If these two vapes were the exact same price, which would you get?

Me and my five roommates are going to invest in a vape. Our main goal is to get as baked as possible, whatever the means. Now, I have found these two vapes for the same price. Which would you get?

I am looking into either a volcano classic for $250 on craigslist,
or
A silver surfer for around the same price.

Which one would you buy in our shoes? If I bought the volcano I would just buy a new mouth piece for it probably. I have read the debates and usually people are against the volcano due to price.Well if that aspect were eliminated like in my case, what would you do?

Thanks in advance.

If your goal is to get as baked as possible, as quickly as possible, then I'd go with the SSV.

Bags take time to blow and the vapor is not as dense as a big rip from the SSV IMO.

:2c:

Edit: This should be in the Ask FC section, so it will probably get moved shortly....

With 5 roommates you could go with a log vape and 5 stems so each person has their own. They can fill their stem and use it with the log vape via direct draw or with water filtration. The log vape can be left on 24/7.

Between the 2 you picked I would go with the SSV. It can be left on all the time and each person can have their own wand, tubing, mouth piece so no one has to share.

If it's only between the two, get the SSV--for reasons Stu and bOObs mention. I have a dual vape, and I've only used the whip--never touched the bags. But PB88123 brings up a good point about the log vape. Keep that sucker on all day long, and when you guys are ready to have a sesh, get your stems loaded and extra herb ready to load, and pass that bad boy around. Plus, most log vapes (CRZ) are under $200 (including the HI, but there's a waiting list, of which I am on).

They are both not digital (most likely). One is whip only and the other is bag only. I'd say that is what it should come down to.

can't go wrong with a volcano. If you guys do not like it you can easily sell it for the same price.
Also you can load insane amounts and bake multiple people at once with the cano, dont know how that will work out with the ssv.
Also an ssv will get time to get used to it and to get the best effect, on the cano you just need to pick the right temp, its generally more easy to use.
You can also vapor-bong this thing, there is an adapter for the easy valve, i just hold my solid value to the bong and rip it. Works like a charm and you can get backed quicker this way because you can inhale vapor created with higher temps.

But in here nobody will recommend a cano to you mainly due to the price point. But since you would get one cheap that seams to be no issue for you.

sal69,
Knowing full well this probably isn't the answer you want (volcano, brah!), I'd see if the Volcano classic is in good shape and comes with a good valve set, especially the solid valve, I would purchase it, enjoy it for a few months, then sell it at between 350-400$, using the profits to buy what I consider to be a "better" vape - some that come to mind are the Vriptech, Cloud, Gnome, Vapocane, and the Extreme Q if you like bags. I'll also throw the Underdog on that list, as even my old style 3/8" core unit will absolutely white wall glass.

Why not the SSV? I respect it, it's simply a little archaic at its price point when there are units with sophisticated temperature control and a purer airpath in the same or near the same price bracket. For instance, I think the VHW tramples all over it all senses, exempting convenience, durability and the all-in-one aspect. I also respect the Volcano, but it is undoubtedly overpriced in a sense, and I think the 190$ Extreme Q is a better bag blower, while also functioning as a killer whip vape. I guess I ultimately think that neither of the vapes you are considering are the best at what they do at the prices they demand, but 250 for a good Cano is a steal, and you'll be able to quickly recoup the money should you not like it or want to change in the future. 250 for a SSV is just a "meh" deal, while it's a roaring deal for a Cano.

I m surprised that nobody mentionned the herbalaire with the 3 way valve set.For 300$ , just 60$ per roomate(and you can definitely get it at a lower price) ... it looks like a good unit for a bud orgy ^^

thats maybe because the creator of this thread was specifically asking to decide between the SSV and the Volcano ....

What I'm surprised at is that nobody has mentioned that buying a vape off Craig's list will get you a vape with no warranty. If I was faced with this decision, I would go for the vape that would fit my needs, and have warranty service. With the SSV, you can buy new for the price point mentioned. And, if you buy refurbished, you will probably be able to afford a portable. :2c:

I'd go for the log vape with 5 stems idea that PB mentioned. Just for the hygiene factor alone. Having 5 bags or 5 whips would be kind of cumbersome. Alternatively, having to share a single whip or bag every time would also be a pain in the arse. It's worth thinking about the group dynamics and how you're going to set everything up :2c:

Oh and don't worry, log vapes get you seriously baked, no problems! :ko:

Hmm sharing a joint or bong was never a problem was it, why should it be a problem to share a whip or bag?

