We will have to do some analysis for you as we do not come up with the shipping prices, we simply connect to UPS and they give us a price based on your location and that is as much control as we have over shipping prices. If $147 is the cheapest shipping option available then there is nothing more that we can do but if there is a cheaper shipping option through UPS, then we will ship it that way.
I know there were some folks that wanted USPS but as it turn out, the company doing fulfillment for us only integrates with UPS. We are continually looking for workarounds but for the foresseable future, UPS is our only option.

I've tried the Cloud at lowest setting as well, it is certainly not for all folks but for those not blindly (rather, quite visibly) chasing clouds I think it is a fantastic asset. I'm sure there are people here that would argue that its not "working" at that level, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder (and it wasn't a waste of breath IMO). 
Re: super fine grinding: I think people often overlook exactly what a "vapor" cloud consists of. Those higher temps that produce the almost smoke-like clouds contain particulates folks! (Water filtration is great for this reason, but bong-smokers are still inhaling/exhaling dense and heavy particulate-laden smoke despite elaborate diffusion after all.) Higher temperatures (which cause scorching) and a finer ground are more likely to introduce particulate into the air-stream (and not necessarily the "oh I see a little piece of kief in my bong" sized particulate, they can/will be much smaller as well).
Thanks to a resident smart guy for elucidating some of these issues for me.
I'm still enjoying the Cloud and HT quite a bit.

SM55, as excited as I am to buy your product, my heart just sank when I read that you will ONLY be using UPS at this time. This means i'm basically going to be anally raped with import fees into canada, making the Cloud cost alot more than the $450. Why give in to such an EVIL company? I dunno man, don't see how USPS can't be a better option.

Alright so I'm a little confused here. I got my original preorder confirmation email on 2011-05-07 09:07. So I fall under the special preorder price. Do I have to do that checkout link email that they sent a few months ago or do we checkout when it's finally our turn in line? If the latter, then are they just going off of our original HT preference as our choice of HT? I just want to make sure I'm all up to date and my name is on that official preorder list....
ps: Hope all those with a cloud are enjoying it and I wish patience to all those, like me, who are still waiting for our number to be called.

I've been in business 11 years myself, and have a good audience base overseas. I'll let you know what you can expect using UPS for international:
1 - RIDICULOUS costs and fees (USPS is a small fraction)
2 - A higher percentage of delays, stopped shipments, and refusals
3 - Excessive paperwork (unless your shipper does this for you).
4 - A higher volume of customer communication (complaining/dealing with the above)
With the HUGE buzz on the Cloud, you're in better shape than most. Still, I expect the high shipping fees will lose you a few sales, and the man hours needed to deal with all these deliveries to cost you guys a bit too. In the long run, you'll probably be much better off making an arrangement with a EU based shipping facility or vendor, or reworking your U.S. delivery software/warehouse/fulfillment to include USPS.
UPS, and FEDEX and DHL for that matter, have always been our last resorts (read never used) for international.. Just a mess they are..

My Cloud is on the UPS truck out for delivery!!!!! Every time someone comes through the front door at the office I'm gonna jump out of chair to check if it's the UPS guy. lol

My short story with UPS
Ordered Benjamin Discovery (airgun) - 320$
UPS shipping - 120$
After it arrived in Croatia they didn't inform me about it at all.
I called them to check shipment status, and package sat at customs for a week!
Every day of "storage" at customs - 8$ = total 56$
(And on top of 320$+120$+56$ i had to pay 22% state tax and 7% customs tax.)
When they (UPS) finally picked it up, they told me I need to pay additional 107$ for UCD*
which can only be filled by shipping agent, and if I don't pay they would ship package back.
*UCD - Unique Customs Declaration - which is not even needed for packages under 900$ value,
but they do it anyway because it's easier for them and they make some extra money.
Airgun - 320$
Shipping - 176$
Taxes - 150$
Additional bullshit - 107$
Fact that I didn't kill some UPShithead that day - Priceless
So by this, for VXC, I would end up with Total - 740$ in best case, or 850$+ in worst.

stonemonkey55: Please do all you can to find a way to use USPS to ship to Canada. USPS just turns the package over to Canada Post, who delivers it without a hitch. The courier companies hold your package for ransom. UPS in particular is well known for exorbitant "brokerage" fees and for lying about it. Here's a blog and a long thread on the topic: UPS/FedEx Brokerage Fee – avoid scam (Canada). It's well worth reading through and it could save people money.
As I've stated here before, I refuse to deal with a company that uses UPS for cross-border shipping.

We hear everyone loud and clear but as it turns out, it is currently not an option for us. This was brought up last November and we have been investigating different ways we can utilize USPS with our existing system but it will take quite a bit of customization that our fulfillment center is just not quite ready to do. We see this as something very important and we will continue to push for this functionality but for now, we are confined using our existing infrastructure.

There are loads to choose from. The one I use charges $8.50 per package, and I think it might even have better deals on the actual usps shipping.
