Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud

So I love my Cloud, this is truly the best vape I have ever owned/used performance wise. As others have said, that first hit lets you know your money was well spent...I was officially sold when I used it with some of my other glass so I could compare to my current setup. It was apples and oranges, the cloud is a completely different experience. The Cloud not only delivers the best tasting vapor you will ever have, it does it while simulating a smoking experience. Smoking experience meaning that it doesn't really matter how hard or soft you hit it you are going to get immediate and predictable results.

My only big concern/let down after so watching so many videos and reading so may post over the last year and half is the clicking sound. It isn't too loud, and if you are watching TV or listening to music or something you really will not notice it. I just had no idea this is something it would do, and does make you already start thinking about Cloud 2.0 and some of the small improvements that could be made.

I want to check though that my experience with the clicking sound/warmup is common. Other people seem to say their Cloud warms up from red to green in 5ish minutes. My Cloud has been taking about 10 minutes to go from red to green, and is constantly and quickly clicking the entire time. When it turns to green it usually stops clicking for about 30 seconds-1 min, and then proceeds to keep clicking. I would say for a 20-30 minute session I only get 2-5 minutes that the unit is not clicking at a rapid pace.

I do not remember anyone saying there was quite rapid fire, or that it was annoyingly clicky after full heat. Sure you expect to hear a few clicks as it readjusts to draws, but that sounds like something is off with your unit.

Letrab,
Ok, first really annoying thing happened with my cloud. I noticed it wouldn't stand level, and its because the glass airpath got pushed down and is touching the floor between the legs. I just pushed it back up. This is only from normal use, It did't affect performance but thats gonna be a problem, I hope its only my cloud.

Mine also came with the airpath touching the ground and off center. Pushed it in and just like your's it hits like a champ.

I received my Cloud yesterday. LOVE IT! All the positives reported by others are accurate. Best vape I've experienced! I don't have time right now to wax eloquently about it but I am thrilled to own one of these! Thank you VXC crew!!!

I agree about the clicking. If I'm near it in a quiet room it is ever-present. I assume I will tune it out quickly but wish it were not there at all and had the same thoughts as you about a silent Cloud 2.0.

My unit takes 9 minutes to reach temp and turn green with the dial at 12 o'clock. I would also agree with your description of how the ticking stops for a short while shortly after it reaches temp and then goes on to tick the way you describe - almost non-stop. I also wonder if this and the time it takes to reach temp is typical or might be something that is related to the most recent batch shipped out.

But damn, this thing is all we (I once got to try a beta unit with SM) said it was and more!

I just timed my warm-up to 12 o'clock starting in the morning at ambient 72F: 7.5 minutes. Have to say that the red-then-green glow top & bottom of the unit is very cool looking.

Re the clicking: Mine is virtually imperceptible. It does continue after reaching temp. I think it may be the voltage regulator. Now, I have flawed hearing at higher pitches (all those nights at the Fillmore caught up with me), so I'm not the best judge. And this is one of those things that is highly subjective. The wife has hearing like a cat, almost scary - I'll check it with her later.

The only improvement I would look for so far is with the passive cooling. The casing does get rather hot at even 12 o'clock, at 3 o'clock I can only hold it at the bottom. Appears to be a ceramic material which acts as a heat sink offset from the aluminum housing, so it absorbs heat thrown off by the unit and then dissipates it. PowerNerd may want to noodle more on the cooling design.

Question: Is the ticking louder than hitting it? If not, I don't see it as any noise problem. The loudest is what is important imo.

So we have had differences in heat up time from 5 minutes to 10 minutes and inbetween. I suppose there are some differences to the heaters? I'm starting to see some improvements for 2.0 as well you know SM is jotting them down like he said. I'm assuming there were no complaints in the beta's about the unit getting hot. But you think they would have addressed the screws scalding? I mean, if you have to hold the unit only on the bottom at 3pm? Then it should have better heat disapation or more insulation.

PS. My Solo ticks/clicks within the mid temp ranges only, and I swear it just became noticable after a month, it didn't do it before...weird.

I can't imagine the ticking sound bothering anyone. It isn't that loud and is in no way louder than hitting it. If it bothers you, put some music on; you wont even hear it then. :2c:

I can.

Not everyone experiences noises or sounds the same. I for one get headaches if I have to sit behind a loud computer to long, you don't drown that out by simply putting on some music.

