The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

dannk the TV T1, a robust pocket portable, uses 2 Nichrome coils and 2 3V LiPo4s power it, unless you enjoy making your own  .I like the idea, I myself have been trying to find a way to use my old Hakko (dont use since vaping :D) with a glass whip.

...take out covering screen from the heater, put some classic screenthere and put the covering screen back.

A question - would kitchen foil work as well as wedging screens in there? Its metal, its food grade, and much easier to work with.

It has less surface area so it shouldn't be very powerful. Also you could easily block the airpath with it. Screens block airpath minimally, that's their purpose in the first place. Also I don't really think it is easier to work with. If done well, it could boost the performace a bit, but IMO screens are for this much better.

I had a question if anybody can answer it. I read in this thread about the whining noise coming from the heater area and a hissing noise coming from power bricks or something. the whine is present too but when my extreme turns on it makes a strange noise for one or two seconds and then it doesnt do it again until next time you start the unit. It's almost a hiss but not quite. I am not finicky about noises. If there is an issue with my extreme though I would like to diagnose it and hopefully fix it asap. manual and warranty lost

While there have been reports, and discussion, about noise from the heater, I'm not sure anyone can give you a definitive answer about your particular unit. There are a number of possibilities, and a noise does not necessarily indicate a failing unit.

The power brick on the other hand is more straightforward. Either it works or it doesn't.

IME Arizer's support has been responsive. I would send Kevin an email query. Be sure to be very precise in your description of the noise.

The strange noise is present in mine, although has only gotten better with time. It tends to make it while heating up and then stops when it's at temp, or sometimes the other way around, curiously enough. I wouldn't give it too much thought, my unit runs like a top and gets regular workouts.

I noticed that Puffitup has the Q for only 175 right now, which is pretty amazing for an authorized dealer.

I appreciate the advice. I might shoot him a message just to see if he can diagnose it when i get around to it.

Oh man I love modding my EQ. I've grabbed the small-hole cyclone bowl (the back-up present in the kit) and one domed screen. I reshaped the screen so it can fit the small hole. And it fit. It is like the regular drilled modded bowl, but the load size is smaller. I've made a log-like (convection hits from tiny loads) bowl for my EQ. I think it can hold only a bit more than a CRZ. And EQ with 8 screens around its heater is imo great enough source of convection to turbo that load. Tested it on ridiculously small ammount of herb and I'm toasted and impressed. It was done in 3 inverse hits (180°C) and one high temp finisher. I think that the herbs are also located in the place with the lowest pressure. Good for extraction too.

I know, they were big and blurry, so I didn't want to "IMG" them. I was saving the "IMG" for this post :)

Shaped domed screen. If anyone tries to do this:
1) Do it carefully, you don't want to tear it (it is hard to tear, but with enough force possible, and you will be using some force shaping it). Also you can pull it out from the metal "ring". It is tight, but can be done easier than actual tearing.
2) Do it precisely. Or it will not fir or wiggle. It must be precisely shaped so it fits and provides enough friction to sit there tightly. Also if done well, you can forget about herb spilling down. Tight fit of this mod won't let any big particles through ever.
x29ai8.jpg

Profile. Notice that as I'm using it inversely direct draw (with a bubbler), wand hash and particles are collecting on the bottom part of the cyclone bowl and the protective black rubber is on the bottom end. This mod is really meant to use with inverse draws so herbs will not spill up. Also with inverse hits you don't need elbow screen anymore, so usecan use it for the mod itself and save the back-up screen.

Session - fresh load:

After first hit (180 °C, super tasty, cloudy), photo before stirring:

Then I stirred, increased the temp to 185 and hit, photo before stirring:
m7urdg.jpg

Started feeling pretty baked (oh wow incredible), stirred, temp 195°C, hit, stirred:
2z74nt5.jpg

It was a wispy popcorny finisher. I got as baked from this 1 tiny bowl as from the regular domed screen pack. I just can't believe it that with my today tolerance I can get this baked form that tiny ammount. It just needs a tiny bowl with right shape.

...so yeah, this is a 3-hit (i think my screen mod also takes effect on the extraction speed) cloudy, tasty, log-like tiny bowl for the EQ inverse hitting (that's when you put the EQ upside-down in the top end of the cyclone bowl and eblow->whip(->bubbler) in the bottom end).

I haven't tried any log vape, but i imagine it is very similar.
I think that EQ pros against logs are: Faster extraction, temp regulation, glass hot-air path, fast heat-up.
And cons: Higher power consumption, clumsy inverse hitting, not stealthy, still needs stirring.

edit, have a pic of abv (finished on 210°C):

...and that was when only fast-preheated. Now I've preheated it with the cyclone on. Was on 180, but that hit! I've seen dense fog in the elbow like never before the whole time and the load had only like 10% green left. Almost everzthing toasted. So screen mod + tiny cyclone bowl mod + good preheat => 1 - 3 hit extraction of < .05g.

The power supply for my pre-Q Extreme has died. I just went to Arizer's website to try to order a new one and the only thing I see is the rechargeable portable battery pack for $99.00. Does anyone carry the originals any more or am I stuck looking for an after market power supply with the same specs?

My original PSU is almost dead so I bought a new quality one for about 25$...just go to a good store with the original and they will set you up with a proper PSU...

You just need 19V that does at least 1.5 Amps. Look around the house, most laptop power supplies run 19V, or an old printer/scanner.

