Discontinued Purple-Days Vaporizer

I think Pammy and I took several days to get used to the Eterra style vape. Of course we had a lot less guidance in 2003... I have always said 2-3 draws, with standard tobacco... higher octane might get you more... many variables including draw speed and duration... You can slice a pizza into 2 slices or 8 or 20... not too easy to tell what size slices folks are talking about if you don't know the original pizza diameter and slice count... :science:

Burntoast, I usually put my Purple Days ABV into my launchbox as well. My vape runs on a lower temperature than most though, the ABV has specks of green. I'm not sure why, as the wood is Black Walnut which I heard runs as hot as cherry. Wood density must vary a fair amount :2c:

There are tons of variables other than wood density. Even your altitude can effect vapor production. Technique, material, material dryness, grind consistency, room temp, drafts, Voltage... even the temp of the surface the unit is setting on ... Wood density will affect temps, but blaming all temp variations on wood density is a little simplified... I know... it gets repeated enough and it becomes the only reason...

User technique is the number one issue in the fist week... Read these 400, or so, pages...

Of course a variable temperature vape can go to higher temps... the LB is a good example of a vape that can go to much higher temps than a PD (it is intended to...) No surprise that you can extract other chemicals using higher temps ... combustion and solvent extraction are another two ways to get the last drop of economy... we do not try to reach any of those temps ... I hope that's obvious, maybe not...

placetime,
My initial feelings about the Purple days are quite positive. It's a beautifully made little vape, and provides a nice vapor density to efficiency compromise while all the while being quite satisfying. The intake is less restricted than I expected from my reading, and is almost beneath notice when used through water. There's no need for a lengthy review because I've found most of my feelings expressed by others here already.

The 12V setting was getting to a light to medium golden color, while a 13V upkick renders a healthy medium brown. I look forward to getting a nice wood or glass stem to class it up just a tizzle.

The Underdog 3/8" core bowl-tubing will fit on the PD core and works fine if the screen is moved up quite a bit, the airflow is of course more free with this setup.

Any suggestions for cleaning the inside of the PD? I can tell on the cross-bar there is quite a bit of residue and I'm sure there are some particles and other gunk down in there.....or just leave it be?

You could get a can of compressed air and while holding the PD up side down blow down the center hole.

Compressed air might work, never tried it.
To remove sanding dust before finishing, we use the shop vac. Hold the unit upside down as suggested. Car washes vacuums have pretty good suction if you don't own a shop vac. :2c:

Anyone have the link for 13.5 v power adapter to use with the Purple Days? I'm more than content with the vape currently, but it would be nice to get the ABV a bit browner.

The PD is intended to operate 24/7 with the original 12 Volt power supply only.
Over-Volting the unit will shorten the units lifespan and might be dangerous. Like pouring racing fuel into a normal car, it will run faster for a while... But, it was never intended to . . .

Thanks for the reply Tom. I definitely wouldn't want to shorten my units lifespan just for some extra heat

I don't if this has been mentioned, but you can vape oils pretty well if you put them on some cotton first. The amount in the picture (about a dabs worth of full melt) put out a good 10-15 cloudy hits. Just drop some oil on a piece of clean cotton, roll it up and load it in the stem and you're good to go. Way more efficient than an oil dome. Enjoy. :D

Some folks have mentioned using a beer koozie or thick sock to put around it in order to get it a bit warmer. You might want to try that.

I've read about using white cotton balls in the Solo instruction pamphlet, but haven't heard any feedback from anyone who actually tried it with any vaporizer. I guess we can take from your awesome post that you like it alot. How long do you use a ball before you change it out? Do you up your voltage to juice the last bit out or do you feel it gets hot enough? Have you noticed any off flavors or anything?

Thanks alot.

I've only done this 4 times and haven't counted hits, but I'd say the balls last 10-15 hits, depending how much was put in. As for voltage, I use the adapter that came with the pd. The seller broke the original so he replaced it; this one has 12v and .83a output, not sure how those compare to stock numbers. Flavor is pretty bland. You get a hint of the hash the first few hits but after that, taste is basically nonexistent.

Order shipped! I should have my PD (with some portland playinum kush) on Monday :)

Nice

I am also shipped recently. I am about 100 pages into this thread, my only worry is I hope my room isn't too cold for the Vape. I live in the Great White North and am a cheapskate. :)

Good news is I have about 7000 beer cozies lying around the garage so I can try that easy enough.

Will post a review when I try it out.

Got my PD today and I absolutely love it so far :) Amazing product and amazing service, thanks so much to Pam & Tom!

And in time for the contest..

I've told him multiple times that he is wearing a sock on his head, but he insists it's fashion.
