Discontinued Purple-Days Vaporizer

Long time lurker (I've read at least half of these pages). After much research, I decided I had to have adjustable temp and a bag option. Went with the HA over the EQ. It works very well. It does everything it said it does. I like it.

That brings me here. I only used the bag option a few times. I only use 1 temp setting also. While it does work with smaller amounts, I find myself having to load "too much" for the wife and I to get thick-ish draws. Since we are "grazers", we've found ourselves back to the one-hitter and using the HA on weekend nights. That kind of defeats our purpose of vaping. I have decided the PD will suit us much better. Before I sell (trade, anyone?)the HA, and pull the trigger on a PD, I do have a couple of questions. Sorry if asked and answered already.

1) How long is the cool down time? Sometimes the vape gets moved from one room to another. If I unplug from one room and plug it into another (maybe 1-2 mins), will it still be ready to go?

2) I know it is efficient, but can anyone compare the spent load to the HA at the same temp? Possible to vape "wet" product?

3) Does the tube get hot at the mouth end? Light, medium, heavy draw?

4) I know it holds roughly .02g, but can anyone compare that to a full sized one-hitter metal piece? My scale is worthless under 1/2 oz.

I always compare the size of a PD bowl to that of a regular end-of-the-pencil eraser.

I would say at about 5 min it will fall just out of the vapor temp, enough time to move from one room to another or out to the car. Also if it has fallen in temp it will warm up much faster than a cold start if the wood is still warm.

Cant help you with the HA question, but no you cannot, at least efficiently, vape wet bud.

the tube itself doesn't get hot, but the vapor is pretty hot, too hot for some. One reason many people use water filtration.

I would say a metal one hitter would be pretty close. Pencil eraser is a great comparison.

Hope that helps! The PD sounds perfect for you two.

Get the pd! It's exactly what you want, trust us :D

It's so Awesome! Once you learn how to take fat rips with it there isn't anything more satisfying. I'd equate taking a solid half bowl rip pretty much equal to a bong rip, its that good... Except. Better, as it's vapor

I have two questions. Whats the consensus on the stem packing technique? Is the maple as hot as the cherry?

I'll field the second one. Black Walnut, Maple and Cherry are all about the same density, on average. They perform the same. That's one reason for using these three woods, all about equal.

I'll field the first. Most people use the 'straw method' and tamp the end. I personally take long slow pulls when I hit it. Got a new water pipe today with a diffuser downstem. Thanks for the suggestion NYCDiesel!

What's the turnaround time looking for one of these if I order in the next week or so? Is one wood or style any quicker than the next? Also, do I have to go with the bison if I do not want purple on the bottom? Thx in advance.

Magic9, Order to ship date is predicted on our site as 4-6 weeks and we are on track.

It is sorta like a roller coaster at the park. One line. No Cuts ! Nobody ever pays to get ahead in line.
Not in my park.

I work in batches, ie. the roller coaster train can only hold so many at a time.
Some folks are front of the coaster, some are end of the coaster, and a few are first for the next coaster . . .
the line forms at the rear and the ride can only run so fast... ie. one guy making burgers...
Some of Monday's units are 5 weeks and 2 days, some a day or three longer.

I won't rush them. This weekend has been a little off the scheduled track and if I need an extra day,
to do them right, so be it. Right, or Rushed ?
I choose... Right.
Old carpenter asked me, "If you don't have time to do it right this time, when will you have the time?"

All wood species are in stock and start the coaster ride on an equal footing. ie. a block of wood gets an order number (of sorts) and some other code info (leather choice, gripper etc.) written on a corner of the block. This number and code follow it through the entire ride.
I don't see names in the shop and all passengers are treated to the same ride, no specials.
It then goes to my lathe (as a batch) and the drill press etc...
Short answer, wood choice, leather choice or gripper model, doesn't matter, you are in line. :borg:

Of course Pammy treats everybody like they are family, but in the shop they all get treated the same. ;)

Leather choices are heavy Dark Purple Cowhide Standard, second most popular Genuine Bison Hide (very black), third is probably tied between Snakeskin Embossed (black) Cowhide and Yellar Lizzard (embossed cowhide). Pammy has a Pontiac Green shod unit she likes a lot.

Have questions... just ask. :)

I never meant to imply there was a way to "cut" in line. As a long-time lurker, I am aware of the sweat equity and integrity that goes into each unit. I was just hoping that maybe you had one ready to go (maybe a cancelled order or something). I figured a snowballs chance in hell but it never hurts to ask.

In order to clear this purchase with my accountant/wife, I will have to sell my HA (lovely unit and first vape), to finance it. That leaves us vape-less for at least 6 wks (1 week to sell). Not too much of a problem I guess though, since we only bust the HA out on weekends when we have time. One big reason we're making the switch.

All my questions have been covered except (and I probably just missed it somewhere), is there any difference in temp between the regular and the gripper model? Less wood, less insulation? Thank you.

Didn't think you meant anything, just wanted to explain how things work here, to everyone.
One guy making burgers.
Or, 'The Coaster' is the best analogy I can come up with...

