the 4" has flatsided teeth and shit is stuck to them all the time and it's easier to make them sharper like a knife blade

here for the chicks
Haha, mine actually came from edit too.

It was out of stock for a while but I just noticed they have it again, it's this one.

And to be honest I have a really hard time telling the difference with this one.

Just ordered the new Mendo vape 2" model. Sounds sweet. Always liked the mendo heft and quality feel. Plus its a Cali patient made product.

Slightly Medicated, while it's nice that you have a blog and that you do reviews, it would be much nicer to see you do a grinder review here in the grinder thread at FC than to read a post that is self promoting and gives no information here to the FC community. :2c:

It's not cheap but quality never is.
I disagree. Why spend $539 on a Volcano, as many vapor newbies do by just doing surface research, when you can get an all glass vapor path for $100? Sure it's not a bag filler, but we're just talking quality. Space Case, Mendo Mulcher, Cosmic, and any other expensive grinder brand is the same deal in my experience. Good deal for the smaller 2 pc. models, but the 4 pc. models cost way more than you need to pay, in my experience.

I've been using 'cheap' brands like Chromium Crusher and Sharp Crusher for about 5 yrs. now and they've held up just as well as my Space Case. Grinders have come a long way, quality wise, and even the cheap brands I've mentioned are all now made with high quality aluminum and 100% CNC made. My $15 4 pc. Sharp Crusher even has a better tooth design than the standard diamond shape of the SC. It's my 'go to' grinder for screening kief and I couldn't be happier with it.

I'm still surprised that my $6 storz & bickle herb mill works so damn well, more so than my 2 piece space case. Throw it in the dishwasher and comes out sparkling.

I'm led to believe the Storz & Bickel grinders are essentially acrylic Sharktooth Number 1 grinders?

These are all anyone uses round here. I mean I've had a couple metal pollen catching grinders but I find the sharktooth with the pyramid teeth (preferably one with no magnet in the middle) simply does a nicer job of flaking out the herb. £2 and can last a lifetime. Hard to beat that value once you see how well they grind. Wetter/stickier herb is much better through one of these than through a four piece metal one IMO.

Yeah my S&B is virtually exactly the same as the Original Grinder No.1 (don't be fooled by imitations). I still have my very first one that I bought ever, and it's still going strong. I think I got it in 1999 - they were a bit harder to come by in the UK then and more expensive- I think it was £5 or something. I can remember when the first 4 part acrylic ones came on the UK market and they were like £30-40 lol. Anyway, functionally it's the same as the Storz and Bickel, although their different enough that the two half are not interchangeable

here everyone uses those acrylic too, but I never liked them since evere ocassions I used one they would hardly turn. but, none of my friends ever clean their grinders, usually get comments that mine turns so smooth. that's because everytime I start getting resistance(that's not from the weed inside) I gave it a quick clean on the edge, I like my grinders to turn smoothly.

I eventually decided on the 2 pc mix 'ball from EDIT wich I received a few days ago, haven't grinded a lot with it yet, but I like it, but the conistency seems a bit mixed, I get some a bit rougher(but still finer or the same as the grinder I used while I had not one of my own), and some that has exactly the finer consistency I want.

Cool! I had no idea there were still MixNBall grinders available! :D

Same here!
I've had a med 4pc SC for a while now and also recently got a small 2pc Ti SC and I still use the S&B the most. Such a nice consistent grind! Not nearly as sexy as the SC's but works so damn good!

First post! Happy to have found this community!

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find it so I'm gonna ask anyways. I currently have a MFLB, and am ordering a DBV or SSV soon (can't wait). I've been using a cheap metal 2 piece from my local headshop for awhile and it's starting to stick.

I've decided to invest in a Space Case because I hear they're lifetime investments, and I've settled on a medium titanium edition (large is just excessive, small is too small for the amount I tend to grind). However, I can't decide between 2 and 4-piece.

The price is irrelevant to me, what I'm wondering is what would be a better choice for me. I'm probably vaping about 80% of the time now, the other 20% is almost entirely rolling. I know a finer grind is more desirable for both of these things, and portability is nice, so I'm leaning towards the 2-piece right now. Is there any reason at all for me to get a 4-piece (I'll probably invest in a shake box if I get a 2-piece so don't say pollen), or should I just go with 2 all the way?

