Rate the song above you! (All Genres)

4/10 to be totally honest. Electronic dance/pop from what I assume to be the European continent. Does nothing for me.. You know what would be great here? A guitar.

Edit: guess I missed the point of this post - Derp. And there's no hatred in what I said, it's just not my thing - electronic, sequenced music is the death of performance.

charliedontsurf,
Whoa Charlie all the hate. Guess you're not a Ratatat fan to each their own.

You seemed to ignore the post above you (I'm guessing) and rated my song which was not how the thread is supposed to work. Listen to song posted last, rate based on how much you liked it, post a link to a song you enjoy!

As for you Turtles, 9/10 I fell in love with that song when I first heard it, thank you for sharing!

I'll start the thread up again with another song. ;)

Nujabes - Feather. It's hip hop so get over it. If you can't appreciate other music genres once in a while maybe you should expand your horizons. Don't get caught looking like this :uhoh: all the time.

9/10! Feather is one of my favourite ever Nujabes songs, absolutely love that piano sample - so beautiful.

Completely agree about expanding horizons too, there are very, very few musical genres that I don't listen to at least once in a while - mainly pop and the shite that gets played on the main radio stations here.

Anyway here's my song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZrrQoME56U

While musically it's not the most skilful, The Streets as a group did help to pioneer a new direction for UK HipHop with their first album.

Plus, as the lyrics will make clear, this song is about a message that I think many on this board will agree with rather than musicality!

There are a few spelling mistakes in this guy's writing of the lyrics, but it's still fine for the most part.

Was released when I was 13 years old, just starting out blazing frequently, and already by that age I could see the hypocrisy in the alcohol v cannabis debate.

"Oh, hello / My name's Tim and I'm a criminal / In the eyes of society, I need to be in jail / For the choice of herbs I inhale..."

wilf, as it relates to being a song (musical) id rate it pretty low...its incredibly monotonous and i realize its likely on purpose as the message was meant to be strong but for me its hard to listen to due to the music itself. i also prefer to songs to have a more of a "singing voice" vs talking to music if there are voices at all. using the scale of 0-10 (no hate, just stating preference) id give it a 2. on the message itself, ya id rate it high.

fwiw, i do listen to lots of different styles of music and enjoy many of them however don't consider it hate or being narrow minded to not like or prefer certain styles...its not necessary to like everything although i can appreciate the expression of all. when im super vaped, i can listen to crickets and jam on. :D

I liked that, even though (or probably because) it was so Hendrix-like. 8/10.

Since we're reaching back, here's one of my all-time favourites. Not sure why this version has so much silence at the opening, but stick with it:

So before I posted I was beaten out. The first rating is for JD, the second is for biojuggernaut.

I liked that song, but I have to admit that Neil Young is one of my favorite artists so it is tough to beat him. I would give that 8/10. I liked the video as well. It helped me get into it a bit.

biojuggernaut:

I love the slow tempo on that song. Very smooth voice, and just classic sounds. I am not very familiar with this style of music. I would give it a 6/10 because to me there isn't a whole lot that stands out compared to other artists of this era. :2c:

Now time to mix thinks up. I just saw this artist in NYC a few weeks ago and its quite an experience live. His current music is quite different. Sufjan Stevens:

Sorry, Tom. The Police State of Canada can see that video, but in the People's Republic of America we sadly cannot. :|

Jeez guys, I'm sorry that I live in a country that is fast approaching the Dark Ages.

For people who don't have the bandwidth to go through multiple levels of encryption, well....there won't be any online Canadian privacy within a year.

And doubtless Harper will want an internet kill switch like seems probable in the UK.

"Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space" started off a a little slow for me, but was calming. It then built up to the point of a slightly monotonus, but quite enjoyable creshendo. I liked it for a first time listen, but can still only give it a 7/10.

Any Stevie Ray Vaughan/Buddy Guy fans want to click on this one for some Champagne and Reefer. If you get bored, just skip ahead to 18:30 into the song (but it would be better to start a session at the beginning of the song and listen to the whole thing  ).

10/10!!!!!!! It's serendipity that I got this song in the list. I've been really getting into blue-sy psychedelic rock lately, and SRV/BG know how to throw it down! WHY is the piano not an instrument featured in current rock music? There's nothing better than piano mixed with guitar.

Here's mine:

This song holds a very special place in my heart. I had a "religious" experience while listening to this song! I was transported to another dimension full of lights and love lol. Eddie Hazel must have been possessed by a transcendent consciousness that has traveled the vastness of the universe while playing this song.
