Yup! bitch didnt wanna mess with the glass ;)

I also had great success with taking my PD in checked luggage. I put the aroma cup plus the reseating tool and the warranty paper in there with it, just in case, so its clear what it is. I found this cool sunglass case that fits it really well too! Maybe I will get a picture up but right now im just swamped with shit to do from just coming back here.

I had my grinder plus stems hidden away from that case.

Congrats wowthisisrandom. :) I knew I recognized that name he was the first person to welcome me to the forums. :D If anyone is wondering, it is post #8252. Hopefully he comes around, his user profile says he hasn't posted in about 2 months. :uhoh: I'm sure were all a little heartbroken, but the work was so worth the fun, the drawing was just a +. :)

Good luck categorier's. :D

I have been using a cherry PD continuously for several months as my main vape. It fell off a table once and has been on journeys in the trunk etc and the inside became loose and rattled. The first time this happened I gave it a few taps with a hammer and the little adjusting dowel included and everything was tightened up ok. Recently it got way looser. This time tapping it did not tighten it and after a few taps the whole heat port assembly and the circular clip have slipped down about half an inch (edit: ok, mebbe 1/4 or 3/8)! Have I hosed the unit? I'm afraid to even plug it in now. Luckily I have a MZ and WDZ around for backup, but I am still kinda bummed, because I am fond of that PD!

You should know how log vapes work if you already have two. after its been on for a while and you let it go cold it will almost always rattle. that tightens up as soon as its hot again with no reseating required.

I would shoot Tom an email about it.

I wouldn't recommend hammering the reseating tool. I recommend tapping it with the handle of a screwdriver or something.

When transporting the PD I gently tap the reseating tool until the rattle stops and then plug her in.

My newer unit occassionally rattles when it cools and warms, but my older unit doesn't even rattle at all when it cools and rewarms (it used to, but the wood around the ring has become somewhat petrified over time).

Is this what would be recommended, Tom (as opposed to just letting it warm, tapping it after it warmed, tapping it only if it rattled after it warmed, or something else)?

I got my PD!! :D

I discovered fuckcombustion about 2 months ago. At that time, I had a volcano, and nothing else. But I started getting weird allergic reactions from the volcano, so when I started researching my next vape, I discovered this forum. I now am the proud and slightly regretful owner of an SSV / MFLB and now a PD. I place the blame squarely on FC. :D

Anyways, the PD is fantastic, I have to say out of all the vapes I've used, its experience is closest to the MFLB. It hits similarly, just bigger. It's just as convenient, but corded instead of battery-recharger tied. Great flavor. I love the ease of use and cleaning - the SSV was my go-to vape before this, and my only complaint was the upkeep of the whip, and the whole "being mindful" of it as it was glass on glass, prone to falling and breaking, etc. The straw method to load herb is incredibly convenient (no more spilling stuff out of my grinder)! The only problem I have with this (I have it with the MFLB too), is that due to the short straw and draw length, it irritates my lungs, and after about 3-5 good hits, I'll have a wheeze/rattle in my breath (usually during deep exhale or inhale), and I'll be coughing for a good 30 minutes to an hour. Ugh, it sucks. Wonder if it'd be hard to make stems that are doubled in length? I don't like the dangly feel and appearance of whips, so I may try and jerry rig up a double-length stem tonight..

But still - I have a great, deep respect for the craftsmanship of Tom and Pam. My eyes bulged out of my head the first time I saw the PD - I had seen them all over the web (I was reading about them obsessively before I got mine), so I had a certain expectation in mind. So when I saw it first, it was underwhelming, and overwhelming at the same time. Much smaller than I thought, and yet seemed so dense with quality and weight.

Love the PD. Thank you Tom and Pammy, it must not be easy keeping up with the demand of the hungry vapists. I'm going to be cherishing this one forever, and a 2nd order will be on the way soon (I need a spare and some accessories :D)

Welcome Kertong. This is the "official" PD user good cheap bong that can't be recommended more highly -
http://ssfgglass.com/shop/shop/product/show/cid-105/name-12q-straight-tube/category_pathway-11
Other options are getting a properly sized foot or two of silicone tubing for the stem, a glass extension for the stem, or a glass stem from a fellow
named "clear dome" if and when he has more available.

In the meantime try taking smaller hits and holding them in longer. You could also open your lips slightly while inhaling to create a cooling carburetor effect which works too.

Nothing beats a setup like the PD and that particular bong. You can even get mini stems that work great with the bong or silicone tubing.

I would disagree with jeffp in recommending that as the "'official' PD user good cheap bong" but agree that that's a very viable option.

I wonder if you can expand a little on the issue you're having. Do you ever have a topical reaction to the precious herb? I know that I suffer (I don't use that term lightly!) some form of skin allergy to herb and thus have to be extra careful to keep particulate out of my airstream.

While some users may get used to the additional (or perhaps more noticeable/unique) particulate that enters the airstream when vaping (especially through a "direct draw" vape such as the PD or to a lesser extent the MFLB) I've found it completely agitates my breathing passage. These symptoms were particularly exacerbated for me when I removed the seating clips from the PD stems (allowing a little more particulate into my airstream, especially when 'packing,' i.e. 'strawing,' a PD stem). I wonder if you'd be willing to experiment briefly to see if it is the particulate in particular that is giving you trouble? If so, maybe try inhaling through some clean cloth next time just to test the waters (that is, place a clean cloth over the PD stem to be inhaled and inhale through the cloth). Ultimately water filtration (like what jeffp recommended) can help scrub the vapor of particulate very well.

