I even got some instructions done to go with them! Pretty unusual for me. As I said earlier, I believe these things will be self limiting. If the voltage is too high, early signs of combustion will happen. Nobody wants that. The sweet spot here is 13.5 to 14.2 volts, less than one volt difference between the low and high range.

I don't know how you are instructing your customers of course, but to be honest I wonder if that might just be to hot for most 20 ohm valued Ohmites if you leave it there for too long Rick.

I ran mine (with a resistance of 23,4 ohm) on 13,8 to 14,2V most of the time (like 12 hours per day on average), and it blew this week :(

I have used it on a unregulated PSU that in hindsight produced around 15,7V at peaks (the voltage constantly throttles up and down with that one) for weeks before I got a proper variable PSU though. And before that I stuffed my UD between pillows and whatnot to keep it up to temp, so it could very well be the damage was already done back then. But if you want to be certain if they can take it perhaps you want to leave one of your average or hotter running units on 14V for a few months in a row to see if it survives.

My beta unit was ran for over 2 months at 14.1-14.6 volts. I sent it back to rick, and he took it apart and there was no actual charring. It was covered a few pages back. Was the unit you killed a CRZ? Did it char out and break or did the resistor fail?

I'll stand behind the 14. 2 volts, even up to 14.5 for the Zap if done intermittently. Couple reasons for this.
First, we have been giving them 13.5 to 13.8 volts for over ten years with an unregulated 12 volt wall transformer. Another half volt or a little more than 1/2 volt will not harm the CRZ or the heater. The only 'bad' heater I have ever replaced was a broken heater, ie, the ceramic broke probably from being banged around. The heaters we use(ohmite 25J20re) are very durable and take over-volting for heat very well.
Second, all log vape designs are not equal. Some designs take extra heat better than others. At this stage of our business, I think the CRZ will take the heat and do just fine. Time will tell if I am wrong. We have seen first hand results of a small CRZ that was a couple months at least on a 13.5 unregulated transformer putting out volts in the high 14 range. It sure looked good to me and it was a little thin girl.

Which brings up another point. I cannot spend months or years testing units given more heat to determine if they will stand up to the heat. Our customers will tell us that over time. This is one of the many reasons we only ship to US addresses. If we need to fix something because we calculated wrong or did something wrong, dealing with US customers is quick and easy because of the US Postal Service.
I also believe higher voltage will be self limiting, ie customers do not want combustion so they well not push the CRZ to that level.

How about if I put it this way. The CRZ will take any voltage required to make any kind of vapor the user wants. Thin or thick vapor and everything in between. The CRZ will not take the heat required to combust stem tip contents. We take much pride in our design that does not allow combustion under normal use. Put the stem in and suck, no tricks or finesse required to keep smoke away. Turn up the voltage close to 14.5/15 volts or more and you may get some black.

i'm still figuring out the VV PS, i think it will take me a while to completely figure it out, but i've found leaving it on right around 14 volts for extended periods works, 14.25 was just slightly too high. the wood actually doesn't get too hot even when left on, and that temp is nice for vaping weed. it takes more effort to get an even roast in the CRZ then the MZ. you are able to get just as even of a roast, possibly even more even of a roast, but you have to work for it a little bit with the CRZ. rotating and wiggling around so that the heat gets everywhere. with the MZ there is so little wiggle room with the stem that pretty much no matter what you do you get the same results which were very even.

the thing i've been using to blow my ABV weed into was designed for cleaning airbrushes, but works perfectly for collecting ABV. it had an air tight fit witht he brass stems that slid in with ease, and you could blow as hard as you could with no worries of blowing ABV back out, and it can hold a large amount of ABV. however the new SS stems are just big enough that they don't fit into the rubber gasket anymore. so i can still press the tip up to it and blow out, but it's no longer a flawless fit.

again i love this bubbler so very much. i had no idea how much the experience could be improved. even with room temp water the vapor is always completely cooled, and it's nice and moist. with cold water you get chilled moist hits. it's great.

TL;DR more and more of the "flaws" with this vape i'm finding are user related and not vape related the more i use it. it's interesting that even with years of experience with a MZ, i have to completely learn again with the CRZ.

zapville is in full motion buddy, rick posts new batches up about weekly or so & what ya see is,what you get.... go on get one perty three you spoke of.... rick even get her out to you sooner than you think?

