not until the trichome shell is opened. vacuum wouldn't do that

edit to add: re: reducing the pressure and creating a bigger cloud.

i think the proof that there is reduced pressure and hence more vapor extracted is when the bottom intake hole is partially blocked and a reported bigger cloud is created ... there is no way the blockage can cause increased temperature (computer controlled), it simply must be decreasing the pressure between the intake and the ht, and inside the ELB -- hence more vapor extraction.

So, reduced airflow doesn't always increase temperature?

i don't see how it can. the temperature response is asymetric -- quicker to heat than to cool -- but the computer should control overshoot well enough to prevent an increase in temperature.

OK, think I got this... :science: Thanks Dickie!

Nevertheless, can the Cloud reach 220-225C if someone wants the whole package without the combustion part?

Not to but into your scientific conversation, but I think a third variable is how long you hit it. I feel I can get the herb to the same color whether I use my cloud on 3'oclock or 12'oclock, its just a matter of how long it takes. Getting the cloud really made me look differently at vaporization, like people have said you can vape bubble hash on a LOW temp. This would not be possible with a vape like the SSV. I thought I knew it all but now I admit I(and we) really don't understand this whole temperature thing, I don't think these slight temperature changes really make a big differnece. Besides I believe even smoking cannabis daily is not bad for your lungs, so I'm not even going to give a shit about what temp I'm vaping at. I'll vape at whatever temp gives me the biggest clouds and tastes good. To do this you are saying I must be inhaling benzene and all sorts of carcinogens, well then these chemicals are part of the synergy and the high, I WANT them. Remember even water has a LD50, so small amounts daily must be BAD for your health, right?

Very interesting discussion on the thermodynamics of vaping and the VXC's impact on ABV color. Thermodynamics aside, the strain, how it's cured, and the cleanliness of the ELB are all determining factors. I have a cool running VXC and get rich brown ABV that isn't charred.

I find some red hair and platinum strains produce lighter ABV.

I think I am observing this too. That the color of ABV might not mean how much it is vaped. You can have potent dark ABV, or depleted light with quality fast extaction. I think the browning is caused even by temperatures below THC boiling point (and is not decreased by underpressure) and it just takes time, more heat, less time. Brown color is cooked leaf, you are looking for invisible trichomes. We only link that because it is mostly in effecft together.

I would still like to know if it can extract cannabinoids and other substances that evaporate at 220-225C...

Yes...
Isn't that what you're doing with ABV?

At least what I'm doing.

I mean I vape at 200C so pretty much all that is left is that 225-220c stuff to be extracted :D

People seem to be treating these boiling points as if they were exact spontaneous vaporization temperatures.

We all know that water boils at 212F/100C, but I am sure we have all seen steam coming off of a hot (not boiling) cup of tea/coffee. Hell, water will even evaporate at room temperature.

Please try to keep this analogy in mind when discussing the exact boiling points of compounds.

I agree that ABV does not need to be significantly darkened to be significantly depleted of desired compounds.

IMO, one of the best features of the Cloud is its ability to extract oils and vaporize them well without charring/browning the herbs badly.

Now if only they can pump them out by the thousands with impeccable QC...soon enough, soon enough... ;)

Yes, liquids evaporate slowly even if not boiling. That's why you can get vapors at temps higher than melting point and lower than boiling point. But boiling point makes the vaporization rapid. More heat or less pressure -> faster vaporization.

The UPS rate calculator says that a package from San Fran to Pittsburg, PA 2-Day is $50. I would guess that this is correct, plus or minus $15. (billable weight 5lbs)

hey thanks man, ground shipping probably take 4 days long time for ups to toss cloud box around