And I'd suggest saving the power adapter end that plugs into the EQ just in case you might need to splice it onto your new PSU. Good luck.

The EQ is a smashing home vape. Here is what I did to improve things a little:lol:

The issue for me was the heat source is too far away from the material and I figured out pretty soon. The heater on the EQ is steady and very powerful.Theres not much heatloss during use.So to improve the EQ experience I modded mine just like Seek way back. Then I went a little further. The idea was to combine the EQ with a LSV wand for an all glass airpath. In the end I moved onto a smaller indoor vape for stealth reasons. The EQ surfaces now and again. It works really well.

ok a few photos

i raised the heater cover to allow the elbow screen to sit inside the gong.material is trapped between the two screens and sits very close to the ceramic element.you adjust youre temps a little to compensate
20120427134233.jpg

below Here is the double screen setup:tup: material is held inside just like that twobit vape the cloud:)

20120427134245.jpg

below this is a view of the the screens down through the fully opened cyclone bowl.I ve used a tuffbowl and curled over the silicone sleeve on the tuff bowl so it sits in the chamber around the heater cover. It supports the heater cover when in use.The heater cover is still surprisingly firm even though i ve lifted it.the silicone just helps to hold it really firm.It adds stability.

20120427134304.jpg

below here is how it looks when armed. The rolled up silicone on the tuffbowl holds the raised heater cover steady in the EQ

20120427134313.jpg

below here are the the two pieces that get hit by the steady heat from the EQ.sorry about the dirty bowl:D

This was me playing about and I m posting a few pics..If you want to do this pls get someone qualified to do it.I dont wanna be responsible for youre mishaps during youre modding adventures.Cheers and as always take Care!and play safe.

Hey ubw, can you explain/show how you raised the heater cover? Your mod seems very effective, and I am interested in trying it.

Thanks in advance!

firstly use a qualified engineer to carry out all work.

I tried this as an alternative to the standard EQ design.

watch this video lots of times!:spidey:

have one very fine philips screwdriver and a normal size philips screwdriver .They are definitely needed.

here are a couple of photos to show what i ended up with.It takes a little elbow grease to put the heater cover back on.the screws are pretty tight.

first the new position of the element

loweredelement.jpg

I lowered the element and lifted the glass heater cover and put it all back together again..The EQ element has lots of punch.while using it I find it hard to lower the temps even when I m surging vapor through a large water piece..It just needs its potential recognised alongside the other heavy hitters.

I love the EQ.Its one gripe for me is the distance from the heat source and the vaporizables. So i went about modifying it to improve it.

because the glass heater cover is lifted,it means it wobbles a bit that is why i used the tuff bowl like in your'e post and rolled up the silicone sleeve to hold everything steady. The rolled up silicone sleeve neatly stabilizes the heater cover in the neck of the EQ

I drilled out the cyclone bowl with a small arrowhead tile drill using plenty of water as a coolant and slowly grinded the inner center lip down to allow a bigger opening through it.

The next step will be to make a longer heater cover using a longer 18mm male gong tube that i can cut to size to hold an cloud elb bowl over the element.

I like the Tuffbowl arrangement. It holds and keeps the heater and cover solid and steady

I carried out this mod and i had concerns about the ceramic element sticking out of the glass, but once insulated in the glass fibre sleeve like below,I had no problems with heat inside the unit.

insulatedelement.jpg

the temperature i set to 165deg c to start off and then play until Im happy.clouds are denser and thicker.

this is reversible and means if you want to you can revert the modded EQ back to its original state.

sorry about the rough pics but it was a rush Job.Hope you catch my drift and welcome to FC.:)

Derfinitely. All these mods show that there is a lot of space to perfect this product. It just needs better glass design. But this simple glass must be one factor why the EQ is so cheap while still being a quality glass vape. I would definitely pay a bit more to get better performing and convenient glassware for it. But now I have 2 modded bowls one as kicker, one as log vape imitation. The EQ itself is performace boosted and when I want better glass, I just wait for the VXC.

Oh these bowl really make a difference in vaping. And mostly I love the inverse hitting. Yes, the EQ is held upside down for each hit, so it's a bit clumsy, but the ability to draw as fast as I want without worrying about displacing herbs and good extraction of these hits pays for it. Oh and if anyone wanted to do inverse hitting, just remeber to only hold the EQ upside down while you hit it, Don't try to McGyver any solution that would hold it upside won on its own. Heated air is generally going up so EQ upside down can heat it's electronic if held like that fo too long (think tens of minutes) without even hitting it.

Hey guys first post! :science: Ive been on GC for a few years but recently have switched to vaping for a number of reasons, and I am the proud new owner of an EQ 4.0 . I fuckin love this thing I get so ripped from half the weed i use to use in my blunts which was my main way of combustion. I came here because I yearn for knowledge of vaping that GC cant really offer. Also seeing this page alone ive noticed other people have a noise coming out of their eq. Ive had mine for about a month and recently when its on it occasionally emits a really high frequency screech, almost like I have tinnitus and my ears are ringing. Its on and off not constant, and im worried maybe an electical connection inside may be loose or something? not sure, glad to be here though :peace:

Hey everyone, just curious, me and my friend have both been vaping awhile, and decided to try a bag with the eq. No matter what we did, after every hit, no matter how big, it was just horribly harsh. Any input as to why? We tried attaching a 6 ft whip to the bag and then putting the whip through his 2 ft single perc bong, and it was still harsh.
