With the cloud I find the size of the ELB definitely helps better regulate how much I use... The cloud gets me really high from the get go and it takes me a while to come down, whereas the EQ I always felt the need to top up as I went along... I never had a problem hitting the EQ all day long if I wanted to, didn't experience a parched throat like pappy reported so I guess I was maybe lucky in that regard. I can see like pappy said that there is also the temptation to keep hitting the cloud all day...

I'm going on a trip next week with a couple of guys with EQ's. We're all going to take our vapes and do 5 days of side by comparisons with the EQ and the Cloud, I'll report back with hopefully a more accurate study of economy after that.
I misunderstood thinking you got better mileage out of the EQV. :myday:
I get a cleaner high with the VXC too and have yet to do two ELBs in a row. I wait a least 5 minutes, LOL! But seriously an ELB, 5-6 hits, keeps me loaded 2-3 hours. I found EQV elbow loads were more effective using a bong and the hard pull, whip, and restricted air path contributed to the parched throat. Sounds like an interesting adventure you and your pals are going on.

CONFUSIOUS SAY: 1 ELB too many = COUCHLOCK!

I know I can get pretty vaked with an elbow pack on an EQ after 5 hits. I can come back to it later on and still take 4 more hits off it afterwards.

Seeing the size of the clouds elb, that would put me on the floor.

For me I do a light pack on the elbow, hook the whip up to my cheap bubbler filled with hot water. I fan assist at 1 and take a long slow pull. I get pretty big clouds. This is at 200c... It's taken me a few months to get this down to a consistent output.

When I do get the cloud, I figure I'll choke to death with the amount of vapor it delivers.

Hahaha, yeah I agree with all of this, (parched throat excluded - lucky me!) That second bowl is always so tempting. But then I'm not going anywhere for a little while :p

Cheers guys! It has become a yearly pilgrimage, we usually get ourselves into a good deal of mischief. My friend has a house on the coast and a boat down there which makes for some interesting times after a few bowls!! Yeah I think the cloud will end up getting the most use for sure :p It'll be fun to try it out with the other guys glass collections!!

@RussyRoo - thanks a lot for the explanation. It's interesting that the difference is a consequence of how your routine has been changed by the Cloud. My experience is very similar to Pappy's, i.e., not much difference in load amount but significant differences in the experience, - the overall quality is clearly superior. (And knock yourself out on that trip!).

@Venomous - I suspect your figuring is spot on: Expect to choke. :D

Most definitely lol. I'm just sitting here patiently awaiting my pre order date to come up. I'm actually looking at having some new bud delivered as well as dabbling into the concentrate world, which will be a new experience for me.

In the meantime, the EQ is doing its job and I'm not scorned with so much vxl envy as of late. I'll admit, I was quite envious of the massive cloud hits you guys have been getting. So I just took that negative energy and figured out how to get this EQ to work the best way possible in the meantime.

Maybe us late to the party pre order guys will have better glass pieces to choose from when our time comes up... :)

Hey everybody, just thought i'd jot down some of my initial thoughts after using the cloud for a few days now. Most has been said already pretty accurately in previous reviews but I will re-iterate some of it for those that joined the party a little later on. The packaging was impeccable. Honestly couldn't care for the "special" packaging that was going to be offered early on, even though it would act as a travel care, not an issue whatsoever IMO.

The quality of the cloud unit itself is very high, it just feels awesome. My unit is flawless in appearance, save for a slight wear/paint loss on one vertical edge, not an issue to me. I'm very picky when it comes to QC, and this thing met or even exceeded my expectation forsure. The hydracirc is also very impressive. Very thick and heavy/high quality feel, at least to my glass newbie impression. It looks and feels awesome, and mates with the cloud so perfectly. I don't have any real desire for any other glass anymore, except for maybe other HT's.

My unit takes around 8 mins to warm up to 12 I think, and another 4 or 5 to get to max temp, it's longer than I thought it would be based on the advertised approx. 5 minutes time. But I understand it's due to a change made to not overshoot temp, so whatever, once it's at temp - it's at temp. It responds to changes pretty quickly and the red/green light thing is awesome. It had a long burn at 2 X 1hr on max and still was emitting somewhat of an odour, it has since gone away completely.

