Happened to have the Surfer and the camera out at the same time tonight. So, for your spewing pleasure, my knob...and shit.

Two full profile shots, flash -> no-flash

Two side profile shots of the temperature knob; one shot of each "half" of the figured glass piece:

Then there's the even more beautiful elegance of this piece...the functioning element and the glass heater cover. :brow: The essentials, nah?

BTW, the bud may look kind of popcorn-ish, but it is actually pretty solid and is simply the smaller, lower buds from a very clean plant. This is tasty and crystal clear stuff...even if it's not the most resin packed. It's quite good stone-wise, and the vapor is really smooth and heady. Looks can be deceiving heh and it's all beautiful, really. :p

Nice looking SSV, your heater knob looks a lot better than mine. I really love the heating element on this thing. Although I haven't received my standard heater cover/wand, I am really loving this GG connection. Seems like the airflow covers the plant matter evenly, and I've been getting vapor hits as good as the Evolutions unit.

Real nice, I love my Buddha and only have it stock with no extra's and I think im gonna keep it that way. I have grown accustomed to the industrial look of it.

Welcome Beezleb, I enjoy this site a little more than the other. Based on what I've read, with the SSV and DBV sharing internal parts, I am recommending all my friends that like my SSV to get the DBV. Most of them prefer the ground glass versus something that they have to rotate, so it makes sense to save a little money. When I get the standard wand in a few days, I'll see whether or not I like the smaller outlet for thicker vapor, or the ground glass option.

Hey stonemonkey55! Welcome to FC. :D Glad to have such an experienced vaper as yourself aboard. I saw your collection in the Shootout :o

I see your liking the SSV, as well...this is my first "real" experience with a whip vape, and I'm definitely loving it. I love the heating element/heater cover on this unit as well...it's sooo simple and yet so functional. I did have one issue, however. The first time I took the heater cover off, I took it off somewhat awkwardly and I basically pulled the heater apart. :uhoh: It freaked me out...but it's really simple to put back in place. It felt sort of flimsy, but upon closer inspection (when the unit was very cold and unplugged, of course) the element is in fact quite solid. I also took the bottom cover off of the unit (the stand, I suppose): the guts are extremely simple...I like the relative simplicity. It's really intuitive to use, as well...but you haven't tried the regular heater cover yet, huh?

You should come back let us know what you think once you get your cover...that's for sure. I don't know that it's going to make a huge difference, but maybe...just maybe!! Seems like you'd be the guy to tell us, lots of experience! I'm eventually probably going to get a GG heater cover/wand as well...but that's probably not gonna happen soon.

Oh yeah and Beezleb, I feel you on the simple aesthetics. I was seriously thinking of asking for a simple metallic dial, like the one they use on the Buddha, with my SSV. I decided to take a chance on the glass and I'm glad I did because I love the piece they gave me, but I love the simple look of the Buddha, as well. I have seen some nice custom Buddhas though...heh it's all good.

coincidentally I got my standard wand and heater cover today. I did three rest runs of the standard kit versus the gg kit with the same amount of herb and at the same temp. You do have an extra ability to maneuver the wand and hit specific parts of your wand but overall I would say that the vapor output was not significantly different. I guess it comes down to whether you like a hands free vape or one that has a bit more user control. I think he analogy with manual and automatic cars applies to this scenario. Any vapor/ratio loss using the gg kit is extremely minimal. I'll keep practicing to see I can get milkier hits with the standard wand

Hahaha Oooo that IS sort of coincidental, isn't it? That's really good to know stonemonkey, I'm a little more keen to try the GG myself now. I was considering a GG SSV at one point and I believe I went so far as the checkout (I did that many times ), but in the end I thought the heater cover w/ narrow air stream made it somewhat unique among whip vapes. Again, I don't have a lot of experience so I dunno. I know I love my SSV, as is. If you do more tests and continue to feel that it's a very minimal difference (which is pretty logical..I mean in the end you'll go through the same bowl, extract the same vapor) then I'd be keen to try a GG SSV hooked up to a ice/water chamber

Hey PV,

I went all plain stock because of money but it has grown on me. If I had the money I would of more than likely customized it and very well may in the future but I have been considering on getting a large bong and running Da Buddha to it for killer hits.

So I had a few more test sessions with the standard versus the GG kit and my assessment is still the same. I actually prefer the GG due to the larger size of the air outlet. I personally think it does a better job of heating the herb evenly, while the standard wand, you can you begin to brown out an area if you don't twist the wand around for the heat to hit specific spots. I don't think it takes that much effort to hold your wand there, so if you like a little extra control, this would be the way to go. With the GG, there is the risk of it falling out of the joint area, but overall, I like it better than the standard. This one really does come down to preference. I don't think anyone would be feeling left out if they one had one or the other.

one of the main differences ive seen betwen the sv and the dbv is the position of the actual heating element

the ssv has the heating element before the bend in the glass, whereas the dbv has the heater right there in front of the bowl

i cant seem to locate the pictures i was thinking of... so my explanation might not be that clear

If you like the GG I would recommend you get a Dabuddha. The GG is the only thing that I can see that is different between the two. The Da buddha is like 100 cheaper.

Thanks PP, but I already have an SSV! I was talking about getting a separate GG heater cover and wand, like stonemonkey has, so I could switch back and forth between the two. But yeah, that seems to be the biggest difference...AoZ is saying something about a differently placed heating element on the Buddha, and I seem to remember something like that as well...but my memory IS a little foggy, so that's probably just heresy.

Although the heater cover can be pulled up somewhat, effectively lowering the element, the normal position is with the top of the element just below the top of the cover, with the top part of the element inline with the bowl. So there isn't really a significant difference there. The big difference (effectively a small dif) is the size of the output hole.

