definitely worth it with just enough water to cover the holes and a few cubes of ice. the cold makes the vapor contract, and tastes extra rich

Nice setup you have there. Do you find the bong is worth it though? From my experience so far, the vapour seems adequately cool and "not dry" for the bong to seem like "overkill" of sorts, but I've never used one and am really curious.
Definitely worth it. I just got mine a week ago, and I have spent equal time using the wand, and using the wand with the bong w/ ice. Definitely improves the vapor. Plus it's really cool to watch the vapor flow over the ice. :D Here's a pic of my setup:

shadowreef - try it with ice, but not putting any water in the percolator at first. there will be a lot less drag, especially once the ice melts

:D Just got the SSV's. This thing is great. I decided to use the standard whip and sell the ground glass one. I'll problay just get a gg heater cover and whip later if I get sick of holding the standard. This will pair up with the pd nicely, and makes a great addition to the collection. Much nicer in person than in pics, and unbeleivably large clouds. :o The only downfall that I can see is that the Extreme has now been officially unplugged and put on the shelf.

Great tip for bong users who are sick of the tubing funking up their tasties! Take the whip remove the tubing, insert wand in bong (gg works best), take the SSV and hold it like a lighter, or if your working w what I'm working w VWT Pro, the stem on that bong comes out more horizontally and a nightstand taller then my bed to rest the SSV on then you don't even need to hold the SSV like a lighter, but that's a lot of if's. But seriously the taste is so awesome your removing the tubing from the equation and improving the flavor so much. I use that technique 100% of the time when vape bonging thru my SSV.

NoSmoke,
I got my SSV a little over a month ago and, DAMN. Soooo much nicer than smoking doobs, or rippin bong hits. Cleaner, better stone and all round better tokin experience. Like a lot of people, my first vaping experience was with a crap model. I'm sure most have seen/used/discarded the "BC Vaporizer" before. Its crap. I got it probably about 5 years ago. Was the biggest waste of $100 ever. Made the weed black, u didnt get high at all and it wasted electricity. It totally put me off vaping until I was talkin with a buddy of my roommates. He told me about the silver surfer vaporizer, and that he was making 1/8th last 3 weeks. I was baffled as I was using around 1/4 a week, mainly just for myself. So I found myself in downtown vancouver one night so I decided that it would be a good idea to check the local head shops and inquire about the surfer. The guy there said that the surfer was pretty good so I was pretty much sold. Esp since my roommate and I went halfers on it, so it was only like 175 each. I obviously, should have looked online, as there are much cheaper places to get it and more varieties than the three that were in the store lol. I'm still stoked on my purchase tho. The surfer rips me so hard that joints barely do anything to me now, and since that realization I've just stopped smoking them entirely. Couple that with my discouvery of the E-cig and I'm definately realizing just hope nasty smoking is. I can't bare to stand near smokers cause cigarettes just smell horrid, and i no longer have to huddle in a corner to have a smoke, or smoke a J. I can do everything indoors and not make my house disgusting. I never realized how bad cigarettes smelled. I fully understand those that say they cant date a smoker, no wonder.
I think that 7th floor has a great product in the SSV and I know it'll be getting me vaked for many years in the future. The SSV is obviously and awesome product, cause I just ordered another vape in the PD. Something for my room and on the road or out of town. I cant wait to try the surfer thro a bong.

Nameless
I may get a bong, then.

Anyway, one thing that annoys me about 7th Floor is the abundance of typographical errors within the documentation and on their website.

If youve ever talked to them you'd know they're a company full of stoners. I see the errors and it makes me laugh and think silly stoners.

Lots of us have been there, at least i know my first ebay chinese no name box was a POS. :(

Ive only been leaving a vapor trail for about 2 months now, but yea, smoking or just being around the smell is kinda bleh, :spliff: , but serves its function in a group setting if nothing else is available.

I have yet to see ( in person) or try a SSV, but the way folks are talkin about it, i might have to pop the cherry. :o

anyway.

Glad to have a new vape head

Is there any way to know if your unit is heating up to the correct temperature? I just got an SSV. Got a great deal because it was a display unit and the knob had a couple of the glass "bumps" had chipped. Before I bought it, the unit was plugged in at the store and the heating element got red hot and I could feel it was producing heat. Good to go I thought.

I got it home and turned it on for the 10 minutes that is recommended to burn off oils. I turned it all the way on. After letting it warm up for the 10 minutes, I dialed it back and tried to vape. Nothing. I turned it up....nothing. Turned it up more...still nothing. Then I turned it back on full blast....nothing!!

I thoght I read somewhere here that on full blast it gets hot enough to combust the material. It just didn't seem to be getting that hot to me. But it might have been, and I might be caught up in my own frustration. I wanted an SSV so bad and now that I finally have it, I couldn't even get mild vapor out of it, much less nice thick hits. How can I tell if it is operator error or equipment?

Any help, tricks, tips, ideas on how to make sure I've got good temp and/or how to correct what I might be doing wrong that is preventing me from making vapor on my new machines would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How fast are you drawing? Try setting the temperature knob to around 1:00 to 2:00 and try and make a draw last 15-20 seconds, see if that helps you out.

All SSV's are different, mine doesnt reach decent vape temps till 2:30 3:00, start low and move your way up!

Where does it click on? In general, SSV knobs are installed so that the units turn on at about 8 o'clock or so, and a good vaping temp is around 12 o'clock. You can take the knob off, and reinstall it so that it turns on at 3 o'clock if you want.

mine turns on at 8, but it seems like the heater on this one is smaller then my old one. I sold my old one about 4 months ago and it was a newer one I bought at a headshop. The one I own now I got off Craiglist for $130. This one doesnt turn bright orange until at least 2. Does anyone else with an older surfer experience the same? Now another thing the heater on my old one (newer surfer) would dim more when hit something I noticed. Granted they both work the same its just that I have to turn it on higher, I did notice it was easier to combust with the old one (newer surfer) when friends would use it.

Yeah you may have an older model with a different element and/or slightly different temp control.

Thanks everyone. I'll try some of the tips and see if I get better results. I figure I must be doing something wrong.

One thing I did notice was the dimming of the elements when hitting it. Nosmoke mentioned it on his older model. I wondered if that was normal.

I'm not ready to give up on it yet, but I feel inept that the learning curve is bigger for me. Thanks for the help.

It's normal to see the red on the element decrease or disappear during a hit. You're drawing cold air in and reducing the temp.

Who sells tubing? I know I saw a post somewhere, but cant find it now. Was it us plastics or something like that?

Us plastics works but they only sell in 10 feet units I believe!

Mcmaster on the other hand has everything and you can buy however much you want!

Most people here choose to go with the Tygon brand from US plastics, I just went with McMaster #51135K35, the standard silicone high temp tubing, which is pretty cheap. It has an operating max temperature of 392f, but its high temperature range is listed at 500f. It has been great for me, and pretty inexpensive so I don't feel bad swapping it out every other month or so.

--EDIT--
I am a little less than sober right now so double check those sizes before you go ahead and order using the part number I gave you :p