No units lurk on the shelves. Another opportunity to explain. Again like the coaster, once the ride is over you gotta get off (go to the post office) . Units are assigned numbers and move in step. There are actually several coasters moving at once. Co-ordinating it all, is a bit of a juggle, for one man, but I do my best to keep it balanced and moving. There is a Wood department, Metal department, Tubes, Screens etc...

Oh yeah, Gripper temps... no difference, the upper groove is below the heat exchanger and heat rises. very little chance of effect. :science:

I have read every single thread and the directions on how to reseat the heat exchanger circlip and it still will not tighten up . I have also tried adding an extra 1" retaining clip and it's still the same. The top of the heat exchanger is now about 1/4" below it's original depth from trying. Does anyone know why it won't snug up? I have tried all solutions mentioned here and it just gets looser the more I try. Yes, I have the wooden tool, and yes I wacked it pretty hard. It has never been dropped or abused so I don't get it. Thanks.

Mt2e welcome to the forum.

Wolface, I'll explain again, the construction and what has happened.

The top hole of the hardwood chassis is one inch in diameter. It is flat bottomed and solid wood at the bottom of that hole, except the two small through holes for wiring. That hole is lined with a 1" stainless steel sleeve that you cannot see, this sleeve sits on the solid hole bottom and cannot move downwards. The top disk of the heat exchanger sits on this sleeve and cannot move downward. The retaining clips sit over the HE top disk and hold it and the sleeve firmly in place.

What has happened is this. The moving mass of the heat exchanger has forced the clips out of place. Newtons First Law of motion. If the clips are left un-seated after the unit has been dropped and the heat exchanger mass has been allowed to beat the top hole walls for some time, widening the hole, the clips will not have anything to grab...

"The top of the heat exchanger is now about 1/4" below it's original depth from trying" ... No, that's not what has happened.

The clips don't levitate and the hole doesn't get deeper. Force moved those clips upward (by a 1/4"), if they are not re-seated after such an accident, you can damage the unit and the clips won't grip a widened hole. That's why we send the clip tool and that's why every unit is wrapped with instructions for re-seating the clips after such an accident.

The unit has NEVER been dropped or hit in any way, only lightly spanked on the bottom. The HE has been tight until now or atleast had no noticable rattle until todays light spanking to dislodge any AVB. The ring and HE must have slowly crept up over time. So are you saying my PD is not repairable? Do I just need a tighter fitting retaining ring, or how about multiple rings stacked until they grab? How would you suggest fixing it. Thanks.

The body is hardwood, the hole is was one inch diameter. The retaining clips , that held the HE in place were displaced by force, a sudden impact on the top top of the unit. ie. The unit was in motion till it stopped suddenly. The body stopped, the heat exchanger continued it's momentum and the clips were not able to resist the force of the 100 gram mass of the Heat Exchanger. Enter Isaac Newton.

After the clips were displaced, by considerable force, upward by 1/4", they were allowed to remain out of position (un-noted?) for a considerable time, while the top disk of the heat exchanger beat back and forth and widened the hardwood hole under the dislodged clips creating a groove in the wood. This hole widening doesn't happen overnight.

We wrap each unit with instructions, which read in part, " If you drop the unit, hard enough to dislodge the heat exchanger retaining clips, it is your responsibility to re-seat the clips, with the tool provided, before further use . . . If you have questions contact us."

Once the one inch hole has been widened, over time, due to dislodged clips, you may choose to get a larger clip, we use clips intended for the original one inch bore. You may try larger clips, since the hole has been widened enough that one inch clips will no longer grip.

Why do you keep suggesting that my units clips were dislodged by some sort of force or impact? I have stated that no such event EVER took place. Until now, there had been no indication that the clips had become dislodged, no looseness or rattling felt whatsoever! so why would I pound on it with the re-seating tool and hammer until that happened? I would submit to you that heating and cooling over time caused the clip to loosen and the unit simply "tore itself up" when lightly spanked on the bottom to clean. I would classify this as a major design flaw, and that you are somehow trying to shift the blame for it onto the customer,me. Sure you can run over the thing with a truck ect. but just don't EVER let that clip get loose and not notice it, or your warranty will be void! Nice! Thanks.

The reason I keep saying impact is because those clips hold tight and it takes considerable force to move the 1/4" that you say ... it's simple physics.

I also posted that your unit was wrapped in instructions ( for original purchaser) and that if you had any questions you were instructed to contact us. Instead you come here insisting that the clips just 'rose over time'. Didn't happen.

Again if you had questions, you knew how to contact us and under those circumstances, the unit would be replaced under warranty. We are very liberal about warranty coverage, but you didn't seem to want to go that route. You did not contact us. You came here. If you were an original purchaser, under warranty, and having a problem why not contact the mfg. . Instead, you choose this route and until now you have not mentioned warranty, wanting to repair it yourself.

The unit is designed to take considerable abuse. The design has been around since 1978.

If it is impacted on it's top the HE can dislodge the clips, simple physics, we provide a tool and simple instruction to re-seat the clips. We also provide lots of ways to contact us and instructions to do so, if you do not understand the instructions or need warranty service. We provide a liberal warranty policy to those who follow a few simple steps. Instead you want to make this a forum debate.
