Pammy called Grace to place our Cherry and Walnut order and asked about other woods available in our size and specs. 1/4 sawn Sapele... Well, you can only try... We were pleasantly surprised at it's good looks.

Seeing as you are turning it into a cylindrical shape, couldn't you save a bit of cash and perhaps gain some availability with going with plain sawn over quarter sawn? It will all be the same after coming off the lathe. Or is the sapele only available in quarter sawn?

I put the outside screen clip back in. After last nights usage, the screen was gone. I found it in my AVB, hehe.

Tstat,
I just got my purple days and I just had a few questions about it.

How can I keep stuff from falling inside? Most seems to stay in the tube but some still falls inside.

Also is it supposed to turn my weed brown? I thought it would stay green.

I turned it upside down and was tapping it, rather lightly, against a leather covered padded surface, to knock out anything that fell inside, and a tiny silver ball came out and burned my hand lol, how important are those balls?

I notice I dont burn out really when using PD but I find myself more irritable lol is that just me or is it vapor related?

For the first hit, hold the PD pointing down at a 45 degree angle like you would if drinking coke from a can.
After that, the bud is kind of glued in there, so it's really only necessary for the first hit.

Yes,

There just some loose solder. On a 0 to 10 scale, with 0 being the least important, these solder balls are -10

It's just you. ;)

hahahahaha that post made me laugh so hard!! thanks boredCanadian you just made my day so much better :)

Yes your weed is supposed to be brown after, its a vapoizer lol...and if you find you are losing too much weed, try sucking the weed up untill the bowl is filled....then scrape away any extra weed hangin on and push the bowl against you palm, this packs it perfect i find...or as lwien said you should angle it.

Its pretty much impossible to combust with this vaporizer, something that most vapes dont have going for them. :D

Hi folks !
just a lil update on the new style water stem that I was workin on

here is the best thing I have been able to make , seriously it is super complex to built but I have been able to do it , that a 2 sections maine tube with a gridded inline on the side to connect the 2 sections . I really feel like this one work much better thant the old model cause the is no much drag and the vapor is split in 10 smaller bubbles so it cool down fast and remove all the solid particuls of the vapor :) :

I should list some on my etsy site as soon as I get some more glass .

Hmmm... lets start with the dimmer first.

There are two basic types of wall power supplies. Regulated and Un-regulated.

Our wall power supplies are simple unregulated AC to AC 120V in 12V out induction transformers.

In theory 120=12 and 117 =11.7 etc ... And a regulated supply will be 120=12 and 117=12 etc.

Voltage regulates temperature. And if you prefer a bit lower temperature (with an un-regulated supply) this is a good solution if it can give you a slight voltage drop, some dimmers are pretty shifty, not a linear reduction... But lowering the Voltage applied to a Purple-Days Diffuser will not harm it, only lower the temperature.

Screens: You see the reason it's hard to give screen and clip advice. I can't know how tight the screen is and if it will stay in place without the clips. I use two, assuming the worst.

+++

I figure I'm paying premium for 1/4 sawn. 3" lumber is premium anyway, likely intended for flat use, and they are trying to get top dollar out of every bf.

I'll just sell as Sapele, it's pretty nice stuff. Was hoping to get some flat scrap, but didn't... :dog:

+++

Speaking of Sapele...

Taste and smell dissipated on schedule, a few days. Other performance characteristics seem great. Pammy came to the same conclusion as me, temperature wise it behaves like Myrtle, and it looks like Mahogany. Also it darkens like Mahogany and Cherry on exposure to air.

So, 12 units at this time. We will see if we can get more. I like it, Pammy likes it. :buzz:

Sapele will be $10 extra. They are available for order now on our website, just below the standard woods. They are all from the same piece of lumber, some a little fancier than others, they will be boxed at random, Grab Bag, No Choices (all leather choices available including Bison). Expect 4-6 weeks from order to shipment as these units are in the same stage as orders for other woods from yesterday... they are in the first boring stages and a along way to go.

Love CD's glass ! It kicks ass !

suppose i couldnt switch my order to the sapele could i? :brow: but cleardome, that inline is very nice! how much will those pieces be going for? i really like that design!

Frickr,
New to the scene.
I rec the PD to a friend who was looking to purchase something special for a family member for the holidays.
I had no previous use/experience with the PD..however after reading/lurking around this thread it seemed the way to go. It arrived the other day, and we were all genuinely impressed with the craftsmanship and efficiency.
So much so that I placed an order for myself...yesterday I ordered a Sapele (after going back and forth between that and Oregon M).
I try to be a frugal person, and initially I struggled with the decision to puchase. I already have a Vapor Bro's Hot Box...it works great, no issues in the 2.5 years we have had it.
I also dislike adding clutter/things to my world. However, I justified the decision by the fact that I waste a fair amount of herb using it, by packing more than I really need. The hot box is also just a tad hotter than I would like, as I have had issues with acid reflux and need to be careful with my esophagus. (I appreciated Pammy inquiring about health issues when discussing the various factors, wood choices)
Just to demonstrate how random things factor into a purchase decision: As a family, we drove through Port Orford a couple years ago and was sooo blown away by the area..Bandon, Gold Beach, Pistol River...we are planning on returning there this summer and really checking it out (if anyone has any recommendations on cheap/safe camping/boondocking areas it would be appreciated). So when I saw the familiar photos on the web-site, I took it as a positive sign...though it looks like things have relocated to the sunnier skies of AZ.
BTW I also really enjoyed the tune Drizzle on the website...kinda reminds me of Steve Kimock.
:peace:

GreenMoroni,
Wow the sapele is beautiful. Really wish i waited before buying one lol, and only 12 thats a real collectors item. 10$ more is one hell of a bargain, if I hadnt just bought a car i would seriously buy one anyways lol.

