I can't imagine combustion with a Zap. My herb barely browns at all. Some strains will lose color,,but stay a little green. I vaped a pure kush last night that stayed somewhat green,,,,but I was *:mmmm:*

We believe our design is just right for a super vapor experience while also allowing for maximum efficiency in extracting vapor.

I'd certainly agree with this! Thanks for the very informative answer, the 'Over the Barrel' CRZ you sent me is easily my favorite thing in my collection and I've sent several friends your way. I've got a Cloud coming this week, but I don't even think that will lessen my love of this thing. The CRZ is built like a tank, is rather dependable and is no fuss, I can't imagine ever parting with it.

I'm also very much looking forward to snagging that new bubbler. :ninja:

Now that's something I completely agree with.

Any pics Jeppy? I have zero fear of combustion, but mine gets pretty dark.

Here's some ABV in a jar with an un-vaped piece for comparison. Flash on.
EDIT** LAST 2 PICS WERE SUPPOSED TO SHOW UP AS A LINK, BUT THEY DIDN'T AND I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO CHANGE IT. SORRY.

Wow, Will-
Great to hear the news!.. it has been a bit... and I am glad you pulled that trigger.
I know beyond doubt you will be happy!
I had to for fear of my lungs worsening I had a friend donate a PD to me but I was unable to use it after a period of time harsh and then fear of charring wood, where the CRZ is fully encased I have no worries. I am giddy like a school girl on photo day, time to start the naturals and cleanse myself of the pharmaceuticals proud to be a patient and now part of the zapville family.

I'm having the same experience with mine. The ABV is still green but I feel like I'm getting most of the goodies out of it as I'm getting several good lungfuls each stem. As has been stated before, I guess the wood species and shape of each CRZ still effects the performance slightly.

My ABV doesn't come out anything like magic9's, my old MZ was more like that.

I'm happy with how mine performs, especially with the glass tooty - seriously love the CRZ/Tooty combo for a thick and tasty rip in the morning.

J.R.R., thanks for the comments. We were wondering how that little prize was working out for you. ABV comments are always appreciated as are pictures. Thank you Magic9 for those pictures and comments.
I think different power supplies on different international electric grids can affect the heated air produced. The same for US electric grids. All wall plugs are not equal in electrical output.
I have one of those tricky variable power supplies coming this week for some extensive testing of different voltages in the CRZ. We have never played with a variable power supply and Zaps. 12 volters always work fine and 13.5 was too hot for us anyway. We are also expecting kewpcers CRZ back soon for a thorough exam of a unit that has been heated to above 'normal' ranges often. I want to see that wood.
If we can offer a hotter option for the CRZ while maintaining the integrity and longevity of the wood, we will do that. I again repeat 12 volts seems to do us just fine. I also am often filling the tip wispilly lately. Just a light suck from the bowl for maybe 1/8th a tipload. I still get 2-3 good pulls, then it blows out like such a little bit of nothing.

I still have not got an answer to my question somewhere, sometime. Is the quality and quantity of vapor produced directly correlated/related to the color of the ABV? Only dark ABV means it has been effectively vaped? I wonder how we get so much vapor but the ABV is not so dark sometimes. Can you take our ABV, put in in another device and still get a good rip? I want that answer. We do not use any other vape around here.

Sorry about everything out of stock. Once I get this latest pile shipped over the next couple days, I'll get some more done and up. I'll also be checking with Tim on more bubblers. I think he had a Hempfest somewhere this last week.

I just did a little experimenting on my CRZ ABV. I believe my brass MZ runs a little hotter than my new CRZ because the ABV comes out a little darker. After finishing my stem in the CRZ (using brass tip with bushing), getting several tasty hits and a few whispy ones, I tried it in my MZ and got one very whispy hit - nothing of note.

I was always very happy with the MZ temp/efficiency etc and don't feel like I've lost anything with the CRZ in that sense. I seem to get more rich hits per load in the CRZ than the MZ and feel equally mellowed by both.

How do any of you judge your flowers moisture content for use in CRZ? do any of you find if it is dry to the point of dust that you get less vapor hits or that it browns up super fast?

Not if it is a medical strain.. even the driest have trichomes waiting to explode into volatile clouds.
The driest non medical strains will give you a run for your money, in your search for vapor.
if dry to the point of dust.. I mix it....
Suck in some coarser herb, then top it off with a pull of that dust.

I'll post an ABV pic from my Maple Burl later, but I have definitely noticed that my zap runs hotter and cooler at different times of the day and night. At peak usage times, like around 7:30 p.m., my zap feels just warm in the hand. At low usage times, like 10:00-12:00 p.m., my zap feels noticeably warmer. If I happen to still be up at 2:00-3:00 in the morning, she's almost hot to hold in the hand. The difference is obvious.

I concur with what TheDudeNextDoor stated. Sometimes my CRZ is just warm to the touch and at other times it is almost too hot to hold. I'll have to pay more attention to the time and circumstances. Hard to do with a CRZ that sends me to south of Pluto.

