Time to show off the prizes.
15gf0wl.jpg

Two Purple-Days Gripper models, Black Walnut (regular stock) with Bison Hide and a figured, semi-spalted Maple from Washington state (not the stock Fiddleback Maple from Idaho...) with Purple leather.

When Pammy feels better she will sort through the pictures to pick her favorite. Her folder of pics have random numbers so she is judging on picture merit, not who posted the pic or witty captions...

The other winner will be done as a random drawing from all qualifying entries, same as last time.

The grain on the maple one is gorgeous!

To those out there tentative about ordering a PD; everything said on this forum is completely true, it's... Incredible

Yesterday I was introducing her to some friends (watching animal collectives oddsac) and she works great even in a group setting! The passes of the unit got slower and slower as the night went on though, as people got more and more baked :D

Edit: grammar

Now those are some fine looking Purple Days!

Edit: Welcome Lip! :D

It was a bit too intense for some of the people as they weren't used to vaping so they got quite ripped :D

It's such an amazing work of art. Some of the parts can be pretty terrifying, but it makes it so that when the beautiful parts come around there is literally nothing like it, so so so pretty

Lip, you have any prior vapor experience?

my PD is warming up now :brow: personally I like the warmup time as it restricts the amount I use it, to times when I actually want it rather than just the "well since it's there" stigma

I tried the concentrate-in-cotton thing, but couldn't get it to really work at all. I was trying with some Amber Glass which is really hard and sticky, so maybe that's why.

Stu,
If you look at the bud ABV coming out of the PD at 12 or even 13 volts, it personally gives me real doubts about it's ability to get hot enough for much concentrate usage. I haven't tried yet myself.

Hey guys, so I have had my pd for almost a year and it has been performing flawlessly and exceeded everyone of my expectations.

I have a few questions that have been talked about but not fully answered. I also own an e-cig and would often use the flavored tobacco oil that i own for the e-cig with my purple days. I would load my stems loosely with my herb and then would drip one or two drops of the oil on the end of the stem and pull through so it soaked through all my bud in the stem. Now i know most pd users actually dry out their bud after they grind it up to maximize their vapor production but the tobacco oil i use vaporized at the temperature of my pd. Now using the oil with my herb would still produce the same effects as without oil but i found that the oil would cause the bud to actually burn more and my abv was much darker in color compared to without the oil. The oil also produced much larger hits and more of them so i would often use the oil to milk a bong or if i was vaping with more than 2 people.

The only downside i could find to using the tobacco oil was i had to keep my stems really clean due to the sticky residue left by the oil. I found myself cleaning my stems around 5 times more frequently than i do without any oil. I was not to worried about the oil dripping into the pd because i would only use enough oil to barely soak the bud and i usually use my pd with glass so i am barely ever hitting the pd while its upright.

Lately i have not been using the pd with the oil because i am usually just vaping with me and my roommate and the taste the pd produces without the oil is just to good and we see no need to use the oil without larger groups of people. Does anyone have any experience with using oils or know if using them could be harmful for the pd?

Hey I just got mine actually.

Was delivered to Ontario in ten days - so Id expect yours at any time.

One thing to remember is the hold up at customs can be random. I order a lot from eBay and sometimes things fly through customs, other times not so much.

As for the PD - I love it.

Super simple to use, looks great and delivers a good buzz. Super happy with this purchase and I have already begun to tell my friends about it. Extremely pleased - if you are on the fence of ordering - just do it.

ted,
With mid to high quality herb I get ripped off a bowl filled half way up. It's incredible I absolutely love it. The first hit of every bowl is always enormous and cloudy almost to the point where I cough. I've had mine for 1 week now and know this along with the MFLB will most likely be the only piece I use for years to come. The PD and the launch box work really well together.

That's a cool, piece, rsjrv99, but I think it's a little on the big side for a PD. IMO the PD works best with something under 12".

lol A LITTLE on the big side. that thing is a monster to me. i think i cringed when i saw the picture :ko:

having a huge piece like that or adding whip tubing takes away from the taste fyi. the shorter path makes for better flavor

To be honest, I purposely got a monster piece. With water pipes I look for the ability to diffuse and that alone, and here is my theory behind diffusion. This piece has a diffused downstem 3" below the water line (unlike the traditional 1") as well as two large 4 arm tree percs which sits in under 2" of water each. Since the piece has so much volume to it, it can hold large amounts of water, which allows greater free water at all times than traditional piece, as once a h2o molecules binds to a solute [tar], then it can't bind again, more free molecules = greater diffusion.

Also, when the piece is fully loaded with ice, the volume SIGNIFICANTLY decreases, and the hits are pretty small. If you were to load it with a small amount of water and no ice like most people do, then yes its a MONSTER piece, but it's difficult to be used as that. Theres little drag with this setup anyway. Here's it almost fully loaded with the carbon filter, and I usually fill it up with 3-4 more pieces of ice:

It works quite well, especially with the purple days. The downstem fits perfectly in the joint, making a great seal. This thing can get surpisingly milky as well...

Almost a week since the deadline, sorry about the delay.

Pammy's asthma has been severe, any activity beyond minimum has been exhausting for her...
so, the contest has been on back burner for a bit...

Finalists were chosen (by Pammy), down to about 10 or 12 . . . Pammy ran these as a screen saver for the week... then back to check the big list to be sure, then add a few and de-select a couple . . . wow, such great effort by the participants deserved a well deliberated judgement... it was difficult.
I watched, it was Pammy's choice.

The Purple-Days Diffuser 2011 Halloween Grand Prize Winner... (Pammy's choice)

Congratulations, Placetime !
Well deserved !!! (Tom's comment)
Your choice of wood... let us know. Second place gets the other unit.

The 'second prize' was drawn by Ant ReNamer after 5 shuffles of the file names (8 digit) just like last time... the camera operator failed (me) , no vid this time, but our witness Pammy says,

I liked this one too, even if it's a random pick. His 'Tin Man' was a late cut.
So many cool photos from so many folks.

There were also other awards promised. Scary and Humor... and maybe some others

Scary goes to this one, from JeffP.

She labeled it 'creepy'.

Humor goes to

Pngwyn, this was funny, even without the caption !

Then we had to think of other categories... there were too many good pictures...
Well, all these deserve something too. Every entry deserves something, thanks to everyone ! :)
