I would certainly hate to have spent considerable money on and got to love a product, only to find I can't power it further down the line.... At this point a UK-friendly wall/car adapter is looking like more and more like a necessity to guarantee the longevity of the unit (HINT, @TV!).
I found this on ebay which is a variable LM338 power supply which you might want to explore. At least download the diagram as it will be the foundation for a practical supply.

It wound work great for an automotive accessory.

Hiya

Well, I think I've got my technique 'dialed in' as you would perhaps say? Had a fair few experiments now and I can happily say that I'm getting the desired result every time. Took your advice and I now let the unit properly warm up for 15 secs before draw number 1 - excellent. Only thing I seem to disagree with is the "faster draw = more heat" concept. Perhaps I'm hung up on my Vaporstar technique, but I can't seem to shake the mindset of "slower passage of air over heat source = hotter air", but who cares? It's working a treat, and I'm totally happy with that.

The only thing I (sort of) worry about is the battery side of things. Obviously I got the three pairs supplied with the unit, but they have a finite lifespan, a large one, but still finite. Bearing in mind I get through all of them on a daily basis (more on weekends), it isn't going to be long before the concept of replacement rears its ugly head.

The batteries used as standard aren't easy to get over here from my meagre searches, and shipping from the US seems high. Is there any other brand/model that has been proven to work safely with the T1 at the temperatures it generates? Apart from shipping costs from the US, the eventuality of Tenergy stopping making the units or going out of business must be considered. (I don't know if they're a big company or not, and how liable that is).

Great news, glad to hear it, thanks for the report.

I don't think Tenergy is going any place fast, I suspect they'll not only be here for a while but be expanding. The LiFePO4s are very popluar with several 'niche users' (shortages happen from time to time because of this), I actually expect more offerings before mine expire. A key to long life (more than anything else in this case) is heat. Don't let them heat more than needed. For longer sessions I often rotate batteries between every few hits to keep them from overheating in that little aluminum over they're in.

I agree, it doesn't heat like VG or VS but the system is different. The core is REALLY hot. It can heat a large volume of air fast (it works principally by radiation, unlike the others where it's all conduction and the surface cools). If you stop the draw on T1 stuff cools off fast (the heat says in the core). "Suck it and see" is, I think, the proper 'Brit speak' for the concept?

Worst case downside (no more of these cells) still leaves us with a few options, not to worry. And no need to worry about some mains run adapter......trust me on this one. More options will be in front of you fairly soon. In that vein, and I hope this doesn't get me in trouble, LV T1 cores are under test right now. My last one was too cold IMO, the next one is waiting for me to pick up. There's an option that works, but 'we' (means them, really....) are working on longest possible battery life (in case anyone is interested in that???). Best not to stress over the timing, I sincerely believe the next release from TV will be at least as good as the last.....or they're going to work on it until it does. No hard schedules there, stuff is ready when it is. Until then, improve it.

Best wishes. BTW, I recall the herb there to be pretty lame, great hash though. That was a long time back, I hope things are better now?

Nice one fella - I've downloaded the schematic, but it may be no use to me (I may have a friend who can help though) seeing as I'm all 6's and 7's when it comes to electrics. Plus, I've been hooked up to the UK mains supply before and it's an experience I definitely do NOT want to repeat.

However, I know someone who may be able to assist... If it isn't a secret, what's name of the type of connector you use for the "pig tail" that goes into the battery compartment itself?

Thanks for the reassurance. I'll be watching them closely to see what new toys they come up with next.

Not sure what you mean by LV? Oh hang on, is that logvape?

And yeah - things over here can be pretty chronic as far as chronic goes, but there have been some improvements in the last 10 years. Only problem is ridiculous pricing. I wish they'd end this ridiculous "war" and just tax it...

And your vernacular is spot on - "suck it and see" is the correct phrase for this sort of situation. Gotta dash, but I'll keep an eye on updates from time to time. Nice chatting ;)

Neat unit, be fun to play with and probably very useful, but NOT available to us Yanks it seems (despite the info to the contrary), try putting in a shipping address not in Canada......

Too bad, they just lost a sale.

It's "Low Voltage" -- Thermovape just released their Evolution product, which (as I understand it) is essentially a smaller & more efficient herbal vape. I haven't followed super closely, not sure how it fits with the original T1, but I think the gist of it is "batteries last longer & you don't need to futz with stirring/shaking" in exchange for a smaller per-bowl capacity.

Sorry, no, LV is Low Voltage. TV is working to make their 6 Volt ('Standard Voltage') work on 3.7 Volts. Several of the lower power products are done and available, this one's in process and being 'fine tuned'.