I'm not certain if my unit is running cool or not, but as mentioned by others with their abv colour i think my unit functions as it should. It does produce vapour at 9am, and doesn't combust on max, but it just seems like my abv is always yellowish, with some green in it, and I always stir halfway through, I find it manditory because everytime I open an elb it's green on top. Even with stirring, the darkest i have got it was a light brown. When I put the abv in my solo, i get a few more clouds, and then nothing so I know it must be mostly extracted.

The thing I find most different about this vape is that it extracts fast (like planned). It's really hard for me to get used to though as you can destroy .2+ in just a few rips. I find if I start at noon I have to finish on max to get everything I can out of it. True the taste is good, but I find that water filtration masks it significantly so i've used the cloud with a dry HT or a few ice cubes (love the ice pinches). Definitely no popcorn taste but i think that may be because it doesn't take it as far, which is why the abv isn't darker...darker means popcorn taste (and i'm not really sure what actives/cannabinoids?).

I have been able to get some decent clouds, but i'm still experimenting with elb sizes as i've had bigger clouds with other vapes. I took some pics of the abv but they definitely didnt turn out to represent reality, and showed up much more green. Gonna go back and read some of the other accounts of cool running clouds/abv colour.

All in all after a few days i'm pretty excited about the cloud, but not "floored" like I thought it was the 2nd coming of christ or something. I think I do need to play and use it more, and i'm pretty sure it gets me more medicated than my solo, but i'm not sure but how much really. I do feel very lucky to have it and have a chance to play and thoroughly review it.

Maybe your Cloud is a bit cold, or have large hole in it's glass core...? Also there are reports that it vapes better when left on green for a while to get pre-heated fully. Glass doesn't like fast temperature changes, that's one reason why Cloud takes 5-10 mins to heat-up. Imo it is designed to stress it's own glass core the least it can do.

My cloud is running bang on I think. It's I think somewhat of a rookie error on my part. It's due to the load size of the ELB. Although I love this vape, I still don't think it's as efficient as the solo for loads of around .1 to .15. It's close, but the abv is pretty light in the Cloud, and more can be extracted from it in the solo. However I just vaped .25g of og X skunk and successfully got dark brown abv! I started on 3pm and finished on max. These are the results I was looking for, and it's big time strain dependant. Some strains will only vape to yellowish.

Some more thoughts on the Cloud that I neglected to mention.. The ticking/clicking noise. It's there, it's pretty loud, and it's pretty regular. At first I honestly thought I was fucked because my wife was whining about it here and there, and said it has to go, but after only a day she saw how much I was using it and liking it and said she didn't even notice it anymore. I kinda like it! Sounds like small electric shocks lol Half of it is my fault because I always have it on, now i'll start to have it on just when I use it and then turn it off.

It can get hot, really hot, especially the screws, but to me it's not an issue. It only gets hot if it's on higher heat for a prolonged time, and just avoid the screws or hold it in a way that's comfortable.

I think i see a slight dark ring when I look into the glass cylinder from the top, under a ridge i think...is that something that needs cleaning? if so, how?

I am LOVING the ELBs too... i have 4 of them so load them with different strains for tastings, etc. lol It will be nice to get smaller ones to improve the efficiency.

Back to more testing!

@vape4life -

Re the ring at the ridge of the joint, how to clean that was discussed over the last few pages (Pappy's howto, etc.)

Weedemon shared his routine recently and I am doing same. I'm preferring a load of .15-20 (again, varies somewhat by strain & how dry) as it seems to be the efficiency sweet spot. Not that more doesn't work fine, too - it's just that the mid-size load seems to benefit most from the turbulence. I'm hitting at the 10:30 setting until it seems spent, upping to noon, re-grinding the load very fine while waiting. Previously I wasn't re-grinding. I've been surprised that I'm getting a couple additional hits doing that. I can see where power hitters may not benefit from this, but at least for me its a nice tweak (and I have a previously unused little grinder that is perfect for this). As a broad generality, it seems that the efficiency is so good and drag so little that it is easy to pull more than can effectively be absorbed in one hit, so I'm concentrating on comfortably full but not huge hits that I can hold longer and re-breathe with => maximum effectiveness (and a rich brown ABV).

Re the warm-up, I initially was waiting the extra little time too but now just take a couple of relaxed hits after it goes green. Seems to pleasantly (taste wise) prime the pump, so to speak, and warms the unit up a little faster.

