i always use a old water bottle and put a little iso in that, then i just toss a stem in there and shake, clean stem in no time. plus you can cap the bottle and use it again later.

lately i've been collecting the oil with a piece of cotton wrapped around a bent paperclip, i warm up the stem then swab it clean. then vape oil off cotton and toss stem in bottle to clean.

That sounds great, and like a good use!

My beef with the stems is the fact that the oil collects pretty quickly, and this acts as a mask (lubricant?) for the vapor of subsequent uses.

So that means, a new batch that tastes/smells completely different - will get the taste of the oil already in the stem instead.

That makes me want to keep the stem cleaner than usual. I really like tasting the difference between bowls/batches.

Every so often, I wipe the oil out. I recently bought a steel pick from 7th floor to dig around in the stem and wipe it with cotton, and help with the process. Then, you can use Vito's amazing trick to vaporizer the oil in the cotton. So now, I have a bunch of cotton with oil trapped in it, for a rainy day.

I don't think my method is the best, but - I don't know what to do with that oil, don't want it to accumulate too much in the stems, and I feel guilty throwing it away.

EDIT: I will probably be dropping the stems in the ISO bottle from now on, it's like collecting pennies in a way

That's a great idea!!! You don't have any issues with the cotton balls burning at all? If not then that sounds pretty ideal. I'm surprised that just heating up the stem is all it takes to loosen the oil/resin but if it works it works.

To sessnet- My question about dropping the stems in a bottle of iso is this: when cleaning multiple stems this way do the later cleanings work as well? Also how would you harvest the THC from the iso? I wouldn't want to drink or vape stuff with iso in it, and I'm not sure how you would separate it all out... ideas?

I normally drop my stems (have many so I can always be using a clean one) into a mason jar of 99% ISO about 3/4 full. I do the same with other glass or stainless steel items I have/use.

Once the jar of ISO is super amber (couple months with my use), I'll take my trimmings and put them into a fresh jar, shake the hell out of the already amber filled jar that I had cleaned my parts in and dump it onto the trimmings to do a qwiso and dab dab dab

When you make QWISO would everclear work better than 97% iso? It seems to me that the slightly higher alcohol content and the fact that everclear is safe to ingest (when diluted or in small amounts of course). Iso on the other hand is not intended for any kind of ingestion. Is there any benefit to using iso instead of everclear?

In short, and in my opinion, your correct. Some people don't have access to 190 everclear, so ISO is the next best. Gotta love WI for that. Also, it is way more expensive.

Actually a liter of everclear is like 13 dollars, which by volume is quite cheap. Thanks for the clear answer, I have my new procedure all figured out now.

There is at least 1 qwiso thread on here, and I have read people saying that Everclear has some kind of sugar or something, that doesn't evaporate well.

So, a few people have mentioned Everclear is not a good choice for vaporizing, but awesome for the green dragon.

If you search for everclear you'll see those posts and recommendations

EDIT: btw qwiso tastes pretty nasty to me, but it does the job. I would assume that Everclear taste worse if it doesn't evaporate as well?

I have to add that extract made w/ Everclear is a lot better tasting than iso.
It also seems a little more gentle on the lungs. Proper purging is the key.
Still seems to be a safer route than using butane which may or may not harbor
heavy metals and other byproducts.....There are a bunch of threads for these
methods....Every one has their preference.

There are many ways to reclaim the delicious oil the Solo produces. My favorite way is still CDS's way though. Just stick the stem upside down in a bong and torch that fucker (gently and evenly). I'm usually high as a kite after two or tree hits that way, and it's free!

There is a video in this thread somewhere where he shows how he does it.

I forgot to mention. Once you drop the stems in the bottle, you can't just turn it upside down to dump them out, because of the ISO.

So, I got along skinny stick (wooden shishkebab stick), and stuck it in one of the holes in the Solo stem screen (one of the four holes). Then you just pull it out - and that lets you fish it out really easily. :tup:

with a regular water bottle you can crush it a little so you can turn it up side down and pinch the stem then turn it right side up and open the cap and pull out the stem.

A couple days before I placed one of those little glass flowers that I have from combusting, like a little screen thing, on top of the load of herb in the stem. So, now besides the domed SS screen I have glass add too

. Ok, Solo SS chamber, then SS domed screen, then little glass screen/flower, then load of herb/material

, then SS domed screen. From room temp. to level 7, full loaded and kind of compressed fine grind herb/material in the stem, in just 1:30-35 minutes. Always using the bypass battery power adapter by Solo. A full loaded stem,very tight and compresses herb, gets roasted red ABV in level 5, always with and incredible taste, because now there's not any contact between the herb and the hottest part of the SS screen or SS Solo chamber, there's a glass flower. My guess is, the glass flower is acting like an inside/out heater in the glass stem chamber

It's really working for me. Next upgrade, try to find 2 big enough glass screens to fit inside the solo glass stem. That will work fine.

Is it bad to use the solo straight out of a straw? I keep seeing people making these huge Solo/Water bongs customizations and it makes me question myself whether i'm getting the most out of my highs just smoking directly from stem.

A very simple package arrived, but upon opening it I found layers of intricate care.. placed into every thought.

three tubes were rolled in bubble wrap, with two tags of scotch tape on each .... with the word "pull" inked onto each, indicating the direction in which sessnet wants me to pull.

These stems are superior.
There is only a small amount of play on the 4 hole bent elbow....
the other two have no play at all... and they plug in firmly.
I do not find diminished hits as Kevin, the Arizer "tech" suggested I might.
I found without the loose stem, and a snug fit, my hits were great.
I am a believer.
