Curious...

Has anyone else with an HI used a bench style VV PS like the one below:

There are so many variables you can control with the HI and I am now 100% convinced this type of PSU kicks it up a notch (if that is possible!)

My sweet spot in the temp range is 10.9V - 11.6V (**MAX**) How long the unit has been heated up and ambient air temp also have an effect. 11.7-11.8 = immediate chocolate brown bowl and 11.9+ = combustion/blackened bowl. Everyone will have a slightly different "sweet spot" and the experimentation to find it is well worth it.

After using some stem/tip combos my favorite is definitely the GONG tube where the heatport goes into the top of the glass bowl. A little manual dexterity and you can easily control the air mixture until you get your preference on vapor density.

This is what i m using.its a tattoo supply and was I think $20 inc shipping on ebay.I did have to modify it because its designed to work with a foot pedal when tattooing.watch out for that when buying a tattoo supply.most of them will needa little bypass of the footpedal switch to make them work.

I will post in Hazy and Oh the agonys power supply thread with about how I modified it.It works perfect now.I had another issue with it overheating too.you can see I bored four holes in the top of the casing to help heat escape from the unit and fitted 4 brass pipe screens on those holes to prevent dust entering the unit.That and fitting a heatsink to the voltage regulator inside sorted all my problems out.

these are cheap chinese units but can be modified to work 24/7. It sounds complicated but its simple enough to do. my advice though is spend a little extra and buy a unit similar to what jack and Gonzo are using:tup: .It will work straight out of the box.I just fancied the blue led display being honest:lol:

On start up I usually heat the hi from cold to 13volts and then drop to 11.5v.I can be medicated in 5 minutes after a a couple of stems,quicker if i push the voltage higher during heatup:)

I m using the stainless bowl or the glass gong turbotube at startup.you get bigger hits.larger surface area in the bowl and also the draw is a lot less restricted.Later on I jump onto the nipple if I want to take things a little easier.you can vape at hi-er temps no problem.you just need to learn the ways of the force:)

you ll need a honeymoon period with the Hi for sure....at least a week.Its a good time:)so I wont expect anything at all from you.

Very nice power supply mod u bwade wunner. I have one of the $40 ones with meter indication. The meter will act as a voltage indicator when the unit is shut off. I can use it to tell how much charge is left in my battery.
I remember finding that the temperature in my TT would change by 10 degrees for every half volt change.

The glass nipples are $6 each EyeFonez. I do make them. Just have been referring to them as bOObs glass nipples.

Glad you are finding the temperatures you like jackmormon. You may find that it will change slightly depending upon the particular herb being roasted. Great to have the flexibility for precise temperature control.

Nothing wrong with some bonding (bonging?) time with your new HI Vapinghole. It is hard to put down. Tough to type with a HI in your hand, so we might not see too much for a little while.

Alan - when my time comes and you send my HI, I promise a couple pics at least before I lock myself in my room for a few days. I owe the fine folks on this thread that much, and I want all to share my joy! Can't wait to see what you turn for me! Cheers!!
