The HI

Thanks Jeppy, I described the three ways that i use the HI the most. I am really enjoying it.

I will definately re-read it several times, Gonzo. You see the hard thing for me, is that I have never owned this type of vape, as you probably already know. Is there anything that you think someone should make sure they order, when they purchase this vape? I just want to make one sweep through, nice and clean. Gotta keep Alan's workshop moving at a smooth pace. ;)

Thanks Gonzo, your review helps us understand where the HI fits into the scheme of things.

Awesome little review Gonzo, thanks a lot!

Nice to see the 3 different hot logs from this moment lined up together too, never thought the UD would be the largest of the bunch though.

I was already in line for a HI, but now I'm even more exited :D

Alan is exactly right, the roasting tube is a big deal. Hang tight guys, I've been waiting for a couple months now and Alan's a perfectionist I suspect, who wants to get the tubes right. I thought of getting another heat gun since my old one broke, but I'm not sure if these are safe as they really aren't made to inhale and could have lead and ion issues. I'm choking to death on smoking though...arrrrg...lol.

Thanks Gonzo! great review that really addressed a lot of my questions. I should have mine in hand this week and will compare similarly to my PD experience, as that is the only log I have.

@Jeppy - I think you will really enjoy this as your first vape. As far as ordering I would think that a standard 10mm and a all glass 14mm gong attachment are two must have. A few extra silicone sleeves would be a good idea as well. I buy my silicone tubing in 3' lengths so I can cut my own stems and sleeves.

@Hazy - No problem man.

@OTA - I think the size of the HI will be pretty standard whereas the size of the UberTwig and CRZ LOG will vary a bit.

@stickstones - I think you will really enjoy it. I never tried a PD but did own a WDZ which I gather was similar to the PD. I have to say the HI is quite different to my WDZ.

I'm new here, but I'm very excited to get an HI from Alan (got on the list last week). All these comments, and my interactions with Alan, reinforce that my wait will be worth it.

Great comparison Gonzo! It's nice to get an opinion from someone who owns all three!

Thanks for the review Gonzo. It is nice to see them all side by side. Glad you are getting it dialed in. The type of herb being roasted will also have an impact on the sweet spot temperature. It can change depending upon what you are roasting.

Thanks for the kind words Vito. I'm just trying to make the best system possible. Discovering some interesting things along the way.

Back to the shop now for some glass and steel work.

I dont know why
(perhaps the roasted herb I just finished)
I picture Alan's shop looking like Dr.Frankensteins lab with tesla coils sparking all over and an Igor saying "Yesss Massster"

Ok

Well keep up the good work Dude.

Good review from a staff viewpoint too Gonzo. It was about the HI, and comments on the other two were pretty much 'just the facts ma'am'. A free for all 'A vs. B, etc.' comparison, in a separate thread, would be a whole different story, and end up duplicating info (and robbing it as well) and attracting endless questions from vapor newbies. We don't like the 'what vape should I buy?' threads in Ask FC, but at least we can close them in a short period of time. Until and if we open up a review section (which would be rigidly controlled), this is where a comparison review should be posted, and how it should be done.

I'm sure the pics will be appreciated too. All these vapes can vary in size a little, but they're all easy to handle, and if a little bigger or smaller is desired, then that can be done with all. The choices in looks, size, and temp are much better than just a year ago.

Alan's selection of tubes has given us the ability to change up the hits, even with a fixed voltage. Kudos Alan. :science:

That is very funny. My friends call me a "mad scientist". I don't know why either. I'm rarely mad. I do need an Igor though. Or is that Eyegor.

You are welcome max. Flexibility is what the tubes are all about.

max - your description of the tube versatility has my mouth watering. Thanks, Alan! Can't wait to see what you come up with for me.

Vapinghole,
Full review forthcoming, but one quick note:

I'm loving how I can extract so much out of my herb with my HI. I usually start w/ a medium-high temp, brown most of the bowl in one big blast, then raise temp a little and get 3-4 more big clouds out of it (w/ no kief on the bowl). Then, let the herb sit in the SS tip for a while (out of the heat port, of course), return later, and get another 2-3 decent clouds. That's with the bowl about 1/2 - 2/3rds of the way full, by the way.

Edit: Oh, and I just found that a new headshop opened up in my area recently, so I may be picking up a piece of glass in the very near future. Might wait to post a full review until then. For those in suspense, my conclusions are basically the same as Gonzo's so far.

So OKcomputer, Gonzo, how much herb would you say you're using per bowl? Do you notice yourself saving any more vs. any other vapes? I always try to be efficient as possible, and from what I've read in the thread everyone seems to not be using a ton of material, but since you guys are doing mad science :ko: for review purposes, I'd like to hear from you two. Of course, if anyone else has a HI, feel free to chime in as well.

From what you've said OKcomputer, it seems like the HI is quite efficient.

Just wondering is there an 18mm SS glass turbo tube for a water pipe? or do they only come in 14mm?

EyeFonez,

ilovebOObs

can i stick my male joint in there?
there is only 14mm that i know of but you can get a 18mm to 14mm adapter and your good to go. thats what i'm doing since all my glass is 18mm.

Here is what I have made so far for 18mm gong to turbo tube. It is a short 2-piece glass turbo tube stuck into an 18mm gong fitting. Wish I could figure out a way to make it all one piece of glass.

Hey Alan, I responded to the Email you set me earlier.

@staticsunn The HI can be just as efficient as any other log vape because of the ability to use such a small amount. My typical load is .05 - .10 grams depending on the size hits I want to take. I find the stainless steel tip stem to be the most efficient but also the most restricted air flow.

Longer vape times with the SS tip? Where are you keeping the heat?

Jeppy,
don't get the SS tips unless you use cotton oil, the glass bowls spread out the material more evenly over a larger surface area so it is a different monster in general. These glass stems are truly mind blowing, and a result of Alan's two years of trial and error. Its safe to say the hardest hitting vape on the market; very dissapointed that I didn't purchase a Tower Tower last year, and ventured into this territory. Alan you should however make the lips that hold the screen a little differently; not really sure how though

Alan thank you for the the extension cord; now I know I well never have to worry about not having power :D That was extremely generous of you my friend.

Be patient with the man since I'm sure he is business as all hell.