Progress, good tips re: seating. That petrified wood sounds like something to behold! Purple days to all and to all a good night!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! jeffp, I've been reading and watching your posts, and I love the pictures you are posting at your shop with the PD! You seem like a cool ass guy, if I'm out ever by your area (NYC right?) I'm coming to give you a visit. :)

Sorry to be offtopic, but holy crap - hereatlast, I think you may be onto something! I crumbed up some fresh bud, scratched a patch on the underside of my arm a little bit, and rubbed the bud into it in a circular pattern. Less than 2 minutes later, the rubbed area was red and splotchy looking (in the circular bud pattern, not the scratch pattern) - it's not *that* red, but it's definitely a different color than the surrounding areas, and it has a splotchy appearance (http://i.imgur.com/6BhbD.jpg - the red is much more visible in person, camera washed out the colors a bit).

Could this be the smoking gun? I've been fighting this cough for months and it's this rattling in my chest that I cant shake. Only takes ~3 full sized bowls to get my chest tickling/rattling so much that I'm coughing every 10 seconds for at least an hour... I'll see if I can filter out more particulates and such with a cloth/bubbler, if I could solve this coughing issue it would help me enjoy my herb once again, immensely... :) Your theory seems spot on, as I get the rattling dry cough with the MFLB and PD, but much much much much less (almost nil) with the SSV, and nearly zero out of a bong/pipe/joint when combusting :uhoh: how do you cope with your love of herb with the allergy, hereatlast? feel free to PM me since we're going a little off PD topic here and I don't want to anger the mods, especially as an FC noob.... :)

sorry for the OT, back to PD love!

hereatlast - duly noted re: "viable option" as opposed to "official good cheap"

kertong - seriously water filtration not only eases the harshness of the hits going through a bong garners massive powerful hits. someone here referred to it as vaporizing 2.0.

massive powerful hits? you've said the magic words, I'm going to go fish out my bubbler and see if I can plumb them together. thanks :)

Posting a PD pick to make up for my offtopic post above :D Just took this one, my cat does not seem to want to get too close to the PD at the moment... hope you guys like lolcats :D

jAZkt.png

EDIT: Been practicing the "cycle breathing" technique - took some time and practice (and a few mistakenly blown out bowls), but I think keeping the vapor in my mouth is letting a lot of the particulates settle. A zyrtec + cycle breathing + a cotton filter placed over the stem's mouthpiece, has me hitting the PD again and again and again.. without coughing! You guys have NO idea how relieved and happy I am now. Thanks, herealast :) And THANK YOU TOM+PAM for the lovely, once in a lifetime PD. This really is a gem to treasure.

edit edit: one thing to note - the cotton filter I've added to the stem adds some extra resistance, so quite a bit more vacuum is required to pull the hot air through.. and with the cycle breathing technique, I can't quite pull enough vacuum, so I've bumped up the power supply to 13V. I've searched and see its not generally recommended, and I *do* plan on keeping her on 24/7 at 12V.. I'll just bump it up to the 13V when I'm actually actively hitting it. At 12V, I couldn't even crisp the herb, after 10 hits it would come out still green.. the 13V produces a toasty golden brown ABV, but not black, and the hits are much more full bodied and effective.

I hate to say I'm glad to hear it but its good to have a better sense of what's going on! Your reported skin symptoms sound very familiar to mine (sounds like you did the classic allergist 'scratch test!') except I generally don't need that much agitation to break out and am often left with awful "splotchiness" and hives.
The rattling in your chest that you initially reported ("wheeze/rattle") is what really gave me the clue. Those are the same symptoms I experienced after removing the seating clips from the stems (it was a period of about a week or two) and it was certainly off-putting.

Re: coping with the skin allergy. If I'm going to be preparing herb with my hands I will put on disposable vinyl gloves available at the pharmacy (vinyl better than latex for this application because of the smell and occasional powder that the latter contain) and do my best to keep the herb away from arms/chest/etc. My significant other is also very helpful in prepping for vape time. Beyond that I've come to really prefer using a bong/bubbler to stop any particulate from entering my throat (and the possibility of that awful wheeze/rattle!)...this does wonders and is just plain old fun. Check this link out for a quick read on vapor-bonging if you want: http://www.vaporpedia.com/wiki/Vaporizing_with_a_Bong_or_Bubbler

Sorry to go off topic as well, will stop after this post (never know, someone might stumble upon this from Google and say "me too!"). I may PM you either way with a couple interesting reads/links kertong.

The contest may be over but I don't think I posted this one and it's worth sharing for a chuckle.

Placetime, I've heard excellent things about the 250 mL Ehle. People typically order it from everyonedoesit.com

To push the thread back a bit, I have been given very different information from Pammy regarding rattling. Before this topic came up, I didn't know that log vapes typically rattle after cooling down, and was very worried when I discovered mine to do so. Assuming this was a problem unique to my unit, I emailed Pammy who suggested that I either install an extra clip to keep the heat exchanger in place, or send the Purple Days back to her and Tom. I've been meaning to ship it off for a few weeks.

There's a chance that Pammy misunderstood my problem, but my email was very clear in that the rattling only began after it cooled down.

jeff, that one is great

I also notice that if I vape a few stems I sometimes get a bit of thick slime in my throat that comes up a ittle later if I scrape my throat(can I say it like that in english?), and I noticed this signifantly increases with a very fine grind, so I like to keep it a little more coarse, or I grind 2 batches, one a bit more coarse the other finer and then I load the stem forst with a layer of the more coarse grind and the finer on top

but never had what you described, but that could be due to allergy, I've heard of people with an allergy to weed before, most common is that they notice it with skincontact with a living plant(some of these people don't get it with dried weed)