Double concur, both my rockzap and underdog seem to run cooler during the day, and hotter at night after everyone's asleep.

Fairly convenient really, I prefer lower-temp vapor during the day and hotter at night for sleepytime.

I would guess this would be more noticeable if you lived in a big city where the energy grid is more strained during heavy use periods of the day (like California >.<)

Thanks to all who commented on the heat, the changing heat of Zaps and any fixed temp log vape that relies on a constant electric grid output for consistent heat output. We appreciate all the comments and more to come.
Nice vid NYC, thanks for posting it. Youtube is much better for vids for sure.
and Vito, a very nice demo of our plain jane glass tube with a short GonG stem. Thank you for the vid
Yesterday, shortly after my last post, an old customer Emailed me with his surprise that I did not have a VV transformer and was not aware of voltage outputs from unregulated transformers. His Email prompted me to spend a couple minutes with a voltmeter and Zaps. I always have known unregulated transformers put out more than 12 volts or whatever the output is listed on the transformer. I have always assumed that voltage number would settle back close to 12 volts with a load attached to the transformer, ie, the Zap plugged in to the transformer. The voltage does change with a load. Here is what I found yesterday in the shop. All tested at the same plug within a minute or so.
12VDC transformer output = 18+ volts, no load and 13.8 volts under a Zap load. No difference hot or cold Zap.
12VAC transformer output= 15.8 volts no load, still settles around 13.8 with a load.

SO......some conclusions/possible answers to an often baffling question.
1) Zaps are actually getting over 13 volts steady when they are at a good heat output, not 12 volts. A regulated 12 volt transformer will not run a Zap at the desired heat output.
2) As stated in earlier posts, most electric grids have different voltage outputs throughout the day. Here at our place we range from 117/118 volts up to 124 volts at times. That seemingly small variation in INPUT voltage will surely affect heat output.
3) We can do nothing about electric grid voltage variances.
4) We CAN use a regulated transformer that puts out very close to the same voltage at all times, regardless of the electric grid.
5) We can use a VV transformer to give us "idle" temperatures that can be perked up to plenty hot in a few minutes. A VV transformer will also allow us to have all the different ranges of heat we like at different times of the day, no matter what the electric grid output.

This is what I know so far. I suppose I have always known most of this but we always seem to get close to maximum heat from our Zaps at home so I did not look further into the issue. I also know this has been discussed on other log vape threads with similar conclusions but I rarely look at any other thread here on FC due to time constraints.

So we continue to learn. At this point, I have no "answers" other than what I have said. When my VV trans gets here, I will be doing plenty of testing to try to determine an optimum voltage, then we will look into the possibility of a regulated transformer as an option and/or a VV trans as an option for those wanting maximum heat regularly.

Just called Tim my glass guy. He only has a few bubblers done but will have more by next Tuesday so I am going to wait til then to restock. We spend close to a half day going to Spokane by the time we get everything done so I want to come home with more than a handful this time. He has broke several perfecting his fabrication process but is confident he can keep them coming once we get rolling. These things are not so easy to make even for the old time glass guys.
Also will ship the last of the weekends orders today and will be getting more Zaps up late this evening or early AM tomorrow.
Thanks again to all who have commented on changing heat.......it sure aint ALL the woods fault.

Zaplady suggested a shot of what these things look like before we do our deed on them. These are roughed out blocks. We first turn them center to center to a rough cylinder which includes the tenon on one end. Then the block is held at one end by the tenon with another chuck on the lathe for all the vertical boring(done horizontally on the lathe). We bore the main center hole for all the internals, the top hole that matches the ceramic insulating ring you can see from the top of the unit, and the larger 'rim' indent that holds the bottom enclosure in place.(yes, it is cardboard). Those steps take the blocks to this stage.
roughgroup.jpg

Then I mount the piece on the lathe with a very special mandrel jig that grabs the Zap from the inside. This tool is wood and it is long to grab the wood the entire length of the inside if I want. This tool also expands with the tightening of adjusting nuts. Now the magic happens. When I take it off the lathe this time, it is ready for a final buff and into the photo box.
Basically one step past what you see above in the picture and all the woodwork is done with the exception of the power plug hole drilled into the lower back of the unit.

Top right and left are Ambrosia Maple. I am about ready to start on one of them. So far we have a couple Myrtles, an oak, a cherry and the maple that will be complete today. They should be going up later tonight or early AM. If not up by 8 PM Pacific time, not til morning.
It is a Gin afternoon................Friday you know...............

I can't wait for my zap to arrive. When will you have those 14 mm Plain Jane Heavy Duty Glass tubes again? Looking at Vito's vid, they rip awfully fierce and I don't think I will have the money for the glass bubblers by the time you restock. By all indication those look to sell out quick.

Damn mom, I gotta say, after some gin and heading for the photo lab with a few beauties, I got real exited when you said you can't wait to see my wood buffed up! Damn! A fun Friday for sure!
They do look a bit different now. I'll do a group shot here before they go up.