This is probably a good place to note that there are differences in the dimensions of functional glass pieces produced by 7th Floor, ie. heater cover and wand. The screen in one wand may be a little closer or further away to/from the top than in another. I bought a 2nd heater cover to get the color I wanted and the straight piece at the top (with the output hole) was about 3/8" shorter, effectively making it a 'hotter' cover and requiring me to dial down the temp a little to maintain the same vaping temp.

max, that's a great point. It's funny how we all get a stiffy on hearing the words "custom glass", but we never really stop to think that it means everyones experience is in fact a little different. As you've showed, you can easily compensate to find a "middle ground", by adjusting your hit style, the temperature, whatever...but it's something we should probably keep in mind. It's the nature of life, no? We all have more or less disparate experiences...yet somehow we understand each other

Edit: I can't wait any longer...I think I'm going to have to mix up a wand here and get started. You know this whole time I have been on here with you guys today (a self appointed day off), I haven't had a single bowl??? PD OR SSV!!! NUTTIN! Man...I am way behind schedule

Wow, on my days off it is wake and bake for me. I'm just like you, The curiosity of the other wand over took me and I just had to get it. They actually sent me another GG heater cover as well because my first one is a little loose and guess what, due to the intake hole being slightly bigger, it does affect the density of the vapor as well as how hard you have to pull on the whip. I guess that is just the nature of glass blowing but I?m not complaining. Even though I can?t justify spending any extra cash on vaporizers, I started looking at the custom covers and wand and wouldn?t you know, now I want one of those as well?.but the most bang for the buck I?ve gotten from 7th floor is the hand held water filter/bubblers. I love my unit! I like the ice chamber too but I already own other waterpipes with that capability. Having a hand held bubbler to moisten the vaporizer is super trick tho, my friends all agree on that. I?ve even been able to hook up the Extreme bags to the water filter to get water cooled vapor bag hits?alright back to work for me.

About $82 less. And the height and angle of the heater cover is different. This can be a key convenience difference, depending on where you plan to place the vape during use. It was one of the main reasons I chose to pay the extra $ for the Surfer.

For my needs, the SSV is the best vaporizer on the market.

Super clean convection, streamlined design, efficient, durable, customizable.

http://www.fuckcombustion.com/i/ssv.jpg

Solid anodized aluminum, custom-blown Pyrex/Northstar borosilicate glass parts and accessories, fully-encased alumina ceramic heater, thick swappable acrylic base.

Review in the works.

This thing is well made and works like a dream, I'm using it right now. :D

With this ice chamber / vapor bong.
http://www.fuckcombustion.com/i/ice-chamber.jpg

Cools, filters and moisturizes the vapor. Also adds the option of short term vapor storage. Couldn't live without it.

This one was hand blown by the same people who make the SSV.

Phew. Made it here at last.

So I royally fudged all of the tubing I received with my original SSV order by mindlessly covering it with ISO, along with the rest of the glass and PD stems etc I had planned on cleaning. Of course everything but the tubing came out squeaky clean. The tubing was hard as a rock; it had turned from totally clear to utterly opaque, and had actually shrunk up some as well. Needless to say, this hit the trash can rather fast. So I am tubeless at the moment.

So, having my PD I didn't really NEED the SSV. But you know how it is...sometimes you just want the brain crushers, and the SSV provides these in droves. I actually then decided I would finish my stash (before my abstinence break) in a new fashion. Being the leather-lunged individual I am, I decided to give direct inhalation off of the end of the wand a try (sort of like a "large PD" concept :p). I had thought of the idea before, specifically with the idea that "Hey, that would sort of look like a large PD. Not even close design/true functionality wise, but hitting it in this adjusted fashion really feels the same...with the short vapor path and all", but I hadn't tried it for its obvious shortcomings--the SSV screen allows quite a large amount of particulate matter, as can be witnessed by note cleaning your wand for a while and letting some residue build up beyond the screen... Therefore inhaling directly off the end of the wand would cause you to inhale some of this particulate matter that would normally be stuck on the tubing, etc. Deciding that it can't be any worse than bonging it or simply smoking a joint or whatever, I just said what the hell and dove in.

WELL. I must say, I quite enjoy it this way. I won't be keeping it like this for long (I have some glasswork and some other accessories--including a decent amount of tubing--on order from 7th Floor) but I do recommend that the adventurous among us give this a shot, or if you have already just let us know what it was like for you. Obviously a coarser grind would be preferred for this, but eventually you'll stir and crush the herbs up anyway...so in the end it's all grape gravy. A favorite position of mine is now to just throw caution and particulate matter into the wind (knowing as I do that I'll have tubing soon--and hopefully enough to construct and optional ice/filtration chamber, as perviously planned) and lay completely horizontal on my back with the SSV on my chest, wand pointing down into my mouth and my right hand on the wand to rotate and support it. This position is awesome for me because not only is it uber-relaxing, but I set up my full spectrum lamp behind me and watching the vapor roll down the clear glass wand into my mouth is beyond decadent! Definitely recommend any among the interested give this a shot!

Ah yeah, I will post some pics when I actually get the stuff, but I can link you all to my new wand right now. It's not a "custom" wand, designed to my particular specs, but a pre-fab wand bought from the "custom" section of the SSV store.

ssvwand26wg7.jpg

I wasn't really planning to get a "custom" wand like this...I really love the clear glass wands and loathe breaking an expensive one...but this one had a considerably lower price tag and I just happened to really love this design. I also feel it matches my original temp. knob and colors very nicely, and I've requested a simple mouthpiece to match the design/colors of these themes. So there ya go...didn't think I'd indulge, but I did, and I actually can't wait. :D
