Is Smoking better than vaping for sleeping?

God

Member
Got my vape today but before I stain it with marijuana and can never return it, I would like to know if a bowl out of my bong will make me sleep more than this Buddha. So far a bong knocks me out good, but I heard one night that I was near unconsciously high that a vape was better and bought one like a jackass. Any insight from fellow insomniacs?

I would say smoking is better if you have full out insomnia but with high temps and a waterpipe I think the vape can get you just as sleepy, it certainly gets you more lazy.

So should I even use it? Once I use it I'm stuck with it. Should I just stick to my bong and combustion (gasp)?

The smoker I drink, the player I get.

Personally sleep quite well with vaporizing. I'm quite an insomniac - 4 hours per night is a banner week for me.

However, I've tried and returned vaporizers before - I didn't see what kind you are thinking of using? Most clean up quite well.

I'm thinking of sending this one back (i bought it on ebay) and going back to my bong. But that just made me want to use it, which I will later.

I don't have insomnia but vaping, especially indica, can put me to sleep pretty well. a good sativa can also make me completely forget about sleeping. but if I really can't sleep I smoke some ABV(tonight I can't sleep, already tried smoking some ABV but didn't work so I turned the tv on again, vaped some hash too, hoping I will eventualy get sleepy with time)

Dear God,

I vape at night, every night for insomnia. The only thing that I avoid are some sativa strains that actually keep my mind racing and hinders sleep. So nighttime it is stricly indicas for me. I also crank up the temp for my last few hits before bedtime.

Vaping gave me normal sleep patterns again and I'll never go back to combusting as a sleep aid. But you're God, so you already knew that, right?

Give it a shot, I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.

:peace:

I am the Vapor King--I can do anything
I'm exploring this conundrum as i speak. Recently, I've been getting shit sleep. I blame it mostly on stress from school, and having to wake up at a set time.

However, I thought that vapor may have been causing this, so i decided to take a T-break for a couple of days to see how i sleep.

So far my sleep hasn't really improved. I have been having weird fucking dreams though (so that's kinda a good sign). I mean weird.

I'll report back with my findings, God.

I just eat a bit of ABV about an hr before bedtime that helps knock me out. Never smoked it tho I don't like the taste of combustion since I got my ssv :2c:

lol I was shocked when nobody had taken this name so I had to.

I vaped about 2 hours ago, and besides loving it, I think I've been occupied for the part I should've been sleeping but I for sure could've sleeped.

Pharmacologically we would call this withdrawal. You are experiencing REM rebound. Very common after abruptly stopping administration of a chronically used drug, specifically cannabis. A colleague of mine has been doing these studies for years. Alans a great guy with no agenda

In addition, cannabis withdrawal will most likely be included in the new DSM revision (up to #5 now:rolleyes: ).

Us medical people can't quite go on "t-breaks". It almost makes me laugh when people use that term. Almost.

^^ Bloody interesting read Treecityrnd.

@God. I have suffered for years with insomnia. It's related to other ailments but it still equates to the same thing - no sleep. I have been using mj to aide me in my sleep for 20 years. Even though I've been using mj, the last few years haven't been great for sleep averaging 4 hrs a night - and when I say average I mean some times I'm up for 48 hrs then crash for 5 then up again for 24 then crash for 6 - basically all over the place.

I was really apprehensive about switching to vaping for the same reasons as you. But IME it has been a great help and my sleep is better then ever. It did take about 2 or 3 weeks for me to adjust fully, but once I had I can honestly say that I will never combust again.

The way I deal with it is to hit lower temperatures and milder herb in the daytime, just enough to ease my legs. Then in the evening I switch to a stronger strain and higher temps - pushing it all the way to 235c just before bed. I pretty much only smoke Indica's or Indica dominant strains.

I found quite an important factor for me in medicating with mj was tolerance build up. As most of us are aware, tolerance to a particular strain can be annoying as your consumption can increase quite rapidly if restricted to one strain. I find having at least 2 different strains is necessary to combat tolerence build up.

So far it's been about 4/5 months and my sleep is still going well. I have my bad days but they are definitely fewer and further between then before. This is just my experience and is not evidence of anything except my happier state of mind :D

DBV is capable of combustion. You should be able to get as hot/dark hits as any other vaporizer because of that. I'd say keep it. I could definitely get those knock out hits from the DBV when I had it.