I hear you on herb prices. I actually was in on a 'group buy' in Saudi Arabia of all places long ago. Took weeks for this nasty little baggie of year old mids to find us which we gleefully snapped up and split. We snuck it into work and weighed it, it was slightly more than the going price for gold at the time.... I rolled tiny pins and 'lived' off a toke or two after dinner until I thankfully got out. To Frankfort, train to Amsterdam and a few days getting civilized again. From no alcohol anywhere to a Heiniken machine on the stair landing in 20 hours.....talk about culture shock. And the 'canal district' across the street......

Fun chatting with a chap from 'the old country' for sure. Fun things we've done with this strange language we pinched, eighwhat? You know we came inches from adopting German instead, right? I repeat, inches, not that metric silliness. Huxley had it right, a pint is not the same as a half liter.....

Warm or cold.

Cheers.

It's a pretty standard 5.5 mm 11 mm long DC type plug. Used a lot in CCTV installations.
I call it a male but found most sellers call it female? These days who knows...:suspicious:
Wish you luck,

Hey, was looking through these tenergy batteries and i came across these similar 3v batteries but instead of 700mah they are 900mah and not green but blue. Has anyone tried running these on the thermovape?

They have been talked about and we all have came to the conclusion that they will NOT work.

How about something lowtec for a change? This little grommet I found in my neighbor's garage perfectly seals my TV to the 18mm Dewar joint on my new Zob tube! :D

Very nice! A little off-topic, but I had to reply since I've got a 10 arm fixed-stem Zob.

@Pipes - Sorry, my bad, I wasn't very clear with what I wrote, OF was right - it was the connection to the battery connector in the TV I was looking at. When you talk about a balanced audio connector, do you mean an XLR, like you would plug into an SM58 or something? Yours looks modified, if that's the case?

In other news, a friend of mine is quite handy with electronics and may help me out with creating my own. As a numpty with all things electrical, what do I tell him I need to create? I'm guessing the output from the powerpack should be 6v DC? What else would I tell someone who knows what they're doing, in terms they would understand?

@OF - So the TV boys are working on a 3.7v version of the TV? I'm guessing that this would significantly ramp up battery life (see my lack of electrical knowledge above)? Sounds like a very interesting concept - I'm guessing this means a new core that runs on the lower voltage, or would it be a whole new unit? I appreciate you're probably not meant to be spoiling their surprises, so I understand completely if you can't comment...

Thank you for understanding not wanting to get too deep into things that aren't yet scheduled and may never come to pass or may be seriously modified as a result of testing. It's a natural thing to test out, similar testing was done to make the standard voltage T1 happen. At present, yes it is a lower voltage core fitting the same body, a new core and some batteries and you're back in business at lower voltage (and higher current). Much like the two versions of Evolution are now. I'm picking up my next version to test (3rd or 4th?), I assume others are testing too but the rules say I don't get to know that sort of details.

The nice thing is once finalized conversion to production for shippment literally takes hours. They walk across the shop floor and make it happen.

Thanks for your patients and understanding. Let's pretend I didn't mention it?

Materials are fairly cheap but shipping and finding. I got a few of each to maybe make enough to fill my car.
Besides the soldering, the rear part of the plastic XLR connector has to be filed to fit nicely into the handle.
As for your power supply enquiry, OF and myself had a few discussions a few pages back. Not as easy as a 6 volt supply as it needs to pump out close to 6 amps.
Hope this helps, and ya I do tend to misunderstand what I read sometimes....senile moments.

Great Scott!
Looks like I'm hoping to get the smooth flow tomorrow. I was shooting for today since it was like $7 to ship something that can fit in an envelope. I miss the old coupon code setup. Used to work out to free shipping on the small stuff. Ended up being close to $35 shipped just like the pure flow which I never use. I really hope the smooth flow is a better fit.

darkrom,
is it possible to put a blend of herb and kief or hash in the T1 units? or even only use kief, pressed kief, or hash in them?

which thermovape device is best for these?

I've done these blends but find the bud gets spent and nasty when there is lots of hash left to vape. With kief it doesn't seem to be a problem. I only own the T1 and it worked pretty well with both in a bud sandwich.

The only one the maker approves for this is Evolution. I did some experiments with T1, they were not all that successful. Bubble works with a solid bed of herb to sit on. Evolution uses the heat differently in that the load is eventually heated as a column so having the hash in the middle is not an issue. I would not advise kief alone in any of them.
