Vito, I am always amazed at your lung capacity. Very nice vid of a 'lazy' Sunday for you. Many of us do not realize how busy you are during a regular day. Maybe you could show us a shot of your 'control center' where you spend much of the day, always busy, busy. Thanks for that reminder we really should take it easier on Sunday if possible. Those of us with a choice anyway. Thanks for showing us the VitoMedCenter too.

I will be getting on Jeppys and several others today, including a replacement Black Locust for someone special. We have been very busy around here on non-Zapville related work that takes some of my day so we are again behind a day. I will kick that in the ass today though with several units ready to ship tomorrow.
My apologies again for the website low on stock. I do have some new very sweet units ready to put up, but TODAY, TODAY my mini professional light box is due in the early afternoon. I have been holding off putting more Zaps up, waiting for all the 'shooting' tools to come together. Late today we will get some more CRZs up, hopefully with improved images.
I'm not trying to do the pro thing so much as trying to show the grain/shine on the darker AND lighter units. My old ways did better on the dark stuff. Then, being I am the old fuddy duddy I am, I have to get a routine. One, two, three wala! Maybe someday I will figure out how to show them in a slow spin. Hmmmmm

goody, cross grain does look cool. They are more difficult to turn and we have to thoroughly test the heat output and durability before we do more.
J.R.R, your CRZ sure as hell should make it this week. Global shipping sucks. Alot of the hassle now is a result of 9-11.

The glass in our new Tooties is also thicker. Very durable glass stems that are simple and easily cleanable(all come with replacement screens too). I also have Tim working on a new project, an inline bubbler that can be used with the Zap upright. We should have a proto or two by next week.

So Rick, would these new zap bubblers work in a similar sort of way to the hydratubes that come with the Cloud? If it's gonna be something like that, you better have your glass guy make a whole bunch of them, because you will sell a lot of them!!! Heck, I'd order 1 right now!!!

I never knew the plane jane tubes were so long!! I have the last two tooties on the right, not sure what happened to the brass one, its laying around here somewhere.... the new improved one is much better though.

Rick, I'm confused about the system now--why isn't that one a Primo?

placetime, welcome to Zapville. The head guy can be very confusing because he has so very much spinning around in his head at all times. He likes just a few things at a time. My apologies for the confusion. As usual, I will try to answer simply and short.
Cross grain turned Zaps are not in the Primo Category because they are not "tried and true". There have only been a few that have come along. One of them cracked similar to NYCs Black Locust and a simple twist popped the top right off the unit. There is also the heat factor. The Master of Log Vape Airflow and heat through wood grain, Alan of TT and HI, has said enough about that subject to make me skeptical of this design. I am not sure how much heat we will lose out the sides and how that will affect vape air production. I will have a good idea on Jeppys unit tonight. BTW, a compliment to you Alan. You are so dedicated to getting it right. Your observations of log vape airflow and wood are priceless. Thank you. Feel free to comment......if you have the time.
Some will say why not just try it first before you put it up? Because they are ALL different to some slight degree and I can only afford to build what I sell at this time. If Jeppys Zap is not up to par, I will make him another very quick and very nice.

I do not shy away from a mess up now and then because then I get to make it better for the customer. We learned that one a long time ago. Easy to do, and customers are generally happier than when they first popped in to Zapville.

Thanks for the kind words Rick. Taking a chance on something new can sometimes pay off very well. Look how doing something new has worked out well for you. Always good to keep an open mind.

I started turning tops with the grain oriented 90 degrees to improve the balance. It is essentially a stack of growth rings. The density of the top on one side should be equal to the density on the opposite side. It worked really well plus made the wood very reflective on two sides. The wood keeps its shape pretty well since it is solid.
I have also turned bowls with the grain in that orientation. Due to the hollowing and the gain direction, the bowl wants to warp like a Pringles potato chip as it finishes drying. If the bowl was not free to move, it would crack.
The bigger the hole in the wood, the more it deforms or wants to deform if it is restrained. This can put a lot of stress on the wood. This also makes it almost impossible to chuck it back up on the lathe after it has dried completely. Some woods deform more than others. The size of the log from which the wood was cut will also factor in.
The grain does produce a very cool look in this orientation. It is tough as hell to sand it smooth though. The end grain really wants to tear rather than cut.
I'm betting that it will be very warm on two sides and slightly warm on two sides. I doubt the end grain sides will draw too much heat away to affect the roasting temperature. There are only two rings of steel in contact with the end grain. The small mass of wood, in addition to the insulation, should give it a fairly high internal temperature.
Lets hope it stays together and provides many years of use.

If you want to just sip away and function, the CRZ works cool. On the other hand, if you want a blast that will knock you down in one stroke, go for The Cloud. Or do both.That would be a neat balance.

I might get that other headford bubbler from ALT, but regardless of that I will definitely get one of specially made zap inline bub when they are released, I will be looking forward to that.

I know the CRZ will knock you down but now days we have so many options when it comes to vapor. I am happy to see The Cloud out there now. It is one fine Vape. It also shows us all there are niches. Many choices in the vape world. It is so much different now with so many choices that provide different vapor experiences.
BTW, our new glass is only in the "idea/design" stage. It may never even happen. You know how it is in Zapville...........always wondering.......keep those expectations down, as you have all learned to do around here.

The log vape and the 'big hitter' have always been a good duo-complementary models. IMO if you get a Cloud and you're happy putting your CRZ on the shelf to collect dust, then you weren't really suited to the log vape style anyway. Even with a Cloud close by, there are nights when I'm perfectly satisfied just hitting the CRZ. And as Rick says, you can start with one, and finish with the other, or sandwich one model in between sessions with the other. I wouldn't be happy using just one of these models all the time. I need the 'difference' that each one brings to the table.

I am really enjoying my new Primo Incense Cedar CRZ. I'll try to get some pictures up soon. I do have a question for the ZapVets. I notice my biomass is getting scorched on the bottom unless I pull it back a bit from the heater. I pulse it in and out now, and can control it better. I still have a bit of a crispy layer (very dark) on the bottom though, and much lighter on top. I'm trying to pack them loose (light inhale into stem, finely ground, no stuffing anything in). I just wanted to make sure that was normal and the unit wasn't running too hot. When I use it, I leave it on all the time and don't want it to start a fire or anything...

Boy does it hit well though, and you use SO LITTLE with this thing...!!

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your new Zap GreYAReA. The dark brown area on your material is not burning. It's just material that has been well vaped. My entire stem full usually looks dark brown when I am finished.

Don't worry.... you aren't going to start a fire or even come near combustion with the CRZ.

If I use a full stem, or leave it set in the heater during the full inhale, I'll get a small area of black at the very bottom. The biomass doesn't ignite, but when you rub it it does leave a small black streak. It looks like a little charring, if that makes sense. Just where the hot airpath first hits the material.

It does make sense. Cedar is a soft wood, so it would make sense that your Zap might run hot. Sounds like you need to employ "Mom's Marshmallow Method." Treat your stem full like you would a marshmallow; don't put it too close to the heat source at first. Work your way to having the stem totally inserted into the heatport.
