The munchies

How can we combat the extreme munchies? Where is the borderline from eating to survive to eating for amusement to scarving down sandwhiches like f*ckin scoobydoo and shaggy . I am doing so right now. I just ate a 2 peanut butter sandwhiches a bunch of chips and salsa 4 corn muffins. Already today besides that I've had 2 eggs aaand a bunch of sh*t damn. I'm tellin you I need to get a grip. If there were any females around I definitely would not be doing this. :peace:

The trick is to eat a small/medium meal before having a sesh.

If you vape when you already haven't eaten for a while, once the munchies hit they'll be at 2x or 3x the strength :o

I definitely feel as if smoking acted more like an appetite suppressant and now that I've switched to vaping my appetite is increased. Has anybody else felt like this?

I did at first now its completely opposite, your body will get use to it. When I first started vaping I would go on munchie binges now I dont even get the munchies.

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Been partaking over 30 yrs and smoking OR vaping still gives me the munchies....... but then again, I'm pretty much a chocoholic anyways ;)

I live this almost every time I vape. To the point that I'm semi ashamed of myself:ko:

My experience level does not give me the knowledge of what strain of herb I'm vaping, so I don't know if different types change the level of munchie eating....?
Also I vape at number 5 on a volcano unit, (can't recall temp) should I change my temp setting to combat the munchies?

I have had some really tough times attempting to control my munchies. Usually I find myself wanting to leave the house and go out and get sweet stuff or really crappy food. It is as if I can almost not control myself while in that altered state of mind. I try to set limits sometimes and say I am only going to drink tea while I vape, but it almost always fails and I find food.

I could really use some tips on trying to help improve this. I have tried eating before a session but still find myself going for sweets and wanting "more". I just feel that once I alter my state of mind, my subconscious takes over and I can't have "control". Any ideas?

Well if you succeed in becoming a raw vegan :) All your munchies will be healthy food.. so you won't have to fight them :). My bad munchies crave stopped.. when i gave up crap sugars, meat, and cooked food..
There is a saying... "Your plate is full, but your food is empty." So muchies like chips ans sweets are basicly empty ... thats why your brain never gets satisfied...
Empty food has much to do with overeating too.. There is two cases in that your brain stops the hunger.
first case... :
You have eaten the right food and your brains tells you that you got all you need...
Second case..
You eat a lot of "empty food" till you feel your belly.. and your brains stops the hunger.. cause he indicates that there is no more place for food..

I've never shared my personal journey with the munchies, but it seems appropriate so here I go...

When I first began smoking pot on a regular basis, the munchies hit me really hard. Me and my buddies would joke about it and order ungodly amounts of take out to see who could eat more. It was insanity. I began to gain weight as a result and I wasn't happy about it.

Then, one day in my stoned state, I suddenly realized that the munchies were all in my mind. When I got the munchies, no matter how much I ate, I still felt hungry. It suddenly dawned on me that the munchies would be present after smoking (this is way before I had ever even heard about vaping) whether I chose to eat or not.

Once I realized that I felt hungry because of the pot - and not because of the fact that my body was actually hungry - it made sense to me that either choosing to eat or not to eat had no impact on my condition. In other words, eating didn't really make my muchies go away.

So I stopped myself from eathing when the munchies set in with the knowledge that un-necessary food intake would not alieviate the condition. Lo and behold, the munchies as I once knew them went away entirely. I can honestly say that I no longer get the munchies now. I have fond memories of those nights with my buddies gouging through a Roman feast stoned out of our gords, but I certainly do not miss the weight issues that come with it.

not quite there Stu, but im getting closer.

my experiences with the munchies parallels the others here. before i ever toked i already enjoyed a bit of the munchies but it was very much controlled and easy to stop. i went directly into vaping with only occasional combust and my munchies took on a life of their own...it was like my digestive system is high as fuck. i have gained a few pounds since toking but nothing excessive, less than 10lbs id say...im less concerned with weight gain and more concerned with how the food im eating affects my body in other ways (ive watched all the documentaries to mention and eat organic local foods as often as i can afford). anyhow im getting better about the munchies but for me i have a different approach...

i tend to simply force or put myself into a situation where overeating of bad food is hard...such as being in the woods with only water and veggies or getting so vaped i cant move much anyhow...when i come up from that im usually too lethargic to give a fuck about walking into the kitchen (1-2 bowls = munchies, 3-4+ = what's a munchie?). over time this has helped to develop a habit so i dont have to isolate myself so much now. also, i give myself a treat about once a month and just let loose with the food, sort of a binge i guess but its not as excessive as it sounds (i order take out and maybe bake some cookies, ya its excessive but hardly where i was lol)...its been a gradual process for me and im far from where i started so its positive and getting better.

im sure exercise would help but i dont want to mask the internal effects of binge eating shit food, it really needs to be an occasional thing or it will effect you in very negative ways down the road...least it can, im sure there are exceptions of course, damn them!