By any chance could you tell us if there are any with darker wood coming in the near future? I am just for some reason a bigger fan of dark woods

My CRZ is just a smidge wider and about and inch shorter than a redbull can. It's even narrower on the top, but I think mine's a one or two-off of the thinner size. I am a guinea pig around here.

Alright Rick, sounds like you thought it through pretty thoroughly. Justed wanted to share my experience in case it might be helpful

Kwepcer, I was talking about my Underdog, not a CRZ. I just thought it was relevant because they use the same heating element, although I must admit that I know nothing of how the internals compare otherwise.

It sounds like my resistor broke, but I can't be sure because I haven't opened it up. It suddenly started buzzing last week so I unplugged it, and the next morning I decided to check the resistance before trying if it would warm up again and it turned out there was so much resistance it was obvious there wasn't a closed circuit any longer.

I don't think charring is an issue with the UD design.

Quite a noble collection there. Can you provide information as to where you procured those zap stem holders?

karazi,

yes....
The three stem holder, was ordered from Zapville
The single stem holder was also ordered from Zapville. All other wooden bowls were ordered from Ebay for as low as $1 on auctions
Here below you see an Old Skool Zap.. with matching holder.

You are home mom? For some reason I had you due in tomorrow in my feeble brain.
No place like home, that's for sure. It is good to 'see' you around again.
We had a great day doing one of those Mothers Day brunches with EVERYTHING imaginable. We met our youngest son, wife and almost two year granddaughter in 'town'. Those things are kind of neat at the place we went because everybody stays for more than just a meal. Kind of a big family thing with time for visiting. Also helps to rest the stomach for another round. I am always amazed at the folks who do biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs when there is ham, turkey, roast beef, every kind of shrimp and seafood, every kind of salad and desert. Omelets made to your taste with any ingredient imaginable while you watch and much more. I save my meager appetite for the fancy stuff that we rarely experience.
Mama is out in her newly prepared 'cottage garden' planting some new stuff. Our oldest son finished the fence and rustic 'corner' today. Another special day for a fine Mother.

That's because you're a Yankee. To those keeping with the genteel culture of the Grand Old South, skipping biscuits and gravy would be like a Catholic skipping communion.

I ran in the house, loved and kissed on the dog, and went straight to my CRZ when I got in. So nice to come home to my warm little friend. :D And I'm talking about the Zap..... the dog is being a little shit because I went off and left him. And somebody has been giving him people food while I was gone because he's a begging fool. Behavior mod time!

So glad to be home! Good morning Zapville!!! :D

kewpcer, that was beautiful. My culture and tribe is different than many but we are all part of the same Big Tribe. Thanks for pointing out what you did. More understanding for the old man.
Vito, thanks for showing us some of the many Zaps that have passed through your hands along with some you hold daily. I have plans for your package leaving today.
What a cover your ass statement that was! "I have plans for......." jeees, Rick.
Back in the groove, eh mom? Get that little mutt back in shape.....or is that part of 'the groove'? Fucking little pest you love so much. And he knows you so well!
Another beautiful Monday here in Zapville. I'll be getting more Abysmal stuff out and finished to head out tomorrow besides caught up on most orders.
I have a new plan when we do get a little breathing room. I was looking at several of the old Blue pines that were not good enough to ship 'as is' yesterday. I do think they are big enough for a refurbish to a CRZ. We will be trying one today.

Also 46 years official for the two old Zapsters today. Almost 48 unofficial. We met in the fall of '64, making Minuteman missile parts at Sylvania Electric in Santa Cruz, CA. I was 18, she was 20. Good thing someone robbed the cradle or I still might be a kid! That is one key to life. Stay a kid forever but follow most adult rules.

Happy Anniversary! That "key to life" sounds similar to something I always say...Grow up but never grow old...

Oh, and I was born and raised in the south. Don't care much for biscuits (except the occasional Popeye's biscuit) or gravy. Or grits, I can't stand grits and according to my mother I've never cared for them. Hahaha, the exception that proves the rule, maybe?