Plus not everyone wants to have to listen to music just to drown out another noise. Especially when you have to drown out a noise from a 450$ vape you just bought. Sorry mom, I often agree with you and value your advise, but with all due respect this advise just sounds a little ridiculous to me.

No offense taken OTA. :D You are right, of course. I know a young man with autism that the ticking would drive crazy, so I shouldn't belittle someone's sensory issues. But for me, the ticking is so minimal for the time the vape is being used that it's a nonissue.

A small +/- difference in heat up time can be attributed to an extent to ambient temp and humidity. A second factor I expect is firmware which controls heat modulation probably by an eprom interface to the voltage regulator, thus there could be slight variability in the output of the algorithm. The former is to be expected, the latter is inherent in the performance design. Both IMO are insignificant.

Re the heat: First, as far as the "screws scalding" - um, I don't recall anyone posting that about a production unit. I think that issue was resolved. On mine the screws are no hotter than the casing. And let me be clear: I didn't mean that at 3 o'clock the unit cannot be touched above the bottom. I wrote that it isn't comfortable to "hold" above the bottom; that's a big difference. As it is given the Cloud's performance, I would guess that 3 o'clock will be used mostly to finish off a load and so for not more than a couple of minutes; many won't use that high a temp at all. At 12 o'clock, while the top of the casing is somewhat hot the bottom third is just very warm. In any event, it's perfectly acceptable to grip the unit near the bottom, and I wouldn't expect the user to continuously "hold" on to the unit anyway.

Where I was coming from in my "improvement" remark is that with the general public, if there can be a cause for complaint it will be found, and so if it's feasible to dial down the heat factor, that might be good. But thermal dynamics in a small form factor is a tricky business. Heat reduction usually takes the form of bulk and/or very expensive materials, or some compromise in the power sub-system itself. So that would be a design cost/benefit trade-off that VXC would have to make.

EDIT: So I did an scientific unscientific audio level analysis - I asked my wife with the bat ears who is super-sensitive to sound, to listen to the unit at exactly 3 feet; the only ambient noise is computer fans 15 ft away. She could readily hear the clicking. But she didn't feel it was an issue at all, not unless it would be next to her head on the nightstand and she was trying to go to sleep. In other words, a non-issue. That said, like with anything else, there will be some for which this is an annoyance - in product design that's called standard deviation. IMHO the cost/benefit to engineer the unit to silence will not pay off.

I haven't even heard this ticking sound myself and it may very well be a non-issue, but I guess you get the point I was trying to make

After owning the Iolite, the ticking sound was completely a non-issue for me. I'd much prefer it over the HSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS of the iolite. lol

OTA do you have tunes on or white noise when you vape? Could be why. I don't care if it ticks, it's the heater, as long as it's supposed to and everyone else's does.

Has a "burn in" been required on the Clouds? I mean was there any manufacturing residue smells when first fired up?

Can anyone with an EQ compare the ticking noise from the cloud to the high pitched audible screech you get from the power supply on the EQs? That noise has basically become negligible to me by now lol.

Not really sure why you ask, perhaps you may have misunderstood my post?

I was just sharing my opinion/experience on noises in general, not necessarily in relations to the Cloud or when I vape specifically.

I hear the clicking but it doesnt bother me.

The screws do get uncomfortably hot but again, I just work around it. We run ours hotter than you guys it would appear. We stay around 3-4 oclock on our Cloud. Thats prolly why.

My Cloud in its home. I really had hoped a smaller case would work but this seems about right.

I left room to hopefully be able to slide a Hydracirc in there between the HT and the Cloud. Soon as I can buy one separate, we'll see how well my plan worked out.

The upside is foam for that case is pretty inexpensive.

RE clicking. mine isn't that loud at the 9 o'clock setting. Matter of fact is seems to slow down and become muffled after it reaches green. I have to put it right next to my ear. My computer fan is louder(my computer is not noisy). Maybe the loudness of the clicking is directly proportional to the setting on the dial. :2c::)

Thanks

I had bought the Seahorse SE-300 thinking it would be perfect. Its the next size down from the one pictured. It would have accommodated the Cloud but not the HT. I returned it and got the SE-520 which has plenty of room. I could have laid the inside of the case out different and saved a lot of space but chose to go for maximum protection on all sides of the HT and the Cloud instead.

The SE-520 is a great buy. Less than $60 from Amazon if you get the grey one. Id rather have had the black one but it was a few dollars more and its not like I have to carry it around with me every day.

Case is water tight.. I tested it in the shower before putting the Cloud in it. I think in dollars spent versus protection afforded, its a winner.