Anyways this thing gets better every single day as i learn how much to grind weed, how dry it has to be. Easily my best purchase related to weed aside from maybe the weed itself :)
The screens do seem to stay in without the clip, for the most part. I lost one of the clips already lol, but its only been like 48 hours.

GreenMoroni, we moved to AZ for Pammy's health. Port Orford area is beautiful and we wouldn't have moved otherwise. We miss the small town life and the people and the scenery.

When you return, don't miss the Cape Blanco Lighthouse, one of the very few remaining, working lighthouses in the country. It's on a spectacular point of land and you can take a tour up into the light itself. Grounds are free, Lighthouse tour $2  There is also a nice state park campground there. It's about 5 miles North of town.

Just beyond that on 101 (at Sixes, the sign says there is a town, but only a post office is left) and inland from 101 is the Edson Creek sign. This will take you 10-15 miles inland and it's a fairly primitive National Forest Campground, nice spot and there is a creek that is known to pan for gold.

There is also a beautiful place near Charleston maybe 40 miles North of P-O call Shore Acres an old Estate donated to the State, fabulous gardens and a shoreline drive that's very worth it. The park is free the gardens are $5 a carload.

Go into Charleston for lunch, not sure of the name (maybe Captain's Grotto?) it is just across the bridge from the main part of Chaleston, white building by the bridge. Try anything there, we were always happy. Nice view (boats and bay), great food, good service. In Port Orford go to 'Griffs on the Dock'. Seriously, it's on the dock and has a great view, and good food. The crab pasta is made with Dungeness crab caught right there by the commercial fleet. They sell and cook local seafood. Locals come to the Port Orford dock to crab too, just toss a pot over the rails, nowdays you need a license but it's cheaper than one Dungeness crab from the market.

I didn't realize you had moved due to healthy concern with Pammy. I wish her and you the best. She seems to be a very "up" person, and I sincerely believe this will serve her well in any recovery, as it always starts with a positive attitude.

IAmKrazy2,
Thanks for the good info Tom!
I have been reading this thread, but I have only made it to 180' something...so I haven't made it to your move..in terms of the novel, I am on the chapter where the bad guys start making cheap knock offs. This thread is such an interesting documentation of where you all have been..it's made for interesting reading!
The Edson Creek area sounds real promising. Yeah, the whole Port O area really pulls at me. One day perhaps. As I have only been through the area in late July, what is it like the rest of the year? I remember driving through and planning on stopping at some Norwegian fish shop that had been recommended to me, but it was closed...go figure.

Your question, "what is it like the rest of the year?" relates to why we moved. And thanks for the well wishes for Pammy, IamKrazy2. :)

June thru October is beautiful on the Southern Oregon Coast. It rarely rains, most days are sunny but the ocean keeps the temps low. The thermometer might hit 80F once or twice in a Summer. Inland it can get over 100F, but never near the coast. MOstly highs in the 60s, rest of the year 45F, same as the ocean...

It's November thru May that is bad weather wise. Rain and wind and more rain and more rain. The sea air and humidity and rain, rain, rain and a seemingly 12 month blooming (no frost) with plentiful pollern and airborne mold spores from all the perma-damp were killing Pammy because of Asthma. And she was getting progressively worse each season. She probably would have been in the emergency for treatment several times this wet season (and the nearest hospital an hour away). But, the move to AZ, has meant better breathing and no emergencies and this is on half the expensive meds she needed daily.

There were other reasons to move, but none as important as Pammy's health. ;) She has a couple of good friends here, that helps too. The dogs love it. I have a nicer workshop. We have a nicer place to live. Getting used to a big city is strange. It's been 15+ years since we have faced a 'city'.

It's Kori's 1st Birthday.

Crazy Norwegians (right on Hwy 101) has great clam strips, they are fresh cut and battered right there. The fish is good too, but no view. The view at Griff's (just a couple blocks away) makes for a meal you will remember. Both have good food. Both serve beer. But Griff's will be a vacation memory.

Wong's in Gold Beach for good Chinese cuisine, ocean view, get the Lo Mien and Fried Shrimp lunch, Mmmmm . Tell Amy (your waitress, it's a Mom and Pop shop), that Pammy says Hello. ;)

Thanks to all who have commented about so many things recently.

Thanks to those who have said craftsmanship rather than art. It's a craft, I'm a craftsman.

Pammy is the artist and has a painting of the Bandon Lighthouse in process just to the left of me. To see a sample of art , by Pammy, go here : http://purple-days.com/Pammy_Paints.html and here http://purple-days.com/Pammy_Paints2.html
