The HI

If this vape has all the heat retention necessary for repeated bong rips, I don't see what all the hype is about for the fancy shmancy temperature regulation of the Cloud. All glass airpath is neat, but not practical for me.

You were probably just saying this in passing, but since I mentioned it being like a mini-cloud earlier, I'll comment.

First off, I wish I had the glass collection to test it like that! I actually have been glass shopping just because I have the HI...which is one nice thing about the cloud...it already comes with the perfect glass for it. Unfortunately, while my PD worked with the cloud's HT, the HI does not since you have to hold the HI upright or level due to its bowl design. So while I think it is like a mini-cloud in respect to its airflow and its ability to get me 'there' on one bowl, the cloud has sold me on the taste of all glass. While I know the cloud will go all day long with bong rips, I don't know that about the HI...yet!

I wholeheartedly recommend both vapes.

stickstones - I wholeheartedly intend to purchase both vapes as soon as they're ready for purchase. ;) I'm very jealous of your vapery.

I've had more opportunity to "practice" with the HI and have decided that using the fixed 12v adapter makes it just too darn hot. I combusted, even using my "marshmallow method." Also, since my HI has all the knots in it, it becomes very hot to hold. I will only be using it with the vv from now on. I think, for me, the cooler temps are the ticket.

The correct term would be 'envious'.

I must be in proofreading mode today.

Excellent decision. And they're both being shipped. You just need to need to get on the list for both, and payment is not needed until shipment time.

That's my plan too. A variable temp log vape will be NICE.

Thanks, max, for the correction :D

And I've already jumped on both waiting lists--did so shortly after becoming a member. I've got VAS, and I've got it bad!

I haven't been willing to try the HI with the dial turned very close to the full way at all. Way too hot for me, I've had it turned considerably back and it is still quite warm. In my opinion (and with my preferences) this vape would be almost unusable without the variable voltage power supply. :2c:

Even at the operating temperature I prefer the HI's "shell" is quite hot to handle.

Somewhere in there is the right voltage for the sweet spot. Maybe 10 or 11 volts? I don't know.

can i stick my male joint in there?
i did do a break down of the voltages on page 19 just in case you guys missed it. my sweet spot is actually around 11.5 -12v :/

Ok folks asking those who know and have a HI and a TT or CRZ.

Would the tubes from a TT and CRZ fit the HI?

And the new tubes alan made with the SS sliders, and glass tips, they mount to the HI externally as opposed to internally like the TT and CRZ?

Can't comment on whether the TT or CRZ tubeswill fit the HI since I don't own one... yet!:D

But the all glass turbo tube fits around the heat port and the SS tips slide inside the port.

They "fit" but are very loose. This is not a bad thing since you want to toast the tube full slowly rather than just inserting the stem in like you can with the TT and CRZ. I prefer the tubes that come with the HI, however.

EyeFonez and momofthegoons Ty for the needed info.

While I wait to see what Alan creates for me, I am trying to figure out how I shall use the HI with my glass.

seems like I will need to adapt new tips to my 18mm gong piece I got from Alan a few monts back for use with my Zob Bubbler.

These are the Pieces

Edit: for pic reference

PurpleDazed, I wonder if you could just switch out the ss tip. Shoot Alan an email and see what he says.

staticsunn - Hopefully your HI will arrive tomorrow so you can start enjoying it.

stickstones - I was afraid the HT might be problematic with the HI. May need to pick up a nice piece of glass with a 14mm gong.

mom - Sorry to hear your burned your marshmallow. It is a hot fire. Your unit demonstrates how well wood can be a conductor of heat. The sides are not nearly as hot as the end grain.

hereatlast - Your pine unit also demonstrates the heat conduction of wood. It is only hot on the sides with the end grain. Units with side grain run much cooler on the outside.

PurpleDazed - The center tube of the HI is identical to the center tube of the TT. There might be some tolerance variations. If the roasting tube has a 5/16" OD, it will fit into the HI. The turbo tube will also work on the TT. It just snaps onto the end of the center tube and you need to hold it there. I was making the turbo tubes before I created the HI. The glass turbo tube does not work so well with the TT.

Thanks for the ss slide tip pic ilovebOObs. I was just making some more stainless steel tip pieces tonight. Seems like I'm always running out of them.

the HI does not since you have to hold the HI upright or level due to its bowl design.

This is important to me, does this mean that i can't use a straight tube or a beaker with an angled downstem conecting to the Hi? It has to be a piece where the bowl+diffuser is upright?

i think he was referring to direct draws. angled down stem won't be a problem. here is alan video
where he uses a beaker style bong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o6jtKyzWA4

Nice pics :) I still can't get over how small this thing is!!! How can such a small innocent thing like that be producing such mammoth clouds....Oh, wait a sec, I remember now - Alan re-inventor extraordinaire got his mitts on it! ;)

Got you on the list for sure EyeFonez. I'm eager to get more made.

Glad it arrived safely staticsunn. Nice photos. For loading the stainless steel tube, the tip stays installed and you just draw it in like a straw. Blow out the abv when it is done. It should only come apart for cleaning or screen maintenance.

Thanks for clearing up the glass usage ilovebOObs. That is one of the great things about the HI. It can be used on most traditional glassware with a 14mm gong. There are several tube options available for the gong.

Thanks J.R.R.Tokin'. I do enjoy creating things.
