So after about 2 days of use I can say I like it. I'm happy. The few things I'm a little less content with are the fact the glass that the stem sits on moves alot. If it would remain tight or steadier it would make for an easier time holding the wand to the connect. Next, I wish the wands connection to the glass connect over the stem was 'tighter' or a 'gripier' fit. More suction I guess. That's my only gripe. Also is the glass piece that sits on the stem suppose to be placed directly over those screws? Because in my guess there's still airflow coming from under there ASWELL as the 'Carb' hole. So anyone with specifics on that would be great. Thanks

Not sure what piece you are referring to as the "stem".. The actual ceramic heating element? Or are you calling the glass heater cover the stem?

The glass heater cover should be snug/tight. It should not be rotating at all when you put the wand to it, and it should not be resting on the 3 screws on the bottom. You should check page 8 of your SSV manual, as it has a diagram of how the heater cover is supposed to be attached. It sounds like the metal spacer (B) is a tad too small, and you could probably just "open" (expand) it a little bit to get a tighter fit with your heater cover.

As for the possible air leaks, if your heater cover is as loose as I think it is, then you are definitely getting air from underneath. You could take the glass heater cover off, put a finger over the bottom and one on the carb and hold your wand to the heater cover and try and draw.. You shouldn't get any air from in between the end of the heater cover and the wand.

ya. I might be missing parts then cuz I bought it from a store. I didn't get manual bag or stir stick. Just unit, glass heater cover handsfree metal piece and a generic wand. Not bad for $180 i guess. Although Now i'm pissed cuz i'm missing something or parts or i dunno. Guess i gotta upload pics....?

And how do i upload pics easily? preferably no sign up

There should be some play and it should not be firmly or absolutely held in place. The heater cover I am talking about.

That's normal. Keep in mind glass expands when heated. If it was on too tight it could crack with the expansion/reduction fluctuations from the heat.

How much does the Silver Surfer usually cost with all the parts included??

I'm sure I wouldn't be able to afford it now, but when I went to the store I saw The Volcano was $660!!

I can NEVER pay that kind of cash, so I hope the SSV is no more than $200 or maybe $250 max or I won't even consider dreaming of buying it no matter how great it is.

Its about $250 depending on the color scheme you want. you could do some searching for yourself at their website.

Not a bad idea to check around on Craigs List for shops that may be having specials. I got mine new for $170

Clearly you haven't looked around the forum. Why do you think you can make a 'for sale' post in this section? There is a thread for that purpose and I'll let you find it yourself.

I just received my SSV on Friday. I bought it from Tokin. I have no doubt that it was best to order through him than directly through 7th Floor, he did a great job picking out the pieces for my specified colours, too. Actually, the SSV in his recent inventory video is the exact model I had him get for me.

When real sunlight hits the finish on the Rainbow's End coating, it's insanely colourful. Really amazing. I was thinking of getting a custom everything down the road, but the knob that came with it is great and I like the idea of the clear stock wand because it's easier to see how dirty it is. If it was a pipe, I'd have a different opinion, but I'd like to see the progress of the "wand hash" as well as see how spent the herb is. I do intend on getting an aroma top, but I'm thinking of not getting a bubbler pipe for it now until a while down the road because it simply doesn't seem very necessary, and the same goes for the ice catcher.

The vapourizer I had previously was an herbalAire, which is definitely a good vape, but the SSV seems like it costs a lot more to make. The equipment seems better quality all around. Of course, there's no ability to fill bags with the SSV, and there is with the HA, which it does very well, by the way. But comparing direct draw is not very good for the HA. The SSV seems more effecient, faster to consume, and provides much cleaner hits. The bags provided nice hits, but bags aren't the most elegant things ever and have a tendency to be quite brittle. Mine had a lot of holes. The HA people recently released a new pump and bag system, but I really get the feeling that they overcharge like mad for any add-ons to their unit.

Initially I was having a lot of trouble getting decent hits, but my technique has been steadily improving, and I can now confidently and consistently use the machine pretty well. The carrying bag that it comes with is amazing, too!

Salut les gars !
I abandonned combustion for vaporisation few weeks ago... You helped me a lot to choose a SSV, So thank you!
So, I'm really happy with that crazy thing... :)

at the beginning, I used the 2 o'clock position but sometimes the pot tasted bad (the famous burnt popcorn) and it hurted a bit my lungs and throat; after few times I used the 12h30 and Now everithing it's perfect :ko: I have nice tasty hits during all the session.
(Maybe, it was because I usually take slow and deep hits).

Another mistake, I did, was to pack too big amounts, of course it works, but that's really less efficient it wasted a bit my pot, but it's good to be able to vaporized big bowls too sometimes...

I ordered for a remplacement whip, So I always have one in my freezer... because I really enjoy the frozen whip, really smooth and tasty; Not each time, but I like that way to have cool and moist hits.
And I discovered that the easiest way to collect wand hash is to freeze the wand and just take it with the poky tool...(incredible how that's easy).

So, nothing special... Just another new happy SSV user ! :D
this is so great...the vaporisation, and this vaporizer that I can use so easily alone or with my friends
And I don't talk about how high I am in comparaison with combustion...:ko:

thanks for every advice you all provided in this thread :D

just a question: I don't use a grinder but scissors before and during the session, I don't think that I could have something better with a grinder...am I wrong ?

Bonjour muttnik. Glad we could help you with your vape selection. The SSV is a good one. Scissors should do just fine for herb processing.

I have the DBV, which is the the little bro to the SSV and similar operation and function.

I have experimented with vaping just about every way I can imagine via cutting it up, using it whole to using different grinds and whatnot and my personal preference is to just cut it up with scissors. I get consistent vapor and its not overly strong to be seriously wasteful but I exhale as much as I would if it was smoke.

A benefit to using a grinder, well if your grinder has a kief catcher, is getting the kief. I find this is similar in quality to wand hash when putting some on top of a wand, concentrated THC. You also get thicker and fewer draws in my opinion when grinding it up.

Its all a matter of preference and my best advice is to experiment and see what works best for you but as a general road map ground up weed vapes quicker but do not do it too fine as it will become messy and potentially cloggy.

I find I like grinding mine up for my surfer Beez is right about fewer thicker draws. I like to take shorter draws on it so I don't feel like I'm wasting as much I still get hella thick vapor and it does seem to last for me that way. I also use the tokin breathing method that he shows in a few of his vids and I get real fd up off a little bit. Lately so as not to waste as much Ive been using less fresh herb and mixing it with some abv because I have a habbit of packing a heavy bowl this helps me to get the right ammount and like i said I feel like I waste less. I've also found for me that I start the dial at around 1 o clock and when the vapor seems to be gone I stir and then up the temp to about 2 230 I have the gg whip so I don't need to stir as much as the regular connection. I also find that I get no burnt popcorn taste that way either.

Ok, thanks guys. I never used a grinder and for me it sounds like I'll continue...
Maybe, I'll buy or build a kief box.
after that ... kief, buds, wand hash, vaporized stuff to eat....:brow:
will I survive ?:D
