour and I also don't want to stress the little light any more than I have to.

That's not really what I was talking about, not 'will you' but 'can you'. Turn the dial up and let it run a few more minutes and you might wreck the box, neither of those is possible with batteries is the point I was making. The PA can be more extreme in both intensity and duration.

Hey guys n gals I scorched my load and combusted once. My first time ever. :(

There's a black mark and my next trench tastes like crap with combustion taste. Is the taste ruined forever or does it gradually get better? Is it ever as good as a new screen?

Do I just ISO on cotton swab and clean the screen?

Not a big deal, it will fade over time....just don't make a habit out of it.

Most of the taste is in the wood and will either come out or get encapsulated in condensate in short order. ISO cleaning the scree probably won't get you much, but a dry burn probably will.

Have you read the wiki page? You should.....

Haha definitely won't be doing it again! Or at least trying not to.

Yes I have actually! Do you recommend doing a ISO clean and dry burn then? How many trenches does it take to go away if you've had any exp with this? I was really enjoying the taste of my medicine until I burned it ><

I didn't find much advantage (aside from cosmetic) to ISO. It starts getting better in a few trenches IIRC a few grams down the road you can't find it with a strain change. I did it on purpose to learn the limits. I hope you remember well the rapid change of taste just before it took off? Next time you're there.......

I've had combustion twice, once on purpose.

The first time, I did it on purpose as a test. I don't even remember what I was trying to test, but I do remember the foul taste and the horror of thinking that it might be permanent. I did a couple of ISO cleanings and long burns, alternating. That got rid of the carbon on the screen but the taste was still there. Fortunately, it began to fade and was gone after about three trenches. Your experience could be different, of course, but the taste will go away and until it does, it will be a reminder not to do that again. Consider it a combustion tax.

The second time was a hot pocket. :cuss: My first LB doesn't have a pushback ring and I put it in my pocket in a hurry one day without reversing the battery. A minute or so later I felt my pocket get warm, then hot, and I could smell combustion. Oops. Same recovery drill, same bad taste punishment.

Hi.

This is my first post and I was hoping people would help me out; I know this is probably a stupid question, but I did do some searching with no helpful results, this appears to be the only Magic-Flight thread (they should consider vaporizer-brand forums), and I'm brand new to this, so... I just purchased the launch box a couple weeks ago from a smoke shop. Checked it online and it appears to be the most recent version.

The charger that came with it is a Magic-Flight charger, but does not appear to be the one on the site. The model # is PWO2DV-MGFL.

According to the directions, a red light means the batteries are charging, a green light means they're charged, and a flashing light or no light means either a) the batteries were not properly placed in the charger (out because there's only one way to put the batteries in the charger), b) an unsupported battery is in the charger (out because I'm using the provided batteries, which match exactly the pictures of the ones the site sells), or c) the batteries may be damaged or faulty.

Well, I put them in, I get a steady red, then suddenly the lights start blinking red and eventually turn off. did my kit come with faulty batteries or what? Can I send them in for replacements?

Also, either I'm doing it wrong or the batteries last a lot longer than it claims. I got about three days (though that's over a two-week period... I'm not in a position where "relaxing" is possible all that often) out of the two batteries. Admittedly, the directions that came with the box were not 100% clear, and I always let pressure off the battery so the ring could disconnect it after about five or six seconds. Now I'm reading that you keep pressure on it for ten or even twenty seconds?

I know noobs are annoying. I have to deal with them at other forums for other things all the time. So I'm sorry for being stupid... really. I'm just confused.

Hello and welcome to the wild world of vaporizers! I think the only thing that's varied so much is which charger they ship with. Mine only has a green light that either blinks while charging or stays solid when it's done. I think the blinking is the charging and the off is the finished position, but again, I don't have this charger so I can't comment. Hang tight, someone will know.

Yeah, the stock batteries are a kind of battery known as LSD batteries (no, they aren't totally groovy...) The LSD stands for 'low self-discharge' meaning that they will retain their charge very well. I think at 1 year on the shelf after a full charge, they'll retain somewhere around 80% of the initial charge, which is pretty darn good. The ones I have, which are Powerex 2700's, are HSD, high self-discharge, so they'd probably be dead in a month or two if I didn't use them. I'm not surprised that you get 3 days with the LSD's and your short puff time. The little black battery ring thing is called the "push-back ring" or the "o-ring" if you want. Usually, my good vape hits are a 4-6 second initial heat up time, and then I'll either do a nice slow draw, or I'll go for the sipping one, but I'll do this anywhere from 10-30 seconds if I can make it that far. Obviously with these kinds of times I'll stop inhaling, shake, and resume, because heating only one side of the trench load for this long will lead to gross taste and maybe even combustion.

