Butane Torches

ok so im on the hunt for a quality butane torch that wont cost more than $30. been looking at Blazer, BernzoMatic, and few others. i think im looking for a pistol grip style that can stand up on its own, but do sort of like the idea of a straight or "pencil" style torch as well.

what do you recommend and why?

It's basically the only one that has an off switch as far as I know (I did quite a lot of research on these).

This means I can turn it off with a press of my thumb before putting it down, instead of putting down my bong first so I have two hands free to close a valve, which I'm usually to lazy/hasty to do, which means I end up putting the blazing torch on my couch to often during a session. That wasn't even my longest sentence ever btw.

It also means this one stays at the same flame height so you don't have to mess with that and find the desired flame height every time you turn it on. It's just press and go, press and off, which makes it super nice to use.

Besides that it is of really nice quality and it has a huge tank, but you could find those qualities for less $ of course.

@ 2clicker. I was using a pen torch to start with and wouldn't recommend it. A stand-up pistol grip is definitely more manageable and less prone to causing problems imo

I'm using one of these at the moment and find it perfect for me for the Vapocane and Glass Nail/ Oil Dome.

is the iroda pt-200 the same as the solder-it pt-200...? they look the same.

Haha I was thinking just the other day that we needed a proper torch thread here on FC, and was meaning to start one. Lot's of good info about, but spread between several vape specific threads.

What flame size are you looking for OP? That was the difficulty in my recent purchase as there's not much information given about the size of the flames, and I wanted BIG.

I was looking to buy another torch having stood on my Honest Torch and cracked it and broken the flame lock switch.

This was a pretty reliable torch, until I stood on it, and really great value but it didn't quite have enough ooomph IMO for heating my Ti nail or pad. I just felt like I was spending too much time at it. I'm just impatient if there's a tool available that could do it quicker. So I wanted something slightly bigger.

First off I went for a huge full size bernzomatic torch with the screw on canister, but this is unwieldy beast was overkill and didn't have a sharp enough flame- instead it was a triple jet wide flame. Probably great for plumbers, but not me.


Then I considered the Iroda PT-200, as they're apparently proper reliable tools, but that kind of looked similar in flame size to the Honest Torch. The PT-550 looked closer to the size I wanted, but cost a good bit more than I wanted to pay. I think they are both a much more reasonable price in the US market place.

I ended up going with a Master Class Chefs torch, and it kicks arse.

It's seriously awesome. Just what I was looking for. The flame is twice as fierce as that on the Honest, and the tank is pretty huge and seems to last for ages, much to my surprise. feels well made, comes with a base, was reasonable prices, and meets British safety standards (which I figured was worthwhile with a large-ish tankful of highly flammable gas)

I can recommend this upgrade in flame size to anyone else impatient when heating their nail/pad. With this it takes just seconds. I can also see this being good for some of the retained heat type vapes (Supreme, Gnome, Vapocane etc), but far to big to be used with and of the direct flame inhalation vapes. Not sure if all brulee torches are this sized flame though.

But it's pretty chunky- definitely just a home torch. I also need something more portable- ideally something that will fit in my Axe Pack along with my mini bubbler. I've ordered this off DX, but I think it'll be too big.

I'm thinking this pen style torch might be better, but I've a feeling there's going to be some compromise on the size of the flame. It says up to 45mm - is that just the central blue bit do you think? It looks a fair nozzle size- similar to the Honest workshop torch above maybe.

I learned this tip and I hope you'll like it. Bed Bath and Beyond carries two sizes of creme brulee torches. One is $20 the other is $30. So if you can't wait for it those stores are common run out nd get one

Iroda and Pro-torch are the same, but the 220 is the only model with the kill-switch unfortunately.

I love it. It was my fav lighter when I was smoking (not doing that anymore) or for use with my vapo bowls (don't use those anymore). I don't think it's powerful enough for the Vapocane though. I mean, it'll work, but it'll take a lot longer than with my Iroda (I only use the retained heating method). I think I'm going to buy it a Gnome so we can be together again.

It is sensitive to un-pure butane though, and it is a bit big and will probably break eventually in tight jeans pockets. It is small enough for larger coat pockets though, think Solo size/weight (aprox).

I have that same honest torch wat, and same complaint about flame size. The torch itself is great for 10$ or whatever it was. Its my first torch and i thought they were all the same, man was i wrong. My buddys vector has a bigger flame on the lowest setting then mine on highest. And it doesnt hold much butane, i feel like im refilling every couple days.

My suggestion is not to cheap out on these torches, you get what you pay for. Bed bath and beyond seem to be good torches for the money, but i hear you will be replacing them every 6-8months so that could get pricey. Vectors have a 5 year warranty i believe.

Looking for a reliable butane torch. Plus factors are: stand up ability, always on setting, as well as a replacable piezo if ignition is electric.
Any recommendations?

i didnt pay that much though i got mine for 50-something dollars at my local headshop and i know its available on amazon for even less then that.

the turn on switch is very cool too.first you turn the knob to put on the gas and then push it in to ignite. to turn it off you slowly turn the dial all the way down until its snug but not over tightened. so it can sit flat on a table and stay on

my new favorite is the Master Appliance MT-70. It has taken a few months of heavy use without a problem and cost a lot less than my other torches.

i wrapped a twist (bread) tie around the safety knob (under the trigger) for one handed operation.

the clear, disposable looking lighter it comes with is refillable.
DON'T USE THE GAS IN THAT LIGHTER. Empty it and refill with a good gas.
whatever garbage was in it made funny colored, smelly, sputtering flame and may damage the torch in my opinion.
overall, the little guy can make a good flame, but can't sustain it for very long, as if needing to build up pressure after some use.

Check this out. 30 dollars and its the same as the 50-60 dollar vector torch. HUGE flame, heats TI things up incredibly quick. Got one from Bed Bath and Beyond locally for 30 dollars, same price as amazon. I highly recommend this torch.

I guess it depends on what your using it for. I dab off the healthstone, so a lighter torch works well. I got a xikar trezo and was considering the vector thundra. If i dabbed on a nail, id definately have a big torch.

That BonJour torch ^ comes with a 30 day warranty for $30. The Wall-Lenk LPT-200 is $5 cheaper and has a 5 yr. warranty.

I upgraded my torch a few weeks ago. I was gonna spend $60 or so on a vector or equivalent, but went with a propane torch instead. the only downside really is that it's much clunkier and doesn't have an auto ignite. however, it is vastly less expensive: for 12 bucks at home depot, I got a manual light torch head along with a large gas cylinder. if you want to throw out the extra cash (+20 or so), a very nice piezo ignition head may be had. propane also has the advantage of being cheaper and burning hotter.

You can re-size a picture by uploading it to a website like www.Tinypic.com (you can just use the URL dont need to save it), and they give you an option for different resizing.

I would go to your local Bed Bath and Beyond. Get the 10-15% off coupon in your Sunday newspaper and go get the torch. It's basically just as good as the 70$ vector torch on ALT. Just my opinion