Just my :2c:

I would like to comment on the customer service provided by the VXL crew. I had to
send my HT back due to cracks in the perc. After Troi had been made aware of the delay
in re-shipping my replacement, he saw to it that it got shipped back to me (East Coast)
in 3 days. Thank you Troi, and VXL. I was at first kind of put off by the defective glass,
I realize that is not directly the fault of VXL. My less than stellar feelings about this issue
certainly showed through in my posts. Please accept my humble apologies for acting
rather dickish..... I really appreciate the efforts to correct the qc issue. I received the
SGW showerhead as a replacement, it rules!!! There is so little drag through the Cloud,
I really like the slight drag provided by the SGW. Others have discussed throttling the
intake for increasing cloud density, and I agree that it works quite well. Consider me a
satisfied customer, sorry I acted like a WANG. To all who are still waiting, be patient.
This vape is worth the wait......

thanks oldie, i saw that just wasn't sure if that's what it was, I mean only after 2 days it's dirty? And how the heck does it get dirter down there anyway? lol

How much water is supposed to go in the hydracirc? Just above the slits or higher? And the upper chamber just gets a bit of water naturally?

ok i'm starting to think this is now better than the second coming of christ! lol finally figuring out how it responds to different temps and different strains... gotta hand it to VXL, the ease of use is just brilliant! The one handed operation is so easy, and the integration of the HT is something else. I'm really starting to get impressed, and i've had some lung busters that made me cough too!

PS. just wanted to add in that I received my cloud from another forum member, my preorder hasn't come up yet.

. . . How much water is supposed to go in the hydracirc? Just above the slits or higher? And the upper chamber just gets a bit of water naturally? . . .

The upper chamber can take a bit of water depending on how you fill the HT. I fill up to just above the slits and then take a quick draw. If there is water in the top chamber it will move to the bottom, raising the level ~1/4-1/2" above the slits. More water adds drag and chug, if that's your pref. Just be careful not to add so much that the upper chamber fills above the dome, or water will flow back down the inside airway and out the joint.

Glad to see that you made it into the Clouds earlier than expected. :)

This thing is f%$^* awesome! I find stirring necessary once to get "a few more hits" but it's so easy to do compared to any other vape i've used. Extraction is incredible! So nice to not get that popcorn taste.

Solid post all around, mephisto. Impressive introspection. Good for you! I'm happy you're enjoying it. Can't wait to get mine so I can join you in the clouds. :)

If you regrind can that material still be used to make BHO, or is it so extracted that there is not anything left to make BHO with?

a good question i have yet to do a run with cloud abv yet. i would think so but maybe double up on the filter process because o f the extra fine particulate i think we could expect to get.

Has anyone used bubble hash in the ELB's?

Couldn't have searched...?

thc vaporizes at its bp of 315f(157c) . bad things start to appear at 185c(according to maps study) benzene among others. at 9 i think i am around 315-320(not sure) but I feel that is a good guess judging on the buzz that I get. Personally I don't see the need to go higher even the bubble I use extracts well at 9 oclock . I can put a small chunk of hash in the elb (no bud) and get clouds might have to break it up after a few hits but the taste is really nice. I am definitely a low temp vaporist I don't like the effects of some of the higher boilers.:2c:

Another method posted by jackstraw, and possibly others \/

I sandwich a small pancake of bubble in between two layers of abv. I set the dial at 9 and take many hits. I call it the "forever bowl" because it lasts forever.

and a couple by hereatlast

Got the chance to try some very nice bubble in the Cloud today. Used a couple different methods but one suggested by a savvy guest was a lot of fun: we put a thin layer of the material in the top of the ELB (i.e. the cap's concave space) with the bowl packed with some fresh herbal material. While the hash was aided by a good stir every couple hits or so and placing ground hash material inside the ELB is probably a less fussy methodology, it tasted really great and vaped evenly.

Obviously this works well with the Hydratube and would be a little riskier with a piece which required the VXC to be turned upside down. It was also really great to just throw the hash in with some ground herb and puff away.

One of the neater parts of the "test" was pulling the HT off the unit and watching the hash bubble/melt. FWIW, the hash vaped very nicely with the dial turned way down (tried a few hits a little higher at the 9 o'clock mark as well). I know people want really high temps. for concentrates but I don't think its necessarily the only way to enjoy them with the Cloud (or in general for that matter).

There were more results, but this should give you an idea...