Do you get much vapor from 5 seconds? I can get some gooooood clouds with mine and a bong, and some pretty damn nice ones just using it native (no stem, just box.) Video related, was just messing around with my "water pipe" and the LB with the 1 foot whip attachment. I cannot believe this was just FIVE days ago! It definitely works :ko: You can see I got it nice and milky, plus that trench was still good for a quick boost the morning after :D

EDIT: I forgot to link you to this awesome wikipedia-styled page for the LB! Pretty much everything you want to know is here; check first and if it's not, don't hesitate to come and ask here!

I knew most of that from the Vaporpedia page (which I see you linked to below... I got to that page about an hour before joining this forum... but I couldn't find any info about the charger I have... hence, I joined and asked).

When you draw for 10 to 30 seconds, do you hold the battery on that whole time, or do you remove the pressure/take it out after 4 to 6 seconds?

Do you get much vapor from 5 seconds? I can get some gooooood clouds with mine and a bong, and some pretty damn nice ones just using it native (no stem, just box.) Honestly, I don't get any clouds at all. I know I'm getting good hits because of how I feel about 3 mins later. This thing hits me like a bong (can we call it a bong here, or do we have to say "water pipe"?); basically, I don't feel anything at first, so I take another hit, then another, then another... then a minute or two later I'm like "oh crap... too much... I'm gonna be like this for the next hour"... I love everything but the whirlpool headache, but that ain't much to complain about... :D

However, I don't really see the vape (doesn't matter if I go native or use the stem). Also, nothing comes out when I exhale. Which is actually fine, because I care less about clouds from the exhale and more about flavor and how it's hitting my throat. I'm switching from smoking to vaping because I don't like the way my throat feels after a heavy smoking session (bongs excluded, obviously).

On another note... you should consider using ice with the water. I do it every time I smoke a bong or a hookah, now. It just makes it all so much better. It's a much smoother draw and is much kinder to the throat... plus, with ice you can get creative and add flavor... I used coffee ice, once... :D

Don't have to use water, either... tried using Jack Daniels with ice instead of water, one time... if I remembered that evening, I'd be able to tell you whether or not it's a good idea. I do have some flashes, and it seems like it was a fun time, but still... :D

A friend wants to try putting one of those frozen drinks in, like a Daiquiri or Margarita... but he's in Georgia and I'm in Florida, and he won't do it without me, so we're waiting 'till I head up there for The Dark Knight Rises (seeing it opening night with him, my brother, and a few others in Imax). I don't think it'll work, personally... needs to be more liquid so nothing gets clogged... but we'll see...

So you used the whip instead of the attachment Magic Flight sells? It looks like it worked well. How did you set it up? That attachment ain't that cheap... if the whip works as well or better, I might go for that, instead...

I know, it's a PAIN sometimes to want to look for something that's not on the VP page, and see this thread with damn near 700 pages now... When I take my draws, I hold the battery in for however long I'm going to be hitting it, and then about a second before I want to finish is when I'll release it but continue to suck, since the screen will still have some residual heat. In my experiences, it will cool down within 1-2 seconds, but I like to make sure I got it all out.

Regarding the vapor clouds, it's a bit silly... Some strains just won't produce anywhere near as much vapor as others, while still giving effects! I have a little bit of some 'AK' which does not give me half the vapor of that LA Con, but I know it's working because I'm feeling it minutes later. Grats on the switch, by the way! Your heavy sessions with a vaporizer won't be nearly as painful for your wallet and your lungs now ;)

I had ice in there, but the bottom of the ice notches ended up just at the tippy-top of the video screen. I put one regular ice, and then pour a ton of crushed ice on top. More surface area = more cooling, but faster melting too. Oh well, it's a trade-off I'll accept. As for the bong/water pipe thing, I think we prefer to use the term "water pipe" as this vaporizer is for "tobacco and other not-illegal things" and since bong implies illegal things. I don't think you'll find many people getting fussy about it, but there's a decent amount of MMJ patients here who prefer to use WP instead of bong. Personal preference, really, and I spend enough time looking at all the pretty glass that the term water pipe got stuck.

Hey guys,

I haven't addressed my issue when it happened but I bought a PA from someone off of the board mid last year and it worked well for quite a while. But earlier this year it stopped working. It happened after packing it up one night to put away and the next time I used it, no function. I did wrap the cord around the PA rather than how I usually fold the cord up and even after wiggling the connection point on the power (wall attachment), I still had no luck. Anyone else have any issues with this or know of a way to fix it? I am guessing that since I didn't purchase it new that there might not be any coverage as far as a warranty.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Much Love.

Quoted from the vaporpedia entry:

If the green light for the wall adapter doesn't come on, the wall adapter is faulty and you should email Magic-Flight about a replacement. Beta testing has revealed that the silver ring nut that retains the activator switch sometimes comes loose, resulting in poor or no heating. You can tighten this yourself. This ring has two small holes on either side of the switch button. A simple way to tighten the ring is to get small paperclip and open/bend it until the two ends are aligned and parallel to one another at about the same distance apart as the two holes. With the power adapter in the Box (makes it easier to hold), insert the two paperclip ends into the holes. Holding or pinching the paperclip as close to the adapter as possible, try turning it to the right (clockwise). If the ring is loose, it will tighten easily. Note: if you make it too tight, you will be compressing the switch itself and it will not turn off correctly. If this does not fix the problem, contact Magic-Flight.

