ABV Vegetable Glycerin Tincture

hey FC,

so i've been collecting up my abv for a while and have been planning on making a Vegetable Glycerin(VG) Tincture with it. i've been doing some research around FC, grasscity, and the rest of the internet. i figured i would start a topic on here about since there isn't much discussion about VG, especially the method i have decided to do. i wanted to first post up my general concept/method for any critiques anyone may have and then return to edit my OP to include my procedure. please do not hesitate to make suggestions or point out any flaws, i would rather not see my abv go to waste :p

the plan:
i have accumulated approx. 19.5grams of dark brown ABV from my MFLB but there are noticeable green specks throughout(ill try to post a picture of it when i come back to edit). i also plan on using the keif i have collected which i haven't weighed out but would not consider it a large amount, ill be sure to try to take a picture of it once i post my procedure. i want to use 4 fl. oz. of vegetable glycerin, equal to half a cup. i first plan on heating up the VG and bath my MFLB stem as well as the glass part of the WPA to extract resin(my stem is ridiculously resined). now for the part that i am looking for feedback the most because i am basically using a NO HEAT technique. this "no heat" technique has not been discussed much and will be implemented because this whole process needs to be as discrete as possible. after the stem and WPA glass bath, the 4. fl. oz. of VG will be added to a mason jar along with 19.5g of ABV and my keif(after decarboxylation). I plan on letting this mixture sit in a warm dark place for a week and shaking the jar 3 times a day. i was considering letting it sit in a hot water bath a few times throughout the week to aid in the extraction process, basically the only heat that would be used. after the week it up, the VG mixture will be strained through a cheese cloth and bottled. After bottling i will test a sample dose as a baseline measure and allow it to sit while bottled in a warm dark place for 2-3 weeks. this has been shown to increase potency, according to BadKittySmiles.

after calculations, 3mL's of this tincture would be equivalent to ~0.455g's of ABV. note, this potency does not include the supplementation of decarboxylated keif(which i haven't done before so hopefully my first attempt won't be a complete fail).

when i come back to edit this i will definitely make it much more organized, detailed, include reasoning for certain steps, try to include pictures, and also tips i have gathered from researching over the past few months.

so, will it work? any thoughts or suggestions?

I've always been told you should keep cannabis glycerin tinctures under your tongue for at least like 20-30 seconds before swallowing, and an ABV tincture might be too gross to do that.

Be sure to add honey to the tincture though, the glycerin goes down a LOT smoother that way.

Yes, it will work, but strictly speaking the heat/hot water bath is not needed. I make all my herbal glycerites (glycerin tinctures) with time, up to three months or so in a cool dark place, agitating the container periodically so all the goodness transfers to the glycerin. Glycerin is thick so I suggest you not use the cheesecloth (which will let stuff thru and once you begin squeezing hard it could burst) and use an old very clean tee shirt or some other porous sturdy cloth to filter. Wet the cloth with some plain glycerin before you strain so you don't lose too much of the tincture to the cloth. As far as dosage, remember that just under 1T (>15 mil) of glycerin is a fabulous laxative. You don't want to be taking tablespoons of it at a time - well, at least I don't, but if you are into that type of thing...but I digress...As far as improving taste (it will probably be pretty nasty) you could try adding some dried peppermint (which tinctures quite well on it's own) to the abv and tincturing the whole lot. Honey can be added before or after the process, it has some extraction power, but not as much as glycerin.

good luck with it - let us know how it ends up!

hmm im beginning to second guess making the ABV tincture because i am worried it'll taste too bad for it to be enjoyable. maybe ill just go with making cannaoil for brownies. its too bad since ive been looking forward to making this VG tincture but seems like it might not be worth it due to the ABV, especially since my ABV is a little dark and would probably taste worse than normal brown ABV.

What are the possible methods of consumption with glycerine tincture?

Obviously sublingually, but I think I've heard of people dripping it on top of a bowl and smoking it, so maybe you can vape it as well? I'm not sure

if what photokographer said is true i might go back to the VG tincture idea lol. dripping a couple drops into a trench with the MFLB seems like it'd be pretty nice and i wouldn't have to worry so much about taste.

I would worry about acrolein being produced vaping VG in a LB. VG should only be vaped at very low temps, and the MFLB can't safely offer that level control IMO.

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
From memory (sorry, don't have my reference anymore)......... VG heated below 250 C was considered safe, where at 280 C and above created acrolein.

ohh alright, thanks for the warning guys. looks like ill be dumping this VG tincture idea and going with the classic cannaoil.

i have vaped glycerin tincture in a launch box; i don't recommend it. the screen still gets hot enough to burn it, it does produce acrolein, it tastes horrible and then you have to clean the box. other vaporizers will vape it just fine though. i always add a few drops of tincture when i pack my DBV wand and it would work as well in any other whip vape.

VG Tincture can be vaped in an Iolite using either organic cotton or herbal material to hold the tincture. Honestly... I'd prefer to just do a spoonful orally. It is like weed flavored honey - really sweet = YES but not nearly as nasty as a shot of green or golden dragon.

I regularly make VG tincture and some prefer it over the hard candies even. It is a good use of ABV IMHO as it is pretty darn easy to make.

I use enough VG to be sure the ABV is completely covered with a tad extra on top to make stirring easily.
