Sorry for your loss Tom.

Kali is adorable! Happy for you and Pammy.

Juice, I hold my PD upside down like a popsicle. The vapor tube and bowl is rigid enough to carry the weight of the PD. I'm too neurotic/OCD to let a single herb fall down thru the heat exchanger.

Thanks Kalinga and everybody.

We continue to get requests for Tube Holders. And since they go well with the Billy-Bowls and are made by the same folks... why not?

Pammy stopped to see her friends and brought these home today.

Nice tube holders!

Tom, you might wanna update the tube holder page. There are duplicates on the linear walnuts listed.

Those are very cool!

How many tubes can be comfortably fit into one holder, and are the inner diameters roughly the same on both versions?

Holder inside diameter is 1.5 inches or 4 cm. The two styles are the same ID and depth. They hold 5 standard tubes easy and will not hold a 6th.

This is a Tulip design Walnut holder. Nice work by this local fellow.

Wood vapor tubes are still a couple months off, but the only thing handy right this moment. Hard to see but there are 2 un-worked vapor tubes in the rear to show the fit of 5.

Damn the tube holder, billy bowl and a pd... Seems like they all go together so damn well! I need to start a wooden family ;)

Lo,

Out to lunch
I'm using a tube holder at work as a pen holder. Holds 10-12 or more, depending on how fat or skinny they are.

My condolences, Tom. We had to put our dog (Dee-O-Gee) down a couple of years ago. He went from all is well to very very sick almost overnight. Really surprised us. He was my wife's dog when we got together. I'm not much of a pet person but damn if I didn't cry for hours. That caught me by surprise too. So, best wishes to you and yours at this time. And congrats on the new addition to your family.

OK so I've had the PD for about week now and I absolutely love it. Took it camping over the weekend - I noticed that it got nice and warm if I plugged it in when the car was running, but it didn't seem to reach the proper temp when the car was off...even after warming up for an hour or so. Anyone else have this experience? Or is that just that my car battery must be getting weak?

^^^ like the Violets. :)

Welcome to the family Sky King. Glad you are enjoying.

Voltage controls temperature. An alternator (car running) runs 13V + and a car battery in good condition and full charge should be about 12.8. The wall wart is rated at 12V.

Other factors like moving air (drafts in cars, both the heater and A/C) compensate for the higher voltage somewhat and can even lead to lower than optimal temps, but still likely to be in the low vapor zone. Compensate with slower draw speed if you are in cold or windy conditions.

An old weak battery? Probably wouldn't start the car... :2c:

Dee-O-Gee. :)

I don't understand: what stops the herbs from falling into the purple days unit itself? I'm somewhat certain some material has gone down in there- does it just collect up or is it coming up when I suck thru the straw or what? how's it go?
I'm careful with the first hit-- then it is 'glued' into place after that and I don't ever worry about anything falling in.

Its inevitable some WILL fall in, and so lately I find the easiest way to clear out the PD is to do a really powerful draw with an empty stem. You'll see how it works by finding stuff on the screen afterwards, which I blow back into the ABV bag.

So just finished a 16 hour drive this morning. Would not have been able to do it without the PD. I will miss the hotter temperature from the car adapter though.

Just use a koozie :D I have to admit I do like it, but it will only be put on occasionally.

Yeah I've been meaning to get one. Do you just cut a hole in it so you can plug it in?

last night was the first night I left the PD unplugged since I got it (accidentally) I freaked out when I grabbed it and it was totally not hot. That and the wood had shrunk enough from cooling that the unit rattled. Scared the crap out of me, thought it had died overnight. turns out I didnt plug the wire all the way into the unit, so it sat out in the AC all night. currently warming back up now as we speak.

should i butter up the inner lip a bit to protect it maybe?

and by anyones experience does the walnut PD make thinner hits than the cherry or such? i either one hit it or its not enough and its a strain to one hit, but im learning still maybe (few weeks in)

no need too butter the inner lip. Tom has mentioned if you do and get some butter on the metal parts that it can taste kinda funky for a little while when you inhale it

and as far as getting a hit goes.... how much are you packing into the bowl? How secure are you placing your lips on the tube?

MrMistyTokes, the walnut unit has the same guts as the standard cherry. And the walnut wood is about the same density. So results should be the same. I switch back and forth from my cherry durability unit to a fancy walnut unit and see no difference (other than the looks and feel).

Several loading techs are mentioned here. The soda straw method seems to be a popular tech. Then give it a little tamp with the fingertip. Letting the stem sit in the Heat Exchanger for 10 seconds before your draw seems to be a vapor booster. Leave the stem in for the second and later draws too. Of course you will get diminishing returns as the load is consumed.

Yes, keep the :buzz: away from the metal parts. :uhoh:
