Also I trust the chemical composition of my Solo allot less then the DaVinci. Something about the taste of the flowers when vaporized leaves something to be desired. I think the term Robot Fart best describes it. If you are concerned about off gassing with the DaVinci I think the Solo would also concern you. I feel like the flavor is affected more by the Solo... some peoples theory about the flavor being altered means that you are inhaling other chemicals. Every hit I take off my Solo taste a little of plastic and metal. If you are concerned about off gassing I would suggest the ThermoVape... on the other hand I know you have issues with your lungs and the ThermoVape can be harsher then both the Solo and the DaVinci.

Ok, good to know guys. I'll give it a thorough ISO cleaning with ISO this time
. I do hope it is the honey and resin buildup, but it sure doesn't smell like it..

I'd just like to say, I have only had my Da Vinci a few days. I was well aware of the issue people were having when they first got theirs. So, before using mine at all, with a full charged battery I did 3 burn ins, the first at 420, second at 425 and the third was at 430. I sat through all of it, waiting. Nothing. No gassing, no plastic smell, it was just vapping air as far as I could tell. So, Idk if I just got lucky with mine or what but I've experienced zero problems with this thing so far and love the hell out of it!

Edit: Oh, not sure, this might be important or not. I have the charcoal grey model. I remember reading somewhere that each color has a different composition... Not really sure if there's any truth to that.

Keep me updated. I am still doing my review of this unit for the blog. I have not finished forming my opinion on the safety of this device. So far I am leaning towards it being acceptable for most users. The reason I say this is because of my experience in testing for the gas. It has been contradictory to others experience though. We need controls in our testing though like scientists have.

The best way to test the DaVinci would be to get a new unused device and run it for 2 weeks on high. If the device continues to produce gas after the initial burn off period then I would suspect the materials used in the device are causing problems. (Mine never gassed during my initial burn off)

The best way to test our devices would be to capture the air around the device and test that for plastic particulates. Unfortunately, I am not a scientist and don't have that kind of equipment.

When it comes to safety every person is going to have a different threshold of what they find acceptable. I equate it to when we used to smoke. Some poeple only like glass water pipes. Some poeple are fine with acrylic water pipes. Lastly, some poeple are fine turning their used pop can in to a water pipe. Each one of those is a different level of safety in terms of material usage. It is up to the end user to decide what they consider safe.

Are you aware of the percentage of people saying they had a problem? Personally I think it's small. I've had no problems with mine, and got to try out another 'fresh' unit as well-also no smell that wasn't plain ole ABV at the end of the bowl.

One member in this thread, trying to stir up a stink, turned out to be an employee of Storz and Bickel. I don't think we'll be seeing any more posts from Venti. In over two years of membership here, he only had 10 posts prior to posting in this thread, and he was trashing the product in every thread he posted in, except for the Volcano. I also got independent and unsolicited confirmation that S&B employees purchased a DV, and some similar attempted sabotage took place on other forums. Could be that S&B is working on a portable design, and trying to clear the field a little before they launch-just speculation on my part though.

Glad you posted this. I was aware of it happening but I am happy it is out in the open now. I think S&B has lost their touch. The volcano was a HUGE success. S&B does not release anything new for years. Then they release the plenty. The Plenty has turned out to be a bit of a disappointment in my book. It is not a BAD vaporizer but I never said "Whoa this was worth the $$$ price tag."

It is unfortunate people feel the need to play the spy game. Why they think secretly badmouthing a company will work on a forum is beyond me. It is like they have never heard of an IP address before.

If the moderators wanted they could look up my IP and track me down. It is not hard to figure out the area of the world you are in. It just takes a little more effort to get your actual address and information.

Well unfortunately, I didn't know that. However, I think we might be talking about two different things. I was speaking of the 'new' device taste you get, largely with all new portables (largely, from what I've read anyways.) Should have clarified. But it seemed relevant to the conversation because I did burn ins to try to avoid it, and while doing my burn ins noticed nothing usually at all. No smells or fumes.

Edit: Suppose I should also add: Experienced no 'new' device taste to the list... Although I should probably say I'm quite inexperienced with vaporizers, so it might have been there but just really faint or something. I can taste that nice vapor taste for the first 5-8 hits (usually about ~3/4 filled bowl) then it starts tasting abv'd. And I know what abv taste like. I have a gen 1 iolite, lol.

apologies if i've stirred up shit over a red herring. i amnot here to astroturf or defame, just want some good vapor.

my concern with the gassing may have been amplified by the previous posts here. i tried another 430F run today, and the mystery vapor was there but definitely lessened. i think this gives me hope that the mystery is indeed honey burning off, or new plastics and coating burning off. as long as it is finite, it should be ok.i'll give it a few more weeks of use to see if the ambient electronics smell goes away...

I don't feel like you are trying to start anything in a malicious manor. You are fine in my book. Having a concern for safety is important. Keep up the testing and keep us update. I would like to know either way if your device continues to produce vapor or stops producing the vapor you are referring too.

The smell of the vapor I get when I run the unit at 430 while it is dirty smells similar to the odor I get after vaporizing some oil on a Ti-Nail. The first couple Ti-Nale hits I did I was suspicious of the nail because it smelled kind of plastic or motor oil like. It was hard to describe. I know I got a good nail though. So it just has to do with the way the oil burn off the nail I guess. Maybe the odor you are experiencing is similar to the odor you get while using a Ti-Nail?

Like I said the biggest factor for me to keep this device running at peak performance is a thorough cleaning regime. For some people that might be a drawback.

That's been said quite a bit about a couple of Vapir portables, but I'd have to disagree that portables in general, or even quite a few, have a 'new vape' taste. While I haven't used a lot of different portable models, I have read thousands of posts from those who have. Vapir stands out, as far as feedback. Otherwise, there's really not much there, as far as quantity.

I took out the top screen the other day for cleaning, for the first time. Initially I started to worry about getting it back into place, especially since you're forced to do it more or less blind. But it reseated itself without too much trouble. Next up is the bottom screen, and after buying a 4 pc. set of dental picks off of Amazon for about $8 delivered, I should have no trouble getting that one out, and hopefully none gettng it back in place. I should say 'them', since I added a 2nd screen in the bottom.

max so you were able to get the upper most screen out? The last screen before the draw stem? The middle screen comes out easily when you unscrew the upper chamber lid. Did you push the upper most screen out from the top with a toothpick or something? I have not attempted to take that screen out yet. I just get my cotton swab soaking wet with ISO. I turn the unit upside down and swap the bottom of the screen from the inside. The ISO will drop through and out the hole where the draw stem screws in. That has seemed to do the trick for now. Although I would like to take the screen out for a thorough cleaning every now and then.

You can remove the top screen easy if you unscrew the straw and use the brush to push it out (pointy end obviously).

Max, i was actually just about to ask if anybody had doubled the bottom screen and if it was any better/worse in regards to performance.

To those with the vapor issue, is your chamber completely empty of all particles on the side? I use my unit everyday since the day i got it, clean it after every use (more or less) and try to iso clean it once a week, yet theres still brown abv in the chamber. I dont mean little chunks, i mean like abv stained onto the side walls. When i get the runoff, its only at temps above 410 and when i havent done my weekly iso wash. I cant speak for anyone else, but i strongly believe its residue from the bottom chamber. Also has anybody looked at the top chamber and straw when it isnt cleaned after heavy use? Mines literally oozing and overflowing resin after about a week or so of use.

Great Scott!
Yeah, its definitely not herb. I've waited for mine to cool completely (it was showing 91F when I emptied and scrubbed the chamber clean. 2-3 10 minute burns at 420F plus later, and the fumes coming out smell faintly of electronics and nothing else. If it was abv I suspect the charring smell would be overpowering and obvious.

This vape is 99% perfect for me, but this 1% plastic issue is a dealbreaker. I don't think the cave accepts returns, so I'm boned.. Again. Ah well.. Now it makes sense that the davinci rep stopped talking about the health.rohs cert they were waiting for. My guess is it failed horribly.. again, made in china by itself isnt so bad, but when i see china, and phantom gasses out of anempty chamber, then i start to worry..

heading out now to pick up an arizer solo...

The solo would be far from my list of suggestions if you are looking for clean tasting/smelling air path and good support based on my experiences.

If you are experiencing any gassing out problems (or anything at all) just call DV customer service. They are amazing and are happy to make your problem go away. Even if you are not quite sure they come down on your side. This has been my experience anyway. I have 'never' experienced more responsive customer service in my life for any product. I am 100% thrilled about their service, you will love it too.

What problems were you having?

I second what stema says about their customer service. For those that remember my straw incident, they replaced my straw twice AND threw in a free snorkel for my troubles. Now their sending me a replacement unit since the chargings faulty. Lance (I'm pretty sure that's who's posting, unless theirs other reps) had great communication in the beginning but now i feel he's lacking somewhat. But thats probably because of the success the DV's getting. I'm starting to see units selling all over the place.

To be honest, this picture [especially the closeness of heating element and mouth piece] and the rumors about "rubbery vapor" in this thread convinced me to take another look around on the portable vapor market.

mod note: Please post your interest in other vapes, and especially videos, in the appropriate threads. Off topic content removed.

Benny, i just vaped a small bowl in my DaVinci and a lot of hits later i can tell you it was an excellent after meal vape session and i am high as a kite. :D

And have you seen the inside of the PAX? IMO, they are slightly different in purposes. The PAX seems more in line with an LB than the DV.

The DV is a multi purpose vaporizer, it can be used outside with relative ease and it can be used for a confortable vaping session at home and can be easily paired with a bong.

The PAX is more directed for the outside, with its sleek look and simple function, although it has 3 temp presets it seems to work using mainly conduction, which is an inferior process than convection in terms of compound extraction.

I could see it replacing my LB but not my DV. :2c:

Hey guys,

Sorry for the "absence". Things have been busy at DVHQ and my attentions have been focused elsewhere while we continue our ramp up for world domination ;-)

If anyone is having problems with any vapors that aren't due to what they are vaping or having any other problems, call us and we'll replace your unit. We will put our record for customer service and quality up against anyone. Our return rate is around the 1% mark, which is pretty damn good for electronics. That said, nothing is perfect. That's why we are so generous with our warranty. We don't want customers, we want fans. Fans are earned.

Let's also be careful with innuendo and speculation. We've always been very transparent (much moreso than most other companies) and are always available via email and also on the phone to answer any questions or concerns.

Thanks, davinci! I'll be using this unit for the next week or two with the hopes that the taste will get better and reserve judgment until then. It is a fantastic portable vape in all other regards. In the meanwhile, could you let us know what the status of certifications for the davinci are?

I'm not even sure of that myself, but know it's soon so we can start our shipments to distributors in Europe and Australia.

I'll let everyone know once I know.

It's a portable. How far apart do you expect them to be? I don't know much about other portables, except for the MFLB and Iolite which both have their heating elements the same distance away (Anybody correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think of myself as an expert in any way).

If that's one of your bigger worries, then you might as well buy a plug-in.

one more small nitpick - the vaporpedia.com entry for the davinci shows it as being made in the US, but way back in this thread it was mentioned that this vape was made in shenzen, china. is vaporpedia wrong? not sure who to ping about that..

either way the taste seems to be diminishing more and more each day. i can only taste plastic when i draw on empty, and with herb it is masked, or undetectable. just a slight taste of the mouthpiece, but my concern of the body outgassing is lowered greatly. :)

Just recieved my replacement unit and prize pack (yes I won and Karma said they'd make an announcement a week or so ago but haven't seen anything so here it is I won! ) and Karma, I hate to do this to you guys, but I'm pretty disappointed. First thing I notice when I open the package, everything is loose in the box. E-cig catridge boxes loose everywhere, the shirt looks like it's been rolling around in the box, and the unit's tin had a few dents and the cardboard sleeve is a little warped in places. Sure this could be USPS's fault, but a little packaging peanuts or even newspaper would've helped.

Now I open the DV tin and find a black unit inside. My original unit is grey and like it way more than the other colors. If you could Karma, I would like a grey replacement and am obviously willing to send the black one back.

Also the t-shirt I got is a medium. I know I never mentioned a size, but you didn't ask either, but anyway I could get a large? I feel like a kid who just outgrew all his clothes when I wear it.

Like I said, I really do love the DV and you guys over at Karma are really good at helping customers out, but I feel a pretty neglected when I go through the above, but maybe I'm just being picky