Hello! And Welcome

I suggest you get the 2 piece SC grinder. I have had all 3 sizes and prefer the small to the medium or large.
In addition, You should get one of the mini OEM grinders from puffitup for use with your MFLB, since thats the best for that vape.

The small or medium 2 piece SC will provide a nice uniform grind for the DBV/SSV

Welcome to the Forums! Hope you enjoy it here.

I always like the 4 piece because I use them as a shake box. I like to give the material a shake after I grind it. I also like that the grind falls through to the 3rd chamber. It just makes things easier to grab and use. No dumping the connects of the 2 stage grinder on to the table, or picking around trying to get all the bits out between the teeth. If I want a finer grind I just hold the unit upside down. This allows me to continue to grind without the material falling through the holes sooner then I would like. When I feel like I have it extra ground I turn it over and it falls though the holes into the 3rd chamber. If it is going to be your home grinder I would suggest you just get the 4 stage grinder. Then you don't need the shake box as much. If you want a little 2 stage grinder for portable use then you can pick up a cheaper one since you are not using it as often.

I used a 4 piece grinder for about 2.5 years, then switched to a 2 piece mendo mulcher for the past 6 months or so.

With the 2pc, always having to grab a magazine to dump the contents, and a card to scrape it all up, is definitely a lot more hassle than it used to be. On the other hand, I don't have to invert the grinder so it properly grinds it all up.

If you have a "dedicated station" to vaporize at, then a 2pc probably won't be a lot of hassle, but if you evergrind on the go, a 4pc is awesome. Especially when price is irrelevant.

One final thought: A 2pc is a lot lighter in weight, some might find that a plus, some a minus.

personally I'm a 2piece-fan. it's easier to carry since it's thinner, and I don't need to collect kief. and if you grind an amount that lasts a while in the grinder like I do(I mostly use an UD so only need a little each time), the last bit also has a higher ratio of kief in it, that last stem out the grinder always lasts me way longer as the previous stems.
I have never used a good 4-piece tough, so maybe I'm biased, but I see no need at all to get a 4-piece, that's more expensive and less convenient to carry around. I usually either dump some out on my hand, table or a piece of paper. if I'm outside my hand, at the bar table, and at home all 3 depending on what's closest or more convenient, but not often table. that last bit out the grinder I usually do on a piece of paper since the kief sticks to my hands a lot more. and if my hands are a bit sweaty I also don't use my hand.

The $13 4-pc grinder, on ebay(kellys), grinds to a nice powder for my MFLB. I do grind while the grinder is upside down but it shreds real well. So much more convenient than the tiny one that came with my MFLB since I like to pre-grind allot. I shred everything including stems with this thing...

So I thought I would post some comments about a couple of new grinders I acquired lately.

Mendo Mulcher 2" 4 piece vape grinder. It features smaller holes than the normal unit designed for a finer grind for the vaporizer user. I ordered this straight from Mendo and it took about a week to arrive. With all its teeth it rips through fresh bud with little effort. you have to grind a bit longer than I'm used to in order to achieve a fine enough grind for the herb to go down into the next chamber. The heft and quality of the part if evident upon initial use. The finish is machined look that straight off a lathe. Very industrial.

2inscreenmulcher.jpg

It does produce a nice fine grind. easily better than my volcano grinder (never been that fond of that one) in acheiving a finer grind. better than my old notch and sharpstone grinders as well.

There are two issues with this grinder though. 1. unlike most grinders there is no lip on the bottom peice of the top chamber so you can just unscrew the top two peices like on most grinders. you have to first remove the top peice. and then unscrew the 2nd peice. If they had a rim like every other grinder you could do this in one step. Not sure what this approach buys you....

2. The smaller hole's can clog up easier. The herb in the picture is some "The White" outdoor that is just covered in ripe trich's. tested at almost 26% THC by steephill. This stuff was very gooey and it clogged up the small holes on this thing pretty solid after about 3-4 grams. I had to use a poker and clean the holes out. Never had this problem on any other grinder but this is some of the stickiest herb I have ever seen.

