Hoss 9mm Bongs

Kind of thinking about getting one; but they are pricey if you don't compare them to something like Roor. I've read some bad things about Hoss though; but the reasons that were articulated most was because they rip off some designs and bongs are supposed to be "art." Well, I don't want a piece of art when it comes to a bong to be honest. I was a piece of laboratory equipment. I want it to be plain and I want it to be thick so it's hard to break. And of course I want it to work good. I can't imagine what makes one basic plain bong cost so much like Roor does, so if Hoss isn't as good as Roor or whatever other company out there for a comparable bong, why isn't it?

Also, I'm looking for something I can use with my SSV and ideally also with the SSV perc I got. It's a 19mm joint though.

If you're looking for simple, but ultra-thick & functional glass, I'd check out US Tubes.

http://www.bitfreakglass.com/access/artists/ustubes/

They have a ton of brand new pieces, 7-9mm all in the ~$300 price range.

That hoss piece definitely has a fat joint, but a 9mm US Tubes has an even beefier tank joint (specifically check out the one labeled as "

Thanks for the replies! Which one is that one with the mammoth joint? That's a plus to me because it doesn't seem to matter if everything is thick except for one piece.

Oops, I said which tube that was but when I pasted it into the forum it came out black color so you can't see it

It is "US Tubes22 50x9mmBubbleBottom"

Not every us tube piece has the ultra-thick joint, but a lot of them do, so if you're browsing on bitfreakglass->us tubes, Just do ctrl+f (find) to pinpoint all the "7mm" or "9mm" ones.

One other note: The "build-a-tube" series does not seem quite as thick of glass. Also, the pieces with the new "california" logo (the bear in the interstate design) are the most recently made/designed ones.

I've held a couple of the bear logo ones. They're very thick, and damn nice. The ones the local shop carries are too round for my taste. I believe they're those bubble bottoms. I wouldn't mind one of their straight tubes.

Pseudonymous: get the Hoss!

You can beat the price for what youre getting, you will have to try really hard to break it, and if you look around your lhs you'll probably be able to get the hoss without having to pay for shipping. It's always good to support the local guys when you can!

As long as you don't plan on making YouTube vids then you'll never get bothered about your hoss! Americans have no idea what the (lack of) glass scene is like here, so I find most of the comments about hoss are negative. However, Hoss has filled a huge gap in the market in Canada and as long as you don't allow "peer pressure" to influence your decision to pay 'more for less' then you'll be very happy with the hoss.

Hoss is like a Chevy avalanche whereas the American glassblowers (us tubes, sg etc) are like the cadillac escalade - they both do the exact same thing - one costs more because of the name brand cachet.

I ended up getting the 9mm Hoss! Holy shit, guys. I can't believe how amazing it is. How do bongs work? I don't understand how it is able to be so much better and apparently give me so much more vapour. It's mind blowing in so many ways.

We don't all live in igloos, drink beer and fish all day. Some very good products come from Canada such as Inhalater, Arizer Solo and EQ, and Hoss Glass. Enjoy your new piece.

My absolute ideal bong would have no logo. I got the sandblasted one with everything clear and a 29mm joint so I can use 19mm pieces to go into it which seems way better than 14mm. It basically looks like something that could be in a chemistry/physics lab. I find giant colourful logos are kind of tacky so I've got no idea how anyone could make a better bong to my preferences.

I like it so much that I'm thinking of getting another one even, so I can smoke out of one. If I did that, I'd either get a clone except 18" instead of 14" but I'm not sure if that would be too large. The other option is to get a 7mm thick one that has a 50mm joint and a showerhead and 8-arm perc downtem. If I got that one then it'd be the vape bong, I'd say. Does 7mm feel much different than 9mm?