Very good points Abysmal. I am still working on mainly raw vegan, but it has been extra hard with my girlfriend being a very diverse eater;) lol. I have a juicer, a dehydrator, and all the tools needed, but it has been somewhat hard to implement. I like your empty food comparison, it totally makes sense. I am going to try surrounding my sessions with fruits, and lots of them so I can have that sweet satisfaction and fill my brain, not my stomach. :) thanks for putting it into perspective for me

Also, I am going on a Master Cleanse soon for 16 days as a trial detox with no solid foods (juices, salt water flushes, special lemonade, laxative tea is it), and I am hoping this will bring me clarity for my mind and body to help.

i buy hard candies/cough drops to combat the munchies.

when i get hungry i pop one in and it satisfies my craving. Having a water in places of a snack is helpful health wise also.

It does overcome my pre-emptive strikes smoetimes though. I like to only do it when im alone though. I dont like whipping up vaked meals with people home. its just not the same.

Preparing a pot of tea for the vaping sessions helps.
I find that alot of it is the power of suggestion. Once I start entertaining thoughts of food items, suddenly hunger will arise where the original thought was merely an intellectual consideration - "hmm.. i wonder how those almonds would taste right about now. Am I hungry? Not really... well I don't know. I won't know how hungry I am until I start eating... yeah these are good. Raisins would be a good counter balance; I know I have some. What's missing is yogurt, remember you bought vanilla/banana yogurt at Trader's Joe's - get that and mix it all together....I should finish it, I'll be satisfied then....."

It simply starts off as a thought. Maybe the answer is riding out the thought which gives rise to the impulse.

Again, if I have tea to sip on that sort of takes care of the mechanical aspect of wanting to imbibe.

Forgot to mention that at least theoretically if you drink Calea zacatechichi (dream herb) tea you'll be wide asleep before you have a chance to pig out.

i get the munchies but not all the time, only when i haven't already eaten that day.

I agree hot tea really works well. If you do have to munch at least try to munch on some healthy stuff like almonds, fruit or some organic peanut butter on organic whole grain bread. As long as its healthy and not too salty or sweet you should be ok, i mean you cant eat tons but in moderation a small snack of decent food is probably more beneficial than not

Man ever since I got my UD i have had the munchies hardcore! It seems like back when I was combusting I was having alot less cravings for carbs/sweets. Back in the day I was a skinny ass I used to take a bunch of paper tabs and never ate very much.

Certain areas of the brain are activated when we percieve sensation. Taste (salt, sweet, fats mainly) is a very strong/enjoyable sensation. Fact is our brains get wired to the stimulation (we develop newneuropathways). I once read that fatty tasting foods can cause opiate like addictions and I think I have experienced the effect myself.

hmmm..... I see this as a potential opportunity. Considering that when you have the munchies whatever it is that you're eating becomes the best thing ever, I'm thinking that if I have edibles that are extremely healthy and not fattening - such as alfalfa sprouts - off the top of my head for example, or celery stalks with maybe a dash of sea salt, the munchies could actually be a great and a good thing. It seems that it's a matter of putting your attention on food items that you know are very good for you, rather than thinking about pizza, etc.

I feel if you are having issues with wanting to go to fatty gross foods while high you should be looking to cleanse the system with a Juice fast or Master Cleanse type program.

I did a Master Cleanse for 5 days no food and it made me re-appreciate my body and the food I put into it. After the cleanse you automatically want to eat good foods because you know your body wouldn't like gross foods after you are ridding it of toxins.

Also now instead of going out to jack in the box or some other crazyy fast food place to get dessert I make my own raw food pies and cakes. Made a raw apple pie and cheesecake that was delicious. If you want recipe pm me, it is delicious and satisfies you instead of filling the void with empty wasteful simple carbohydrates.