Puffitup.com 2.25" 2 peice CNC aluminum grinder

The 2nd grinder comes from a great friend and sponsor of FC, Randy at Puffitup.com Randy had contest give-away here on FC for the 1st 50 FC'ers to PM him there username and contact info. 3 days later in the mail I received. 1 Fuck Combustion Lanyard. Will wear that proudly at the Cannabis cup here in a few weeks. 1 2.25" 2 peice CNC aluminum grinder in a velvet bag and something really really cool I will discuss later.

PuffItUp2PartGrinder-2.jpg

This grinder impresses when you first touch it. Its heavy. really heavy for its size. It features a mirror polished finish on both edges that makes for a more refine look than the industrial vibe of the mendo mulcher. Everything turned smoothly. No smells or post industrial residues obvious either. It turned very smoothly and also comes with thin black velvet carrying case. This unit normally retails for $9.99 with free shipping (at least in the USA) from puffitup.com so its very very affordable.

It also had no problem ripping through the white. no clogging because there are no holes. easy gliding and it did a good job and gave a medium grind. The grind is medium fine but not as fine as the mendo though IMO. I tried to capture a picture to compare the two below but I dont know how much I can make out. The close up photos I shot with the iphone did not come out so this is the best I have.

Finally. I wanted to talk about the coolest part of this eval. That was this new product from puffitup, grinder grease. This food grade product comes in a lip balm dispenser and can be used to free-up gummy grinders that aren't turning very easy. you just put a little on the male edge of the grinder and you get immediate smooth action. The mendo mulcher was already gummed up from its first week of use when the gifts from puffitup arrived. A little bit and the mendo was gliding as smoothly as new. What a great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe Randy can comment on when this stuff will be available on their website but I can't find it.

So in summary I like both grinders a lot. Obviously the Mendo is a luxury item but produces a nice fine grind for vape users. even finer than the 2 peice. The 2 peice from Puffitup it hard to fault. solid build quality, works well, inexpensive, great vendor. My only suggestion would be to offer 3" versions of both your 2 piece and 4 peice grinders. Based on this I ordered 2 of the PIU 2.25" 4 piece grinders as gifts for friends. I'll let everyone know what I think. Thanks again Randy for the goodies!

peace

I just wanted to weigh in here with my thoughts about the grinder grease as well. This stuff is awesome, and I really mean that! It has actually been a real help to me. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and it has become very difficult to turn ANY grinder. I don't always get a chance to clean my grinders with ISO, so having something else to help me is a true blessing. It's easy to apply and works like a charm. I think everyone should have some of this on hand, especially if you have problems with your hands.

An alternative to grinder grease is plain old lip balm, applied in the same way. I've been using that technique for years and it's easier to get your hands on.

I wound up ordering a 2.5" medium titanium 2 pc Space Case, currently waiting for it to come in at my LHS. I'll report back here with my opinion on it but right now I'm just very excited.

Alright, so last night I broke 4 teeth on my 3 year old Sharpstone 4 pc! Open to ideas from everyone - I liked collecting kief but its not a deal killer going with a two piece. Im looking at Mendos, SC, Chromium Crushers, Diamond Grinders, Sharpstone, or I was told that since I'm a vaporist for health reasons I should look into BPA free Synthetic Grinders as aluminum could potentially cause short and long term health issues. Personally, i'm pretty sure im doomed anyway with all the shit I've put in my body over the last 20 years so the BPA free thing isnt a deal killer either...

Wow, this is not the first time I have seen Sharpstone grinders break teeth, it even happened to me, and I had only had it one week! I called the retailer and they had me send it back for a replacement, but I have been too afraid to use the brand new replacement Sharpstone. So, it has sat, unused, packed away in storage for years. Hell, I have considered giving it away more than once, but I hate to see it happen to someone else.

I bought a MixNBall 4 piece as a replacement for the Sharpstone, but after a while, went to a 2 piece Space Case. I also just received a generic 2 piece from Randy at "Puff It Up." I really like the 2 piece grinders for a more fine grind, so I have been sticking with those.

I also have a MixNBall nano grinder, but I am not able to use it anymore because of my Rheumatoid Arthritis. :(