Non medical state here, but I still consider myself a medical user in the end once I make that disclaimer. Why is it that you lump all medical users into that statement? Some of us have other medications we can use to take a short break, but perhaps are not the best long term solution, which is why we use cannabis. Other medical users have conditions that do allow them to take a day off here and there while managing their symptoms in other ways. Myself I rarely ever take a day off, but it is possible for me, and I'm sure there are many other medical users who do happen to take t-breaks. I actually know of one myself.

Out to lunch
I took a smoke hit right before bed every night for years, and found that I frequently woke up after a few hours. Another hit would help get me back to sleep, but the hangover high the next day was something I didn't appreciate. I sleep much better since I quit smoking. That was about 6 yrs. ago.

Like with using alcohol, getting to sleep and staying asleep can be two different things.

I also sleep better since completely quiting smoking and just vaping.Really your entire body will be able to function better without that smoke, tar and all the carcinogens included. It does take some time to unhook yourself and wean off of the smoke and get used to vaping.

If you continue to smoke between vape sessions, you will make it take longer to convert. It may take a couple weeks but its well worth it as you have heard in this thread :)

Of course(i know this was said already), stay off the strong strains with a head high late at night that will keep you up. Indica strains and just strains with a good body high/stone(these can sometimes be sativa dominant strains!)

What kind of bong do you have? Because most vaporizers, including the DBV you have, can easily be hooked up to a GonG water pipe(although a smaller tube or bubbler would work a lot better then a large double chamber piece). Vapor bonging, as we call it, is amazing! Do not feel like you must abandon glass and bongs, plenty of use use glass pieces in combination with vaporizers. just look here at the glass subforum http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewforum.php?id=25

You are correct dark. I rarely have the opportunity to work with individuals who are not on a steady-state dosing schedule so sometimes I neglect the lucky ones who have alternatives that still work or don't need medications everyday. Thank's for the reality check. Sometime you just get so involved with the trees you forget about the forest.

I would say smoke gives more burnout than vapor so yes it may be better for sleep. I use weed to get to sleep too though and vapor totally does the trick still :)

I used my vape last night to fall asleep. High temps are your friend, they'll do you real swell.

I smoke or vape like an hour before bedtime if I want to be asleep right when I hit the pillow.

The vapor has a nice gentle come down. with smoke you basically crash. Its part of what makes the smoke itself addicting(not to even mention all the toxins *combustion by products* thats mainly causing it), because you feel like you need to smoke again sooner to relieve the effects of coming down from your last smoke. Even a decent while into my vaporizing career I was still smoking very rarely but still smoking nonetheless, I would throw a whole day (or at times two or 3 )to smoke because i kept needing to smoke after the effect had worn off and i was left feeling very burnt out. in that way its hard to stop smoking. The longer you go with only vapor and no smoke at all the better type of effect you can achieve. :)

A nice sleep inducing combo with the side benefit of heightened dream movies is sipping on a tea made of dream herb (Calea zacatechichi) with vapor.
Some report that the taste is unpleasant; I find it quite palatable with a bit of stevia sweetener.
A quality source is
http://www.arenaethnobotanicals.com/dream-herb-calea-zacatechichi-c-49.html

Some people transition from smoking to vaping almost fully and others don't. Personally I find smoking ridiculous (very wasteful and probably harmful) by comparison.
Smoking hits you almost immediately; whereas with vapor it could take ten minutes or so, and the head is a little more refined and cleaner.
Have fun with your new toy, God.

Vaping at higher temps is the key to unlocking a more sleep inducing hit.
Another factor is how good your vape is at get a thick milky hit. Some like the SSV are much better at it than others.

Connecting your vape to a bong, bubbler, or other inline cooling device is also helpful, as it will let you take a bigger hit at higher temps without causing your lungs to spasm.

When I really want to get to sleep, I'll mix some strong indica flower with some indica hash or oil and then vape/bong that at around 220-230c.

For me vape bonging at higher temps is a more effective sleep aid than bong hits.

I agree certainly keep the vape and get some good glass for it!
