Speed of cure for fresh buds when making BHO

I have been busy making BHO out of a good amount of Master Kush I aquired from a friend. Up until now it has always been cured and decently dry. This time the strain has changed and is Bubba Kush and it is so sticky... like too sticky lol... and seems still quite fresh?

My question is what is the optimal cure/dry time for fresher buds when you're using them just to make BHO?

Will it affect the oil if I leave an oz or so out to dry quickly while I cure the rest so I can make a batch sooner? It smells so amazing right now and is potent as fuck compared to the master IMO.

I'll leave you guys with a pic from my past days work with the Master Kush.

The second pic is a pic of some of the new Bubba Kush I will be using next... the trichs are really clear and glisten like diamonds in the light... the lighting in the pic and my cam are shitty, I apologize.

Half of it I dab, half of it goes in the Persei.

Thanks!

 yum. I wish I had 16g's of oil.

From what I've read on the matter BHO doesn't much benefit from a cure- if anything fresher is better and tastier. Just as soon as it's dry and so reduced in volume so you can fill the extractor then it's good to go. Just what I've read- I haven't yet myself had the chance to try with anything that fresh.

So to dry out an oz quickly but properly should I just put it in a 1/3 open zip lock or should I leave it in an open glass dish overnight or until its dry enough to run?

it's my understanding that fresher buds work even better than dried! fresh stuff has more flavour and smell to it than dried.

I'd just freeze em and then pack your tube and run it as is!

I have never done a fresh run either though FYI!

Thanks for the reply!

I thought I had read somewhere that the buds had to be 100% dry before putting in the freezer as the water still inside could burst the trichs when it expands to freeze?

Some more input would be great from people who have made oil with fresher buds?

Thanks!

I doubt this as the moisture is in the plant matter rather than the trichome, to my understanding. Someone might know better.

Too fresh though and the plant's still got moisture= more plant volume/surface area = less in the extractor and a need (or inclination) to use more butane overall?

I've also read about fresh wet buds freezing and causing a blockage leading to a blowout, but if you make sure to freeze it first like weedemon says then I don't see why that should happen- I could understand it with wet weed expanding as it freezes en-situ inside the tube though.

I'd leave it out overnight in the open glass dish rather than the bag OP, but it depends how wet it is.

Some of the tiny stems snap, but most of them just bend. When grinding the buds, the weed gets stuck in the grinder and the trichs don't seem to separate from the plant matter, just stick to them.

I guess I'll leave an oz out overnight tonight and try to give it a run tomorrow to see what happens :)

fresher buds will produce a lighter color oil, that is more heady in effect, and not as powerful as from cured buds. your yield will also be much lower, but you should get some amazing oil that should practically purge itself!

Hey guys, I ran 21g of the Bubba today while still being really fresh and got back 5.9-6g of errl.

I thought that was a mistake so I weighed it on a few different scales and it all reads the same :o

The yield with this Bubba is AMAZING! I was worried when you guys said the yield wouldn't be nearly as good because of how fresh it was but damn...

This stuff smells amazing and is super potent... much stronger than the MK BHO and much lighter/brighter yellowy gold.

2 dabs has gotten me quite medicated... lol

Here is a shot of the MK BHO fully purged as well as a shot of the Bubba run today.

nice looking patty, how fresh were the buds? i was talking about super fresh, like literally cut from the plant a few days ago, if its mostly cured the yields shouldn't really be affected, though drier generally results in higher yields.

Thanks! The Bubba was finished being cropped last Tueday night. I ran it a week later and got the results detailed above.

Just enough for the stems to snap is fine, if you do it with too much water content in your herb you will end up with a lot of undesirable water soluble compounds (chlorophyll etc) in your BHO.

SF Giant,
I honestly like to let me bud dry out before I make the runs. I feel like I get a better yield especially with the nuggets that are as crystaly as that Master Kush.

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
My pref is to use well cured bud/sugars to do run (either bho or qwiso)... I find the taste much more appealing personally.

Cured buds work but iT's all what u want do u want a great yields dry it out real gooD... If u want the most tastiest dabs ever use fresh frozen buds(tip chop up bud pack tube then freeze if u freeze then chop an pack tube the buds are cold an the trichs can get encased in condensation then frozen an not extract) tip2( let freeze over night)tip3( don't pack tube to tight)..u will be extracting all those terps that normally get lost to drying the stuff will never shatter up there's to many terps (can u have 2many terP's?) but wen u do it generally the yield kinda sucks but the oil will fuck u up sum tga void made me kinda freak out that I made one time it was awesome!:-)...id like to try freeze drying(with dryice) if terps are volatile then a freeze dry method should preserve all them terP's for extraction ..get the best of both world's good yeild an good taste/effects..live resin runs produce oil that tastes as good or better than bubble hash...imo