I never had any issues with that, but you could buy multiply mouth pieces for both vapes.

It's a rare occasion that I don't recommend a log vape and this is one of them.

I own both log and whip vapes and feel that the whip vapes are better in group situations. :2c:

Just got to throw the whole $.02 in here real quick. If you are concerned with big hits and getting ripped and you are considering the SSV. Look at the Da Buddha. I have seen them new on ebay for $150 ish lately and its basically a no frills SSV. So if you don't care about the aesthetics then save the $100 and grab yourself a little something nice to break in your new vaporizer ;). Hope that helps and doesn't add to the dilemma but, if the true factor is getting ripped and you are considering the SSV then the DBV from the same company is the way to go IMO.

altough the log+5 stems is a nice idea, I think it isn't the best in practice. a while ago I took my PD to the bar, and we were also with about 5 people hitting it I think. altough it changed a bit, since it was at the end of the night and some people didn't want more after a few hits.
but already at that moment I noticed that it's not perfect, you're waiting too long between turns. it's a bit similar to being with 5 people, having only 1 joint in rotation, and the custom that everyone just hits it as long as they want(just relaxed hitting untill you feel like passing it, wich works perfect of you are with few people or multiple joints in rotation, but with too much people per joint it's just not convenient)
even if everyone only takes 2 or 3 hits, you're inhaling slowly so takes a long time.

if you are with 2 people a log still works well IMO, 3 probably too but never tried, but 5 is just too much for 1 logvape to have a nice vapesession. so going the logvape-rute I would say 2 logvapes for 5 people would probably be better, but then you're on a higher budget again so if there's a vape that can satisfy 5 people with vape that would be better in this setting. can't recommend a vape for this setting tough, I'll leave that to others, I usually vape by myself and if I vape in company I'm often the only 1 vaping while the others combust, or I vape with only 1-2 others

With 6 people buying and using the vape, bags would be best for ease of use and no learning curve. But for big hits the SSV is preferred. I'd suggest the herbalAire or Extreme (or even the Oracle). That way you have a choice between bags or direct hits. You could even get one of the dual mode vapes plus an SSV for less than the price of a 'cano.

Great Scott!
As much as I love 7th floor, and HATE the volcano pricing, if they were both the same price I'd get the cano. Thats a good deal. You can ALWAYS get the SSV at a good deal, so might as well snatch up the cano while you can.

As max said the HA was really nice when I had mine and is less than both options listed, but I'd still probably get the cano just to have it if I could afford to do so.

I agree with mom on this one- great as logs are, in addition to the pace issue that djonko mentioned, they're relatively low powered and this means that the recovery between hits is slower, and providing enough vapor in quick succession to satisfy 5 pairs of hungry lungs might be asking to much of an ~8W heater in a convection design.

A bag is the easiest to pass around, but it doesn't have quite the same 'bite' that big whip hits do. Price aside I'd buy the SSV first- but I'm a heavy toker and having just the Volcano would leave me wanting a little.

Vapor.wise
When i first considered a vaporizer i eliminated the bag vaporizers because i find bags too cumbersome. I tried the Volcano in Am'dam last year and it was great so i think you would be satisfied with it.

But in theory, and since there are 5 of you, i think a whip vape would be better to clean and to use. I never used my buddha in a group setting, i only use it with my GF usually, but the whip is easier and faster to toke and pass around. The design has many many many years, since shisha pipes also use whips in precisely the same group settings.

The Cano Digital shows the temperature which is always a plus but in the end, no much difference in achieving the desired state.

Also, it is safe to assume that not all 5 will use at the same time. Considering your options and price range, i would also read more about the Arizer Extreme Q. You can use bags or whip, direct draw or vaporbong or forced air. It also has digital temp readout and a remote.

But again, if I had to choose between your two original choices, i'd get the SSV.

P.S.: Feel free to ask if you don't know the meaning of a few terms, it is quite common not to. ;)