As for your warranty question, it's covered by the same warranty as the box is; as long as the serial number isn't sanded off/altered or it hasn't already been warrantied but not sent back, it will be covered for life, even if you're the 12th owner!

The information about specific chargers isn't on the Vaporpedia page because that is the one part of the kit that they have changed most often, and I don't think even Magic-Flight has kept track of the variations. I could be wrong about that, of course. I've just added a note to the Vaporpedia page about what the lights mean, but it basically says sorry, we don't know. The only models described at the moment are the V-818 and the V-3299USB (which I have).

I'm making a crowd-sourcing appeal here. Find the model number of your Magic-Flight charger and post the meaning of the LEDs. I will make sure they are added to Vaporpedia.

Concerning your technique, you're doing fine as indicated by your state after you use the LB. You can review other techniques as described in Vaporpedia, but if what you're doing works then just keep doing that.

I'm not sure what you mean when you wish the Vaporpedia page were more comprehensive. It's rather massive and the usual complaint is that there's so much of it. What would you like to see added? This is the point where I always remind people that anyone can register for a Vaporpedia account and help maintain the pages. If you don't have time for that, just let me know what is missing or wrong and I will try to fix it.

I know, it's a PAIN sometimes to want to look for something that's not on the VP page, and see this thread with damn near 700 pages now...

No kidding. It's scary. I have to get used to the lay-out of this place. Figure out the search function and all that. Very different from most of the other forums I belong to...

Okay.

How do you avoid combustion? I have a few little spots on my screen from attempting to smoke chamomile tea once (taken from those little tea bags). It actually worked a bit, but I got these spots on the screen that have yet to go away. They don't seem to have caused any problems so far (I really can't say much for taste right now... I'm not sure if I'm actually tasting anything or not), so beyond using the brush to keep the thing clean, I'm not too worried about them.

Holding the battery in for 10 or 20 seconds doesn't cause combustion?

Regarding the vapor clouds, it's a bit silly... Some strains just won't produce anywhere near as much vapor as others, while still giving effects! I have a little bit of some 'AK' which does not give me half the vapor of that LA Con, but I know it's working because I'm feeling it minutes later.

That's even true for water pipes and smoking techniques, I've noticed. If I hit a water pipe (or hookah if it's tobacco I want), it's usually mainly for the clouds on exhale. I love playing with that... french inhales, attempting (and failing miserably) to make little o-rings... :D

Grats on the switch, by the way! Your heavy sessions with a vaporizer won't be nearly as painful for your wallet and your lungs now ;)

I feel it already. So much better. I am much happier now.

Oh I see, so you have one with the compartment at the top for ice. The last water pipe I used wasn't... well, I wouldn't say cheap, but it certainly wasn't expensive, either. The ice we put in went in the same place as the liquid. Though my brother says they've upgraded since then; apparently, the new, which was very expensive, has a place for the ice, a percolator and all that. It looks pretty nice from the pics, but I won't get to try it out until I get up there in July.

As for the bong/water pipe thing, I think we prefer to use the term "water pipe" as this vaporizer is for "tobacco and other not-illegal things" and since bong implies illegal things. Fair enough. I'll get myself into the habit of using "water pipe" here, then. It's better, as a noob, to respect the regulars.

Concerning your technique, you're doing fine as indicated by your state after you use the LB. You can review other techniques as described in Vaporpedia, but if what you're doing works then just keep doing that.

Okay. Good. Just making sure.

Sorry. "Comprehensive" wasn't exactly the right word. I wish Magic Flight kept records of their chargers, but what I really meant was "more user-friendly" or "less bulky". Honestly, I think the whole thing would benefit from having multiple pages or, at the very least, collapsible sections (like Wikipedia's mobile site has). I think it would be less daunting to go through if there were less things on one page.

Howdy. Welcome to the fun, glad you're getting 'the box' sorted out.

I agree, it's a pile of information to take in. For sure it could be better, on the other hand it's basically unique. You'll notice other vapes don't enjoy this resource? All their users are the poorer for it, IMO. While a few of us may be guilty of some of the lame ideas on the wiki page, the fellow you were just chatting with (our own Pakalolo) is the guy that did it all. He pulled it together, corrected the spellings, found the photos and so on. It's all his fault. His offer/plea above is real, I know for sure he'd welcome the very sorts of efforts you're suggesting. You know how to PM him?

Meanwhile, get to know the little guy. There's a huge key in the herb. Dryness, grind size, bowl load, shaking, power control, air control. It all has to come together to sing...

Keep your batteries charged!
